Abstract

This study aims to explore students' mathematical critical thinking skills based on belief at SMPN Satu Atap 1 Kabawo. This research is descriptive exploratory. The research subjects were students of class VIII for the 2020/2021 academic year. The instruments used in data collection were test of students’ critical thinking skills, questionnaires on students’ beliefs about mathematics, and interview guidelines. The data collected was then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the percentage of students' confidence of mathematics in the medium category was 61.12%, the percentage of students’ confidence of mathematics in the high category was 25%, and about 13.88% of students’ confidence of mathematics was in the low category. Students with high confidence showed a tendency to be able to solve critical thinking skills in the aspects of interpretation, analysis, and evaluation. Students with moderate confidence tend to be able to solve problems in the aspects of interpretation and evaluation, while students with low categories have not been able to solve problems in all aspects of critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop android-based mathematics learning media on polynomial material that is valid, practical, and effective for use in learning. This type of research is research and development by applying a 4-D development model which has stages consisting of: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The data collection instruments used were an expert validation questionnaire, practicality questionnaire, and pretest-posttest questions. The subjects of this study were students of class XII SMAN Gogol. The results show that the assessments of material experts and media experts obtained valid criteria. In the practical aspect, the learning media are stated to be very practical to use as a support for learning from the assessment of teachers and students. In the pretest-posttest results of students, the increase in learning outcomes is at the "medium" level seen from the n-gain test scores so the "Pintar Polinomial" learning media is declared to be effectively used in learning polynomial material. It can be concluded that the "Pintar Polinomial" learning media is feasible to use in learning because it has met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

Based on the interview with the mathematics teacher in grade 9 of Junior High School in Malang, learning media used in school was limited, especially in material of transformation. This cause the students have difficulty communicating mathematical ideas when solving the problems. The purpose of this study is to develop an e-module learning media in the form of a flipbook to improve students’ mathematical communication skills. Research and development of the media was carried out using the ADDIE model. The results of the validation test that carried out by the lecturers and teachers obtained a very valid category value. The results of the effectiveness test using the N-Gain value is 0.66 included in the medium improvement category, it means that mathematical communication skills increase after being given flipbook learning media. The results of the practicality test received a positive response with an average of 79%. Based on the results of the validation, effectiveness, and practicality tests, it can be concluded that the development of flipbook learning media is valid, effective, and practical to use in teaching and learning activities to improve students’ mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective teaching aid in learning mathematical logic material. The teaching aid developed is Logic Toll Board named PATOLOGI (Papan Tol Logika). The development model used in this study uses the ADDIE development model. The stages of ADDIE development include analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was obtained from observation and interviews, then analyzed descriptively. The results of the research that has been carried out indicate that the PATOLOGI teaching aids have been well developed, starting from the analysis stage to the evaluation stage. The tests carried out included testing the validity of teaching aids to experts, practicality tests and effectiveness tests through trial activities with students. The trial results show that students have no difficulty in using teaching aids, so that teaching aids are said to be practical. The trial results also show that the use of visual aids can arouse students' enthusiasm and interest in participating in learning activities, so that students more easily understand the concepts of mathematical logic material, especially compound statements. This shows that the PATOLOGI teaching aids can be categorized as effective. Thus, it is concluded that the PATOLOGI teaching aid is valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

TaKeru media was a digital and manual-based learning media that aimed to improve students' understanding of the subject matter of curved side spaces, especially tubes and cones. These study aimed to develop TaKeru media as an effective learning medium to be applied as research subjects to class IX junior high school students. This study used Research and Development (R and D) methods, and ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation) development procedures. The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive data analysis technique, which described the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the TaKeru media using t-test. The instrumens used in this study were media validation sheets, test sheets, and student response questionnaires for eight students. The results showed that 80% of the participants showed a positive response, and student learning outcomes also increased, indicated by the value of t count = 5.635> t table = 2.365, with a significance level of 5%. Based on the increase in learning outcomes and positive responses from students, TaKeru Media as a learning media based on mathematical literacy is valid, practical, and effectively applied to teach curved side spaces (tubes and cones).

Abstract

The results of the 2018 PISA test show that Indonesian students' math ability scores are ranked 7th from the bottom. This shows that the numeracy skills of Indonesian students are low. Based on an interview with one of the teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Pakis, information was obtained that the numeracy skills of students at SMP Negeri 1 Pakis were low. This is due to students' lack of numeracy questions, and teachers often give routine questions requiring procedural skills. This is a classroom action research that explores the teacher's actions to improve the numeracy skills of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pakis Malang by giving problem cards. The research subjects were 32 Class VII D students of SMP Negeri 1 Pakis Malang in the academic year 2021/2022. The research instruments include lesson plans, problem cards, test questions, observation sheets, interview guidelines, and field notes. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, presenting data, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results showed an increase in students with a KKM score of 30.77% and Classical Learning Completeness of 26.26%. The study shows that giving problem cards can improve students' numeracy skills. Through the Problem Card, students are allowed to write down the information asked in their language and are given guidance/instructions to solve the given problem.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the tools used by teachers to improve quality and overcome some learning problems. One of the problems that is often encountered by students is about understanding the concept. One of the learning media that can be designed to overcome this problem is student worksheets or LKPD. This study aims to describe the process and results of contextual-based E-LKPD development on class VIII circle material using live worksheets so that a valid and feasible product is produced. This research refers to a 4D development model that is modified into 3D (Define, Design, Develop). The results showed that the level of validity or feasibility of product development from the assessment of media experts got a percentage of 80.47% which was in the "Decent" category. From the assessment of material experts, the percentage of 90% is in the "Very feasible" category. From the trials conducted on the teacher, the percentage of 98.21% was in the "Very feasible" category. The last trial conducted on a small group of 9 students of class VIII got a percentage of 95% which was in the "Very feasible" category. The development of contextual-based E-LKPD with live worksheets media in the class VIII circle material is valid and feasible to be used as a learning medium that can be used to develop students' conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The low achievement of student’s mathematics learning is a problem that must be considered and resolved. The teacher’s role in improving student achievement is very necessary. One of factors that influence student achievement is the selection of learning models. This study aims to determine an increase in student achievement after the implementation of the CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) learning model. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental research with Pre-Experimental Design typye One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Determination of the sample using saturated sampling technique. Subject of this research is all eighth graders in SMP AL Hikmah Balongrejo. Data collection techniques used are interviews, validation questionnaire, and learning outcomes test. While the research instrument uses learning outcomes test, namely pretest and posttest. Data analysis technique use validity test, reliability test, normality test, homogenity test, and paired sample t-test. Results showed significant level 0,000 > 0,05. It can be concluded that there is a difference in learning achievement (cognitive) between before and after the implementation of CORE learning model. Based on a review of the average student learning outcomes at the pretest and posttest, it was concluded that there was an increase in learning achievement after the implementation of the CORE learning model.

Abstract

Changes in the learning process during the pandemic affected student learning outcomes. As many as 68% of students score below 75 in computational mathematics courses. These results are not comparable to learning outcomes when learning takes place offline. The results of the interviews show that students have difficulty understanding the material when learning is done online. For this reason, a qualitative descriptive study was carried out which aimed to analyze and describe students' conceptual understanding abilities in solving matrix problems using the APOS stages. The research subjects were 3 students of the informatics engineering study program who had taken computational mathematics courses and received matrix material, were in the category of students with low, medium, and high conceptual understanding, and were able to communicate their thoughts orally and in writing. Data collection techniques were carried out through written tests, interviews, and observations. The results showed that students with low conceptual understanding were able to solve matrix problems up to the object stage and made calculation mistakes. Students with a moderate understanding of concepts can solve matrix problems up to the schematic stage but are not careful in doing calculations. Meanwhile, students with high conceptual understanding can solve matrix questions up to the schematic stage, determine the correct answer, make conclusions, and reflect on the problem-solving obtained.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the observation that students who understand formal mathematics do not necessarily understand non-formal mathematics in society. This shows that mathematics learning in schools has not fully involved the things around students and tends to only train students' ability to answer questions. The purpose of this study is to describe the way pottery crafters construct curved-sided spaces and reveal the concept of curved-sided spaces found in pottery making in Banyumulek Village. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were two pottery artisans who were selected using purposive sampling technique. The research subjects were chosen based on certain considerations, namely the subject is a practitioner or expert in making pottery. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the way pottery craftsmen construct the curved side space in pottery making consists of 4 processes, namely, making tombong (base), bebentet (curved side), belong (neck or connecting curve), and making biwir (mouth or lid) pottery. In addition, there is a concept of curved-sided space in pottery making in Banyumulek Village, namely the concept of partial tubes, cones, spheres, and the concept of whole tubes.
