Abstract

During pregnancy, women commonly experience both psychological and emotional changes, leading to concerns about childbirth and potential labor complications. Therefore, education programs became essential for preparing mothers mentally for delivery with the engagement of health workers and families. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Sehat Jiwa education on the length of the first active stage of labor. Using a Quasi-experimental design with a two-group control approach, the sample comprised 64 respondents (34 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group). The instruments adopted were the Sehat Jiwa (English: Soul Health) education module, questionnaires, and partograph sheets. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the length of the first active phase between the intervention and control groups, with a p-value of 0.061 > 0.05. However, the average duration for the intervention group (5.88 hours) was slightly shorter than the control group (6.40 hours). Emphasizing Sehat Jiwa-based education for pregnant women was crucial, fostering smoother delivery processes and reducing the likelihood of increased labor complications.

Abstract

Human resources are the most important and integral part of any organization, including the health sector. Therefore, this study aimed to examine human resources needs in the medical records field, with a particular focus on the roles and responsibilities of medical records officers. The analysis was carried out to identify critical challenges faced by medical record officers in meeting health service standards and managing patient data. Secondary data were collected from a survey of workload and human resources needs for medical records in 2023. The samples were selected using the Stratified Sampling method, by dividing the population into two groups (strata) based on the accreditation levels of health centers in Mataram city. Specifically, Tanjung Karang represented the main accredited center, while Babangan was categorized as a basic accredited center. Data analysis was performed with the Workload Indicators of Staffing Need Method (WISN) to calculate labor requirements and health crew members necessary for evaluating the distribution of health worker availability. The results showed the scarcity of medical record officers, difficulties in managing patient data, as well as the need for training and skills development in line with advances in information technology within the health sector.

Abstract

Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) is a common condition with increased prevalence among pregnant women and can negatively affect the fetus. According to WHO, a total of 374 million new cases of STI are projected to occur in 2020, including gonorrhea (82 million), syphilis (7.1 million), and trichomoniasis (156 million). Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between the characteristics of vaginal discharge (fluor albus) in pregnant women and STI. The descriptive method was used with a cross-sectional design, and the procedures were conducted in May 2023. The sample population comprised all pregnant women with ANC in Makassar during the study period. Vaginal swabs were obtained from 127 pregnant women who were willing to participate and had vaginal discharge. The results showed that 53 participants reported having physiological flour albus, while 74 had pathological symptoms. Itching and odor were reported to be the most common clinical signs associated with patients' abnormal vaginal discharge, followed by itching, pain, and odor. Furthermore, a significantly high prevalence of the condition was observed among pregnant women aged 20-30 years. Based on the results, the predominant symptom of fluor albus was itching and odor when combined with microorganisms that caused STI. Several pregnant women with clinical complaints also had microorganisms apart from those associated with STI. These results indicated the pressing need to develop additional testing in pregnant women with fluor albus, particularly those with concomitant symptoms.

Abstract

Spatial analysis approach is capable of identifying spatial clustering of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) across districts/cities in Indonesia. This information is essential for policymakers when developing appropriate health interventions at districts/cities level. At delivery, maternal age is one of the strongest predictors of infant mortality, which is closely related to child marriage. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between child marriage and IMR in Indonesia, which was controlled by the influence of maternal, household, and health factors. The results showed that there were spatial dependency on IMR in Indonesia. Analysis Regression Spatial Durbin Model showed that child marriage had a positive and significant relationship with IMR. Furthermore, it was discovered that IMR was influenced by several explanatory variables in districts and neighboring cities. To reduce mortality rate, there was a need to increase health services by developing neighboring areas and building access to areas with good health facilities. Educational initiatives are also important, emphasizing the importance of delaying the age of marriage and enforcing the minimum age limits. This approach empowered every child to marriage carefully and had good reproductive health knowledge that could decrease IMR in Indonesia.

Abstract

Despite government and non-governmental organizations' efforts, contraceptive utilization in Nigeria remains low. Similarly, Cameroon faces high maternal mortality and low contraceptive prevalence. Adolescent pregnancy remains a significant social and public health concern globally, necessitating efforts to promote contraceptive use. Parent-adolescent sexual communication is often viewed as taboo in Nigeria and Cameroon, hindering awareness about contraceptive use. This study examines the role of parents in creating awareness of contraceptive use among female university students in Nigeria and Cameroon. The study adopts a comparative approach, investigating the cultural role of parents in awareness creation for contraceptive use in Nigeria and Cameroon. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 420 female university students in both countries. The findings highlight the valuable role of parents in shaping adolescents' knowledge and behavior regarding contraceptive use. Recommendations include enhancing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, promoting parent-adolescent communication, addressing cultural barriers, improving contraceptive access, and conducting further research. Implementing these recommendations can empower adolescents with accurate information, foster supportive parent-adolescent relationships, and enhance sexual and reproductive health outcomes among young people.

Abstract

Decreased immunity is a risk factor for viral respiratory infections, underscoring the crucial role of balanced diets to support the immune system. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the eating habits of people in the location based on balanced nutrition guidelines during the Covid-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional design was used and the samples included 3394 respondents who met the criteria of being ≥15 years old and living in the provinces of Central Java, East Java, Riau, and Southeast Sulawesi. Data were collected using a Google form-based online questionnaire filled out independently by respondents. The gathered data comprised compliance with balanced nutrition recommendations for consuming staples, protein-rich foods, fruits, vegetables, water, salt, sugar, and oil. In addition, diet was also observed based on several sociodemographic variables. The results showed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, 75.7% of respondents had not fulfilled intake according to balanced nutrition advice due to insufficient fruit consumption. However, about 60.6% consistently used dietary supplements, and 77.8% did not limit salt, sugar, as well as oil intake. The population at more risk of inadequate nutrition included younger age groups, males, those with low education, unemployed, and living in areas with high Covid-19 cases. This study concluded that during the Covid-19 pandemic, many Indonesians did not implement a diet based on the principles of balanced nutrition. Therefore, education on the importance of balanced nutrition consumption, local food campaigns, cheap markets, and food aid was needed, specifically for rarely consumed diets such as fruit, by targeting the most vulnerable groups.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women were reported to face a disproportionately high death rate, reaching nearly 25% of the global pregnant population. According to data from POGI (Indonesian Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology) as of April 2021, 536 pregnant women in Indonesia were exposed to COVID-19 resulting in 16 deaths. This implies an estimated mortality rate of 32 per 1000. Family with pregnant women experience more worries about the COVID-19 infection, which reduces resilience capacity. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the impact of certain factors including husband education, profession, family size, and wealth, as well as the presence of pregnant women on the resilience of family in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional design and analytical observational method were used, while the samples comprised 100 households selected using g-form and accidental sampling. In addition, the data collected were analyzed with the chi-square test. The results showed that family income OR = 2.46 (95% CI = 1.08 - 5.61; p-value = 0.03) and the presence of pregnant women OR = 5.40 (95% CI = 2.25 - 12.96; p-value 0.01) had a significant relationship with family resilience. Specifically, low family resilience was related to lower income and the presence of pregnant women in the household.

Abstract

Infants who are not exclusively breastfed often have the potential to experience implications for their future quality of life. Furthermore, the extent of this impact is influenced by the concerted efforts of both the father and mother in promoting and implementing exclusive breastfeeding. Several studies have also shown that father’s proactive support is an essential factor in its successful implementation. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between paternal control behavior and exclusive breastfeeding. A quantitative cross-sectional method was used and the sample population comprised 326 fathers with children aged < 2 years old. The procedures were carried out in the working area of the Situ Udik Health Center in July 2023. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin size formula, followed by the selection of 77 respondents based on the random sampling technique. The data obtained were then analyzed using the chi-square test to assess the association between the variables. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between father's knowledge (p=0.001), attitude (0.006), and trust (p=000.0) with exclusive breastfeeding. Meanwhile, breastfeeding fathers (0.339) and intention (0.341) had no significant influence. Based on these results, father played an essential role in providing support during this practice

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting among children in 2021 and 2022 was 25.3% and 24.4% respectively, according to Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey in Mataram City. The Religious Court of NTB Province reported that the rate of early marriage among children was 16.59%. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between early marriage and pregnancy history with stunted children in Mataram City. An analytical survey method was used with a case-control design, questionnaire, and anthropometric measurements conducted in a single session. The samples were selected using cluster random sampling, reaching 61 children aged 24-59 months for normal and stunted groups. The results showed that the samples were predominantly male, while increased weight during pregnancy <10 kg (p=0.009, OR=2.948, CI=1.285-6.766) and maternal height <150 cm (p=0.004, OR=2.937, CI=1.406-6.135) were associated with the incidence of stunted children. On the other hand, early marriage (p=0.926, CI=1.31) had no significant relationship with the incidence of stunting. A history of pregnancy and early marriage simultaneously influenced stunting by 30.5%, with the highest predictor being the height of the mother. Therefore, pregnancy history greatly influenced the incidence of stunting among children in Mataram City.

Abstract

The Healthy Indonesia Program with Family Approach (PIS-PK) is a primary initiative enforced by the current government to enhance the quality of family life and public health. In this context, the assessment of the Healthy Family Index (IKS) is essential for implementing appropriate interventions and efforts to prevent chronic diseases at the family level. Measurement indicators of IKS include healthy, pre-healthy, and unhealthy family categories. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze IKS based on PIS-PK in Jeneponto Regency, South Sulawesi in Indonesia. A quantitative design with an analytical survey was used to measure IKS across the entire family population in the Jeneponto Regency Health Center working area, totaling 1,321 households. The total sampling method was applied, and data from 12 healthy family indicators were evaluated following the IKS formula. The results showed that the average IKS value ranged from 0.59 to 0.77, representing unhealthy, pre-healthy, and healthy family, which constituted 12%, 54.35%, and 33.5% of the examined population, respectively. High numbers of family fell in the pre-healthy and unhealthy categories due to limited participation in family planning program (55.11%), non-utilization of official facilities for childbirth (11.65%), lack of exclusive breastfeeding practices over 7–23 months (10.14%), and absence of weight monitoring at Posyandu (5.59%). Consequently, integrated efforts and cross-sectoral engagement are crucial for improving IKS status.
