Abstract

This research explores the representation of masculinity in TikTok content by the creator @Delvinyauu, focusing on the portrayal of characters from Studio Ghibli films. It investigates how these representations challenge traditional masculine stereotypes in Japanese culture, particularly through the lens of soft masculinity. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method combined with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, the study analyzes the denotative and connotative meanings behind fashion choices, body language, and character portrayals. Results indicate that the creator's content resonates with audiences, showcasing a softer, empathetic masculinity that diverges from conventional ideals. This shift promotes a more nuanced understanding of masculinity, encouraging emotional expression and individuality in contemporary society. The study concludes that TikTok serves as a platform for redefining masculine identity, as it reflects the evolving perceptions of gender roles among youth in Indonesia.

Abstract

Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 32 Year 2002 on Broadcasting was born after the political struggle in Indonesia. It gave birth to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to equalize the ownership of radio and television, thus creating a diversity of content. But now KPI's authority is weaker after the House of Representatives passed the UU Cipta Kerja. KPI's role is only like an NGO. Now the Broadcasting Law will be revised by the House of Representatives. The Program is in the form of broadcast content, who supervises it, what is the role of KPI after the Undang-undang Cipta Kerja. Instead of being an independent institution, KPI now seems to be a broadcasting Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This research uses a qualitative method. The research was conducted by interviewing KPI commissioners in various regions in Indonesia. The authority of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) as an independent body must remain firm and robust, standing as the leading regulator for broadcasting institutions, both radio and television, as well as for digital media content. For social justice in Indonesia, media ownership diversity must be regulated in the revised Broadcasting Law. Ensuring media ownership diversity across various regions and sectors is essential to prevent media ownership monopolies, which could result in only a few entities controlling television and radio broadcasting.

Abstract

The conflict in the Jammu-Kashmir region has become one of the longest-running conflicts in Indian history. The Jammu-Kashmir region is an area located between India and Pakistan. Since 1948, this conflict has had many impacts both domestically in India and Pakistan, and has involved other countries in mediation and conflict resolution efforts for Jammu-Kashmir. In addition to political involvement in mediation and resolution efforts, there is also the involvement of mass media as a communication and information tool for the parties involved. The Wire is one of the mass media outlets actively covering and writing news about the Jammu-Kashmir conflict in India. In the world of journalism itself, there is a new concept called Peace Journalism. The concept of peace journalism emphasizes the role of mass media as a third party in a conflict, or in other words, as a mediator for the parties involved or affected by the conflict. The Wire is a media outlet that consistently covers and writes news related to the Jammu-Kashmir Conflict. From this consistency, it is necessary to consider The Wire's role as a medium in conveying the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the responses of the Indian-Pakistani governments in media openness. This journal will discuss how The Wire carries out its role as a mass communication and information medium in the Jammu-Kashmir conflict through the perspective of Peace Journalism. To obtain descriptive results, the author uses a literature review method, utilizing literature sources such as books, scientific journals, and internet sites relevant to the topic discussed. From this method, it was found that The Wire is included in the media that uses the concept of peace journalism in its reporting related to the Jammu-Kashmir conflict. However, in using the concept of peace journalism, The Wire does not lose its critical stance towards Indian government policies related to the Jammu-Kashmir conflict. This research is expected to provide insights into the role of mass media in conflict through the perspective of peace journalism. Abstract

In the organization of the Hajj pilgrimage, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia consistently involves mass media. The Ministry recruits journalists from both mainstream media and Islamic community media to become part of the Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH). In the 2024 Hajj season, these journalists formed the Media Center Hajj (MCH), which serves as the government’s frontline in conducting public communication with pilgrims and the broader public. MCH content is published across various platforms, with a significant portion presented in the form of human interest features. These stories are evaluated daily by the Ministry’s Public Relations team, and underperformance may affect the media's future participation in Hajj coverage. In recent years, the Ministry has emphasized human interest stories, recognizing the numerous inspiring narratives among pilgrims that resonate strongly with the public and significantly shape perceptions of the Hajj pilgrimage. The objective of these communication efforts is to foster positive public perception and enhance satisfaction with the Hajj experience, despite its logistical complexity involving 241,000 pilgrims. This study explains how the Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the MCH, strategically employs human interest features as a key tool for public communication during the 2024 Hajj. The researchers, who participated directly as members of the MCH, conclude that this strategy was effective in positively influencing public perception and presenting the Hajj implementation as successful. Abstract

The rapid evolution of digital media has significantly transformed social, economic, and political landscapes, providing new forms of communication, empowerment, and control. This theoretical framework integrates the perspectives of Herbert Schiller, Manuel Castells, and Paul Virilio, focusing on three core concepts: power dynamics, technological acceleration, and inequalities in access and participation. Through an extensive literature review, this research critically examines key texts and scholarly debates surrounding the contributions of each theorist, aiming to develop a comprehensive understanding of digital media’s impact on society. The methodology combines rigorous textual analysis with collaborative academic discussions, ensuring a balanced evaluation of each theorist’s ideas while highlighting intersections and divergences. Schiller emphasizes the role of media in reinforcing capitalist interests, Castells highlights the empowering potential of digital networks, and Virilio explores the implications of speed in shaping public perception. By addressing both strengths and critiques, this framework offers a deeper insight into the dual role of digital media as a catalyst for social change and a mechanism of inequality. The findings contribute to ongoing discourse on the role of digital platforms in contemporary society, emphasizing their potential for democratization while also presenting risks of reinforcing existing power imbalances. This theoretical framework lays the foundation for empirical research and interdisciplinary exploration in media studies. Furthermore, it highlights the need for critical engagement with the evolving digital landscape, urging scholars to examine how digital media can both empower and marginalize, offering a nuanced understanding of its complex role in modern life. Abstract

Access to information is becoming so easy and cheap. But the effect, a flood or an information tsunami, can be disruptive, extending the pattern of thought to human behavior. So from that some experts offer a predictive strategy, dealing with the disaster. One of the public instruments that has an important role to play is the journalists. Journalists become information gatekeepers from the public to the public. Because of its crucial role in the circulation of information, in the conduct of the profession, journalists have guidelines set out in UU No. 40 tahun 1999 and the Kode Etik Jurnalistik (KEJ). Verification discipline becomes the essence of journalistic activity. Conducting a disciplinary verification, will greatly determine the quality, validity, and credibility of the information presented. Unfortunately, verification disciplinary practice is sometimes not fully carried out. Including journalists from the area. Using the Bill Kovach & Tom Rosenstiel disciplinary verification concepts outlined in the Kode Etik Jurnalistik (KEJ), as well as the Pedoman Pemberitaan Media Siber (PPMS) on this study will look at how the coverage process, the treatment of sources, up to the practice of the discipline verification of local print and cyber media journalists. Using methods of case study research and comparative studies can deepen and compare journalists of print and cyber media of the region namely Radar Tulungagung and Afederasi.com practise the discipline of verification. But not entirely practiced well, more specifically in treating the source. This is due to factors of online media development, corporate operations and leadership policies

Abstract

This study examines the communication model in Greta Thunberg’s environmental campaign on Instagram using Aristotle’s rhetorical approach: ethos, pathos, and logos. The research explores how Greta builds credibility as an activist (ethos), engages audience emotions to raise awareness (pathos), and strengthens her arguments with scientific data (logos). A library research content analysis of selected posts from @Gretathunberg identifies communication patterns in her digital campaign. Findings indicate that Greta effectively utilizes Instagram as a persuasive communication tool. Ethos is built through her global recognition as a young activist. Pathos is evident in emotional language, strong metaphors, and urgent calls to action, while logos is reinforced through scientific evidence and expert references. Instagram’s visual and interactive features enhance message dissemination, enabling audiences to actively engage, share content, and participate in discussions rather than being passive recipients. This study concludes that Aristotle’s rhetorical theory remains highly relevant in digital communication. Through a strategic combination of ethos, pathos, and logos, Greta Thunberg successfully mobilizes a global movement, raising public awareness and driving participation in climate action.
