Abstract

In January 2020, President Donald Trump put forward a peaceproposal which he claimed to be the “deal of the century”. It is apeace proposal that offers general framework on settlement ofborders, sovereignty of the Palestinian state, the status ofJerusalem, and refugees’ issue as well as a framework oneconomic cooperation between Palestine and Israel which Trumpinsisted as a fair final solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This article seeks to assess the impact of this proposal to thePalestinian-Israeli peace process. In doing so, this article comparesthis proposal with previous agreements and concludes that thisproposal brings negative, rather than positive, impacts to the peaceprocess since it is not based on a balance positioning between thetwo conflicting parties. This proposal strengthens Israeli’s claimand hence enhances their position in the negotiation whichindicating the inability of the United States to serve as an honestbroker to the peace process. In addition, this proposal was putforward by President Trump during an unfavorable condition inboth Palestinian and Israeli domestic politics. The only positiveaspect of this proposal is that it can serve as a reason to restartnegotiation process. Therefore, this proposal should be consideredonly as a steppingstone to open another round of peace negotiationbetween Palestine and Israel and should not be implemented as it is.

Abstract

When the phenomenon of contemporary South Korean culture in the world goes viral, some content can be regarded as tendentious content in the receiving countries. While some of these countries have large potential markets for South Korean commodities, including contemporary culture, these seem untouched by some of the tendentious prejudices exercised by South Korean. This research will emphasize the answer to the question of South Koreans who often take tendentious actions towards other countries/cultures? This article argues that the acts of prejudice committed by South Koreans are due to the high ethnocentric attitudes of South Korean society. Even when it became controversial, in the end, South Korea did not care much about cultural sensitivity to the culture of other countries. This article uses the concept of ethnocentrism as an answer to the frequent actions of either racism or things that tend to be in South Korean society. The findings confirm that the tendentious act of South Korean society stems from their feelings of cultural superiority by looking down on other cultures since Korea was colonized and is now a country with a more developed economy.

Abstract

By using three main concepts, namely geopolitical agents, geopolitical structures, and geopolitical codes, this study examines how the geopolitics of Southeast Asia after the Indo-Pacific initiative in 2007, especially in the framework of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific. Assessing qualitatively-descriptively through analyzing data from various books, journals and credible websites, the authors argue that, apart from ASEAN, there are also a number of actors/agents in the form of countries that have influence in the geopolitical structure, especially in Southeast Asia and even in the Indo-Pacific in general, namely Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. The concepts of The Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) and the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIPs) have also been part of the Indo-Pacific geopolitical structures. While the Philippines and Singapore tend to take sides in supporting the US Indo-Pacific idea, some of the other actors, namely Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, actually show a neutral position.

Abstract

Vanuatu is one of several Melanesian countries that has been consistently supporting the independence of West Papua. Vanuatu's stance is a form of Melanesian solidarity against colonialism that based on a regional value known as Melanesian Way. Introduced by Bernard Narokobi, a Papua New Guinean philosopher and poet, Melanesian Way brought by several students of Vanuatu that studied at University of Papua New Guinean. This nationalist ideology then become the spirit or anti colonialization in Vanuatu. This ideology will be discussed in this article as identity that construct Vanuatu interest in supporting the independence of West Papua.  This study applied a holistic constructivism approach to assessing how Vanuatu's identity can influence its stance in supporting West Papua’s independence from 2010-2019. From the two variables of holistic constructivism approach, the domestic and the systemic level, it was found that the domestic level had a bigger role in shaping Vanuatu's stance on West Papua’s independence. This means that Vanuatu's identity and interests are endogenously shaped in which corporate identity has a more important role than social identity. Keywords : Vanuatu, West Papua, Melanesian Way, Holistic Constructivism, identity

Abstract

The use of Gili Trawangan, a small island located northwest of Lombok, has changed from a place where fishers from Sulawesi anchored their boats to become a tourist spot visited by tourists from various regions and countries, particularly for SCUBA diving. From a geopolitical point of view, the fishermen, who were the first settlers of the island, now lose their control of the territory and find it difficult to access resources, culture and economy. Investors from outside the island and abroad have controlled this island geopolitically and create their own geopolitical identity. They use Western identities and cultures to dominate geopolitics in the strategic area on the island as the market wants. These are findings derived from a six-month field study on Gili Trawangan and direct interviews with early settlers and community leaders. Finally, the primary data was analysed using the geopolitical concepts of borders and identities.

Abstract

This paper attempts to describe the competitive implications of the United States and China in global climate governance. It is important to discuss because China and the United States have been in intense competition in recent years. Besides, the United States decided to leave the Paris Agreement to provide space for China to become a leader in the government and strengthen its influence in the international world. China's active role certainly has implications for its competition with the United States. This paper uses qualitative methods with secondary data sources. The findings of this paper are that China's influence and commitment to the Paris Agreement show that China has the potential to become a leader. However, its status as the largest developing country in the regime shows that China has not chosen to be a hegemon. This choice opens an opportunity for the United States to take the lead on climate change issues again.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the assistance provided by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives to the Jakarta Feminist in the 2017-2021 period as one of the proofs that Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy has so far been running smoothly. In addition, this article also aims to correct the misunderstandings of foreign policy observers regarding FIAP as a feminist foreign policy. FIAP has so far only used elements of Liberal Feminism as a lens of observation to focus on their foreign aid agenda to achieve a safe, inclusive, and prosperous world development. Therefore, this article argues that FIAP does contain elements of Feminism but focuses more on assisting non-profit organizations in developing countries, one of which is Indonesia. By using a descriptive qualitative research method that processes primary and secondary data from personal interviews and literature review, this article finds that CFLI, under the auspices of FIAP, has been successful in assisting the Jakarta Feminist in 2017-2021 and has also managed to reveal that FIAP is not a feminist foreign policy. FIAP oversees several foreign aid programs initiated by Canada for developing countries, one of which is CFLI.
