Abstract

High feed prices and a high proportion of feed costs cause the profitability of fish farming businesses to decline. One of the government's efforts to reduce feed costs is encouraging fish farmers to produce their feed using local raw materials through Self-Sufficiency Fish Feed Program. This study aims to analyze program’s impact on the fish farming performance using the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method. Performance is measured by cost, revenue, profit, R/C ratio, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and technical efficiency which estimated using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results show that program implementation at the fish farmer's level has not positively impacted the fish farming business's performance. The results of the PSM analysis show that the program significantly impacts on costs, revenue, profit, R/C ratio, FCR, and technical efficiency. Farmers with programs have a higher average cost and FCR than farmers without programs. The fish farmers with program have a lower revenue, profit, R/C ratio and technical efficiency than fish farmers without program. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the main cause the program has not had a positive impact on the fish farming businesses performance is the quality of self-sufficiency fish feed. Therefore, the recommended policy is to create a system for supplying local raw materials with good quality, increasing feed formulation training and need specialize by forming group of self-sufficiency fish feed producers separated from the fish farming group.

Abstract

Rubber prices in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic decreased in March, April, and May. The decline in rubber prices in the domestic market was caused by a decline in world rubber demand, this affected the selling price of rubber at the farmers’ level. The impact of the decline in rubber prices also affects the income of rubber farmers who depend on rubber farming for their lives. This condition affects in the decreasing of farmers' purchasing power for primary and secondary products. This study aimed to analyze the differences between income and household consumption expenditure of rubber farmers before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Tanding Marga Village. The study used survey method. Data collection was carried out in March 2021. Sampling was done using the simple random sampling method. The total sample for the analysis tool was 41 rubber farmers from 474 total rubber farmers. The data processing method used a paired two-sample t-test analysis tools. The results showed that there were differences in the income and household consumption expenditure of rubber farmers before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Farmers income decreased -12.61% during the Covid-19 pandemic. Income also affects consumption expenditures of farmer households. The household consumption expenditure decreased as much as -14.76% during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the results of the t-test, there are significant differences between farmer household consumption expenditures before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Farmers should implement adaptation strategies to overcome the decline in income, which is by finding other income sources.

Abstract

Meeting the food needs of the Indonesian population is a top priority, and national strategic food plays a vital role in achieving this goal. However, the unstable nature of national strategic food prices can have significant implications, particularly for those with low incomes. This volatility can hinder access to healthy and nutritious food, ultimately impacting the nation's food security. In recent times, food prices have risen sharply, which is expected to have far-reaching consequences. Therefore, it is imperative to analyze the volatility of national strategic food prices to comprehend price fluctuations and patterns. This study analyzed the volatility of national strategic food prices in Indonesia from 2018 to 2022, focusing on commodities such as shallots, garlic, red chilies, cooking oil, and rice. The ARCH-GARCH method used to conduct the analysis, revealing that all five commodity prices were volatile at the national level. The red chili and shallot exhibits a distinctive pattern, characterized by an increase volatility during the second quarter of each year. This can be attributed to the rise in demand during the Ramadan. Conversely, garlic volatility was high in early 2019 and 2020, while remaining relatively stable during other periods. Cooking oil volatility remained stable until the end of 2020, but started to increase in early 2021. This closely related to cooking oil crisis that occurred in Indonesia. Lastly, rice price volatility was high in early 2018. Subsequently, exhibited relatively stable volatility until first quarter of 2022, although there were some periods where the volatility exceeded its average.

Abstract

The local wisdom of farmers is created based on the long experience of predecessors related to the problems of the agricultural system and the environment to gain maximum results without destroying the balance of nature. The local wisdom of farmers is closely related to traditional perspectives, obedience to local customs and culture, and knowledge of virtues related to ethics and morals. One of the people in Indonesia who do farming activities with the implementation of local wisdom is the Thekelan farmer. They apply local wisdom in farming according to the teachings passed down from generation to generation by their ancestors. The location of Thekelan farmers is in Thekelan Village, Getasan District, Semarang Regency. For Thekelan farmers, being a farmer is full of dignity, as evidenced in various traditional rituals expressing gratitude for their profession. From the point of view of the agribusiness subsystems, local wisdom still applied by Thekelan farmers by the utilization of livestock waste, application of four types of intercropping system, and doing traditional pamongan ceremonies with offerings in the form of “thowok” as a form of offering and gratitude to nature.

Abstract

Food price volatility often occurs and cannot be avoided, including food price volatility that occurs in Parepare City. The effect of movement or changes in food prices appears to influence inflation, which in turn becomes the purpose of this study, namely to analyze the effect of changes in food prices on inflation in Parepare City. The analysis method used is multiple linear regression analysis. The data used is secondary data in the form of monthly time series from July 2018 to June 2021. The independent variables in this study are the food prices of rice, chicken meat, red chili, chicken eggs and granulated sugar. The results showed that the food prices of rice and chicken eggs have an increasing trend while the prices of chicken meat, red chili, and granulated sugar tend to decrease. The coefficient of determination test results shows that changes in food prices simultaneously positively and significantly affect inflation. The t-statistical test shows that partially changes in food prices of rice and chicken meat have a positive and significant effect on inflation while changes in food prices of red chili, chicken eggs and granulated sugar have a positive but insignificant effect on inflation. This research has implications for public policy to develop food prices stabilization policies, such as food reserve policies, market regulations, incentives for food producers, or social assistance programs to alleviate the impact of food inflation.

Abstract

Sustainable economic growth is an absolute requirement for the economic development of a region, both on a regional and national scale. The government should develop sectors that are capable of providing a multiplier on other sectors. This is also very much needed by the Province of Riau. This study aims to identify and analyze the leading sectors that have competitive competitiveness and to determine the priority of the base sector as information material and considerations especially for the Provincial Government of Riau in the development of economic development in the future. This study uses secondary data in the form of Riau Province sectoral GDP and Indonesia's sectoral GDP based on constant 2010 prices. The type of data collected is in the form of a time series from 2015 to 2021 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Riau Province and the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. The data is then analyzed with a quantitative descriptive approach using the Location Quotient (LQ). Based on the LQ method, there are 3 leading sectors in Riau Province, namely Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mining and Quarrying and Processing Industry. The three sectors have an LQ above 1, which means that these sectors are the base sectors. The three PDRB sectors from 2015–2021 have continued to increase except for the mining and quarrying sector which has continued to decline every year but is still the basis sector for economic growth in Riau.
