Abstract

The tradition of reciting Surah al-Wāqi‘ah at night in Indonesian Islamic boarding schools reflects a deep desire to understand the Quran. However, the continuity of this practice requires a strong legal basis. This study examines the validity of hadith supporting this tradition using the Takhrīj al-Hadīth method. The main point is to ensure the credibility of the hadith chain and its textual content. The goal is to offer a more profound comprehension of the virtues of reciting Surah al-Wāqi‘ah and to evaluate the authenticity of this tradition. While this tradition holds significant educational value for students, it's crucial to strengthen its legal foundation. The research highlights that the hadith supporting this practice falls under the category of aḥād - gharīb due to its transmission through one narrator, 'Abdullah ibn Mas’ūd. However, the weakness lies in the weak ḍa‘īf (weak) status of its chain due to an unknown narrator’s reliability, Abū Ẓabyah. This study offers profound insights into religious practices and emphasizes the critical evaluation needed for traditional practices. Reciting Surah al-Wāqi‘ah remains valuable, yet understanding a strong legal basis is crucial to maintaining the authenticity of religious practices.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the position of women in the dynamics of modern tafsir study on Tafsir Al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir by Muhammad Tahir Ibn 'Ashur. Tafsir is a representative of modern tafsir that is widely used as literature to discuss contemporary issues. The research uses literature review with a qualitative approach and accompanied by discourse analysis. The results showed that the position of women in the Qur'an according to Ibn 'Assyria does not deny the difference with men, and this is aimed at aspects of their respective roles in the order of life. The difference as illustrated by the Qur'an is in the form of the difference between night and day, the existence of both of which becomes a unity of Allah's decrees and provisions or sunnatullah (created this universe is always paired with each other). The work of women in the public world is no longer a rare sight. The opening of fields and job opportunities that are no longer strict with gender criteria, progress in the field of education, poverty experienced by most families, are all factors that are very instrumental in increasing taking part in the public sphere. Interestingly, the success of women in carrying out their duties is not inferior to that of men, proving that success in the public sphere is not related to gender criteria.

The method used is literature with a historical analysis approach. The results are: (1) the history of Islamic and Christian relations is very harmonious and even a strong friendship. This lasted until the caliphate of Bani Umayyah and Bani Abbasiyah reached its golden peak; (2) the tension between Islam and Christianity began to heat up when the caliphate of Bani Abbasiyah experienced a decline in the Middle Ages. In addition to the polemical and apologetic nature of the debate between Islamic and Christian leaders due to the expansion of the Islamic caliphate and the strengthening of the internal cohesion of the Christian world that encouraged Islamic and Christian rivalry, a series of Crusades also took place. This polemic gave birth to debates in which each side attacked and proved the advantages and beauty of its own religion and showed the weaknesses and ugliness of other religions; (3) the main cause of conflict between Islam and Christianity is not because the core teachings of the religion itself are intolerant and exclusive, but more determined and conditioned by the historical-economic-political situation surrounding Muslim communities in various places. This is where the importance of dialog that prioritizes the principle of equality, and brotherhood that upholds tolerance between religious communities as shown by the Prophet Muhammad Saw.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal Raja Ali Haji's views on the impeachment of the head of state (the King) in a monarchical system. This idea indicates that he supported an accountable and non-absolute government. The analysis is conducted through socio-legal studies to offer a different perspective on Raja Ali Haji and his thoughts. Historical contexts and interpretations of Raja Ali Haji's literary works are used in this article to explore these ideas. The findings show that the concept of impeaching the King must be based on valid reasons and proper considerations. Even then, this impeachment should not be carried out immediately; it must go through a special institution, Ahl al-Hall wa al-Aqd. His caution in discussing the issue of impeachment demonstrates that it should not be the first solution but a last resort if other methods can no longer resolve the issues. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of moral responsibility in governing the state and administration.
