Pendas : Jurnah Ilmiah Pendidikan Dasar is a journal published twice a year, namely in June and December that aims to be a forum for scientific publications to pour ideas and studies complemented with the results of research related to primary school education. To achieve this, basic education journals will selectively disseminate ideas and studies complemented by quality research results related to basic education, develop an education center to the elementary-school that can produce innovative, creative and original work and tested in the field of education and learning elementary School to be disseminated and implemented for improving the quality of primary-to-national education at the national, regional and international levels.

This research aims to explore the strategy of character development, particularly akhlakul karimah, for adolescents in addressing the challenges of the Society 5.0 era at MAN 1 Lampung Timur. Society 5.0 is characterized by the integration of digital technologies into every aspect of life, which significantly affects youth behavior and values. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the character-building efforts at the institution are implemented through four main approaches: ta’lim (teaching), habituation, training, and mujahadah (spiritual struggle). Each approach is integrated into daily school life, aiming to instill Islamic values in both offline and online behavior. Despite challenges such as the negative influence of social media and a lack of digital ethics awareness among students, the school has demonstrated a strong commitment to embedding Islamic morality within the educational environment. The results show that this model of character development is relatively effective in forming religious, disciplined, and responsible students, equipping them with the necessary resilience to face the complex dynamics of the digital era.

Reading skills are an important basic skill to be mastered by elementary school students, especially at the low grade level. However, in practice, many students have difficulty understanding the content of reading due to the use of less attractive learning media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of digital picture story media based on Canva application on reading skills of grade II students of SD Negeri Sukaraja 1. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in the form of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of two grade II classes selected through purposive sampling technique, namely the experimental class of 27 students and the control class of 28 students. The experimental class was treated using Canva-based digital picture story media, while the control class used conventional media. The research instruments included reading skill tests and student interviews. The Mann-Whitney test results on pretest scores showed no significant difference between the experimental and control classes (p = 0.249 > 0.05), which means that the students' initial abilities were comparable. After the treatment, the Wilcoxon test showed a significant improvement in the experimental class, and the Mann-Whitney test on the posttest showed a significant difference between the two classes. The interview results also showed that students gave positive responses to the use of the media. Thus, the Canv-based digital picture story media.

High-order thinking skills (HOTS) are important skills that students must have to face the challenges of the 21st century. However, in reality, many elementary school students still have low HOTS skills, one of which is caused by the use of conventional learning media. This study aims to determine the effect of using learning videos on the high-order thinking skills of fourth-grade students on photosynthesis material. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study consisted of fourth-grade students in two elementary schools, namely fourth-grade Karanglayung as the control class (28 students) and fourth-grade SDN Gudang II as the experimental class (32 students). The instrument used was a high-order thinking ability test given before and after treatment. The results showed that the average pretest score of the control class was 46.71, while the experimental class was 56.91. After treatment, the average posttest score of the control class increased to 65.11, while the experimental class reached 82.50. Improvements in student abilities were seen in both groups, but the experimental class experienced a more significant increase, with an average n-gain score reaching 60% compared to 35% in the control class. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of learning videos has a positive effect on improving students' higher-order thinking skills in photosynthesis material.

Success in a learning process cannot be separated from the existence of adequate resources, one of which is the source of teaching materials. Of all the existing teaching materials, especially in elementary schools, not all teaching materials are able to synergize between teachers and students. Problems arise when the existing teaching material resources are not serialized properly and correctly. The objectives of this study include (1) theoretically reviewing the concept of RECE model social studies teaching materials (2) analyzing field needs related to appropriate teaching materials, (3) developing a draft concept of RECE model social studies teaching materials (4) validating the concept of RECE model social studies teaching materials based on social literacy and local wisdom (5) finalizing the product concept of RECE model social studies teaching materials based on social literacy and local wisdom (6) disseminating the concept of teaching materials. The research method that will be used in this study is the research and development method of the 4D Thiagarajan RnD model. The average percentage results from the material, language and media experts as a whole are 86.2% and can be categorized as a very feasible product, which means the RECE teaching model is suitable for use. Then in the one to one trial, the final recapitulation of the average value was 83% and was categorized as valid, then in the small group test with an average result of 86% and was categorized as very valid and finally the field test with an average result of 90.3% with a very valid category and suitable for use without the need for revision. It can be concluded that the product developed in the form of RECE model teaching materials is a very feasible product and can be used as teaching materials in social studies subjects in elementary schools.

This study aims to determine the effect of the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model on communicative empathy in the learning of fifth-grade elementary school students in Sunter Jaya Village. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample used in this study consisted of two classes selected using the simple random sampling technique, namely class VC as the experimental class and class VB as the control class. The data collection technique used was a Likert scale questionnaire with four indicators of communicative empathy: the ability to convey ideas effectively, the ability to listen actively, the ability to convey information clearly, and the use of polite and effective language. Based on the results of the Independent Sample T-Test hypothesis test, a significance value of < 0.001 was obtained, which is less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be said that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. These findings indicate that the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model is more effective than the question answer model in improving students' communicative empathy. Therefore, the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model is recommended as an alternative social studies learning model that is not only academically oriented but also focuses on character building and social skills development.

This study aims to investigate the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by the Assemblr Edu media on the science literacy skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is based on the low level of students’ science literacy and the lack of variety and innovation in instructional media used by teachers. This research employs a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects were students from class VA as the experimental group and class VB as the control group at SDN Cikalongsari I, Karawang Regency, with 22 students in each class. The experimental class received instruction using the Discovery Learning model assisted by Assemblr Edu media, while the control class was taught using the Direct Instruction model. The instrument used was an essay test designed to measure students' science literacy skills based on three indicators: explaining scientific phenomena, designing and evaluating scientific investigations, and interpreting data and scientific evidence. The data analysis results showed that the influence of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Assemblr Edu on students’ science literacy skills reached 51%, and the N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.76 or 76%, which falls into the high interpretation category. In comparison, the control class using the Direct Instruction model scored 0.68 or 68%, categorized as moderate. These findings indicate a significant improvement in science literacy skills in the experimental class compared to the control class. Therefore, the use of the Discovery Learning model supported by Assemblr Edu media is proven to be effective in enhancing elementary school students’ science literacy skills.

One of the most important abilities that students need to have is the ability to comprehend scientific ideas. “TIMSS results and a number of research, however, show that scientific idea understanding in Indonesia is still low. Using a video-assisted Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method in the classroom is one technique to deal with this problem. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how much elementary school students' comprehension of scientific topics is improved and affected when they use animated movies in conjunction with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach”. This study employs the quasi-experimental method and is quantitative in nature. The participants in this study were all fourth-grade elementary school children at SDN Karang Setia 01, with 26 kids in the experimental class and 26 students in the control class. Purposive sampling was used for the sample process. A science concept knowledge test and non-test tools in the form of student activities during the learning process were the instruments employed in this study. According to the study's findings, students who used the CTL technique with the help of N-Gain animated movies had a 0.30 increase in concept understanding, and the CTL strategy with the help of animated videos had a 30.9% impact on students' comprehension of science concepts. These findings suggest that the CTL method, with the use of animated movies, can be used to enhance elementary school pupils' comprehension of scientific concepts.

This study aims to examine the relationship between gender and learning motivation with critical thinking skills among fourth-grade students in Social Studies (IPS) at elementary schools in Pegadungan Urban Village. The background of this research is based on the importance of critical thinking as a 21st-century skill that students must possess, particularly in understanding and analyzing social phenomena discussed in Social Studies. This research employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The sample consisted of 106 students selected through disproportionate stratified random sampling from four public elementary schools in Pegadungan. The instruments used included an essay test to measure critical thinking skills and a learning motivation questionnaire developed based on Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. The results showed that gender and learning motivation simultaneously had a significant relationship with students’ critical thinking skills, with a multiple correlation coefficient (R) of 0.412 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.169. This indicates that 16.9% of the variance in critical thinking ability can be explained by the combination of gender and learning motivation. The F-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that the regression model is statistically significant. Partially, learning motivation had a significant relationship with critical thinking skills, while gender did not. These findings suggest that learning motivation plays a more dominant role in influencing students’ critical thinking skills compared to gender. This research implies that teachers and schools should place greater emphasis on enhancing students’ learning motivation to support the development of their critical thinking abilities.

Social skills are among the essential skills that need to be developed in social studies learning as they can foster responsibility, interaction-communication, cooperation, empathy-sympathy, self-control, and various other social aspects. However, the phenomenon observed indicates a still low level of social skills among elementary school students. The application of the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) learning model is identical to science-based learning, but its implementation in social studies learning represents a new innovation to enhance social skills. This underpins the conduct of research in this thesis. The purpose of this study is 1) to determine whether the increase in social skills of students using the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) learning model is better than that of students using the contextual learning model. 2) to find out the effect of using the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) model on the improvement of social skills of elementary school students. The method used in this research is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design on social studies learning material about the struggle of the Indonesian nation against colonialism and imperialism. The instrument used in the study was a social skills test. The results of the study from the n-gain score calculations showed that the experimental class had a score of 0.5320 and the control class also had a score of 0.3111. Furthermore, the results from the regression analysis indicated that the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) learning model had an influence of 36,4%. The conclusions obtained from this study are: 1) There is an improvement in social skills among elementary school students using the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) learning model compared to students using the contextual learning model; 2) There is an effect of the Predict Observe Explain ((POE)) learning model.

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum) in the subject of Pancasila Education for fourth-grade students at UPT SDN 22 Binamu. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of the school principal and subject teachers. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka has been carried out fairly well. This is evidenced by the adaptation of teaching materials and the application of contextual learning approaches. However, several obstacles were identified during its implementation, such as limited teacher understanding of the curriculum's concepts, lack of ongoing training, and inadequate supporting infrastructure. In general, teachers responded positively to the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka, as it provides flexibility in the design and execution of learning activities. Based on these findings, the study recommends continuous teacher training and improved educational facilities to support the successful implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka.
