Makna: Jurnal Kajian Komunikasi, Bahasa, dan Budaya is an open access scientific research journal published twice a year in March and September by Faculty of Communication, English Language and Literature of Universitas Islam "45" Bekasi. Makna: Jurnal Kajian Komunikasi, Bahasa, dan Budaya has been published since 2010. Makna: Jurnal Kajian Komunikasi, Bahasa, dan Budaya publishes original research articles which focused on communication studies, linguistics and cultural studies. Makna: Jurnal Kajian Komunikasi, Bahasa, dan Budaya is an open access journal. Makna: Jurnal Kajian Komunikasi, Bahasa, dan Budaya has a open peer review process where the identities of reviewers are known to the authors. Open peer review process provides transparency and recognition to every concerned party. Open peer review process also ensures the quality of published research articles.

<![CDATA[This study analyzes the news hegemony framing of the presidential election (Election) in 2014 in Daily Newspaper Suara Pembaruan, particularly in the main report rubric from May to July 2014. 2014 Presidential Election?s news is the most interesting news for the media and the public because it attracts the public?s interest. At the time of the election, almost all media present the news as headline including Suara Pembaruan. By using descriptive qualitative method with Zhongdan Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki?s framing analysis model, this research aims to find out how Suara Pembaruan framed 2014 presidential elections. The result shows that the news framing of 2014 presidential elections conducted by Suara Pembaruan mainly focused on Joko Widodo, the number 2 presidential candidate than the number 1 candidate, Prabowo]]>

<![CDATA[Participative Communication is an innovation system directed mainly applying bottom-up and participative communication approach of the society. Participative communication provide space for people to exchange information and knowledge . Application of the principle of participative communication is done through dialogue. The study aims to get descriptions on how participative communication can be applied on the various program in Indonesia. The study has been done using survey about variables descriptive analysis. In general, the concept of participative communication is a fresh concepts for development in Indonesia, but the implementation has not been work in accordance with the concept, with the result that the main purpose of development not successful. To increase partisipative communication process, facilitators should carry out more intensive approach and to involve those society who considered as leaders of the society group, i.e to active. <![CDATA[Translating of cultural words often face problems if it is not found the same cultural concept in target language so that it is not found the appropriate equivalence. The purpose of this research is to know the cultural categories in source language and the translating strategies used. This is the descriptive qualitative research about content analysis. Based on the analysis of data, it is found nineteen cultural words that is (1) material culture such as bicycle rickshaw, batik, trek, temple, coconut wine, and canting; (2) social culture such as elder, combatant, sultans; (3) art such as Ramayana, dalang, wayang kulit; and (4) ecology such as pandanas, and buffalo. There are two strategies used by translator, namely (1) there are twelve words which are translated using borrowing words; and (2) there are seven words which are translated using cultural equivalent or cultural substitution. The accuracy of cultural-word translation is very good, it is shown by successfulness to convey source language into target language meaning. Translator used more borrowing-word strategies than cultural equivalent because the nuance of source language culture is stronger. ]]>

<![CDATA[This study investigated the types and reasons for employing communication strategies in group discussion at the third year students of English Department of FKIP Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University joining psycholinguistics subject. It was descriptive qualitative research, observing the types and reasons of communication strategies. Field notes, video recording, and interview guide were used as the instruments to collect the data. The findings of the study show that the students employed twelve Dornyei's Classification of Communication Strategy (1995). The reasons for employing communication strategies employed are: to avoid talking about topic the subjects are not familiar with; to avoid being trap in some linguistic difficulties; to express the idea quickly and more easily; to spontaneously response to the flow of discussion; to emphasis what is expressed orally; to ask for incomprehensible vocabulary items and to confirm idea as well; to express the intended meaning; to fill in the gap while the speaker gains time thinking about what to say next; and to support the speech effectively when one strategy seems not to work well in overcoming the communication problem.]]>

<![CDATA[Bekasi regency, West Java, grew into the International Economic Zone (ZONI). The rapid pace of industry put Bekasi district as one of the largest industrial area in Southeast Asia. But about 25 percent of the total indigenous population in Bekasi still live in poverty. This is in contrast occurs between the native people living in an industrial area. The difference is what often led to conflict between the two communities.In connection with the above-mentioned problems, this study aims to (1) determine how the role of corporate communications (corporate communication) conducted in the industrial park development company with local communities to keep the conflict from getting stronger. (2) To analyze the pattern or model of communication by the company to maintain the social order remains conducive.This study was conducted on two industrial zones in Bekasi, PT Jababeka, and PT Lippo Cikarang. Both companies were selected as research subjects because during active communication with the local communities that surround industrial area.The results showed that both regional development company, PT Lippo Cikarang Tbk and PT Jababeka Tbk is still trying to establish a harmonious relationship with the surrounding community through a number of CSR programs. However, the activities carried out still largely charity, or have not been sustained. Yet local communities around the industrial area of sustainable want help to improve their lives]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi XI siswa Ilmu 'tentang instruksi Math guru di SMAN 10 Bekasi. Metode penelitian ini yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan survei. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: persepsi siswa XI Ilmu 'tentang instruksi Math guru adalah positif dalam faktor situasional, berarti Ha diterima dan H0 ditolak. <![CDATA[Penelitian ini menganalisis pandangan koranThe Jakarta Postmengenai penerapan syariat Islam di Aceh. Mengacu kepadaUndang-Undang No. 11 tahun 2006, Pemerintah Aceh memiliki wewenang dan otonomi luas di bidang hukum Islam.Wewenang itu tidak hanya mengurusi masalah ibadah sepertiahwal syakhiyah(hokum keluarga dalam Islam), dan muamalah(hukum tentang perdagangan dan pernikahan)tetapi juga mengurusi hukum pidana (jinayat).Sehubungan dengan hukum pidana, Pemerintah Aceh mengeluarkan peraturan daerah yang dikenal sebagai perda syariah Islam untuk mengatur keamanan dan ketertiban di masyarakat. Perda ini mendapat penolakan dari sebagian warga Aceh terutama warga non muslim. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis pandangan koranThe Jakarta Postmengenai kasus ini. Data yang dianalisis adalah empat editorial koranThe Jakarta Post mengenai penerapan perda syariah Islam di Aceh. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori Analisis Wacana Kritis dari Teun A van Dijk terutama pada aspek tematik dan skematik. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, koranThe Jakarta Post menolak penerapan syariat Islam di Aceh. Hal itu dilakukan dengan membangun tema atau makna yang merujuk pada penolakan perda syariah dengan memanfaatkan elemen wacana yang meliputi pemanfaatan judul, pengembangan tema (tematik), dan pengembangan pola urutan (skematik)]]>
