Abstract

This study aimed to identify the diversity of butterfly species in Hutan Kota Munjul. The method used was a 500 m line transect combined with trapping and exploratory techniques. Butterfly sampling was conducted using insect nets during sunny weather between 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00 WIB. The data collected included species, number of individuals, encounter points, host vegetation, temperature, humidity, and water sources. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to determine encounter points, diversity index, richness index, and evenness index. The results showed that 25 butterfly species from five families were identified, namely Papilionidae, Nymphalidae, Pieridae, Hesperiidae, and Lycaenidae. In conclusion, Hutan Kota Munjul has a relatively good level of butterfly diversity supported by suitable habitat conditions, indicating its potential as a green open space that supports biodiversity. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of administering chitosan nanoparticles loaded with Jatropha multifida L. stem extract on the erythrocyte count of Mus musculus infected with Plasmodium berghei as well as their characterization results. The method used was the preparation of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with J. multifida L. stem extract using the ionic gelation method. Characterization results using Particle Size Analysis (PSA) showed that the chitosan nanoparticles loaded with J. multifida L. stem extract had an average particle size of 567.12 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) value of 0.11, while characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the highest peak at a 2θ angle of 28.68°. The results indicated differences in the effects of varying concentrations of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with J. multifida L. stem extract on erythrocyte counts. The conclusion of this study is that the most effective dose of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with J. multifida L. stem extract was 0.028 g/kg body weight, followed by the administration of crude J. multifida L. stem extract at the same dose.   Keywords: Erythrocytes, Jatropha multifida L., Chitosan, Nanoparticles, Particle Size Analysis, Plasmodium berghei, X-ray Diffraction

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on students' critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes in Biology science learning at Budi Mulia Junior High School, Bengkulu City. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design on 30 seventh-grade students divided into a control class (15 students) and an experimental class (15 students). The research instruments were a critical thinking ability test (5 essay questions) and a cognitive learning outcome test (10 multiple-choice questions) on the classification of living things. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test with SPSS. The results showed a significant difference in critical thinking skills with a significance value of 0.002 <0.05 and cognitive learning outcomes with a significance value of 0.007 <0.05 between the control and experimental classes. The average posttest score for critical thinking (88.67) and cognitive learning outcomes (88.67) of the experimental class was higher than the control class (81.33 and 83.33). It was concluded, the PjBL model significantly improved students' critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes in Biology. Abstract

This study aimed to develop a digital comic learning media on cell topics and to analyze its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking skills at grade XI of MAN 3 Medan. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research instruments included validation sheets from material and media experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, as well as pretest and posttest assessments. The validation results showed that the digital comic media was categorized as highly valid, with a score of 93.9% from media experts and 87.8% from material experts. Practicality testing indicated a teacher response score of 87% and a student response score of 81.9%, both classified as very practical. The effectiveness analysis showed an increase in the average learning outcomes from 82.96% in the pretest to 89.26% in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.31, which falls into the moderate category. This result was influenced by the high initial ability of the students. In conclusion, the developed digital comic media is valid, practical, and moderately effective in supporting the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills on cell material. Abstract

This study aimed to inform the public about the potential utilization of rubber wastewater and disposable diaper waste as raw materials for organic fertilizer using Pumakkal as a fermentor to enhance edamame productivity. The method used was a literature study of relevant scientific sources, including national and international journals, books, and research reports discussing the characteristics of rubber wastewater, the hydrogel content and organic compounds in disposable diapers, the role of indigenous bacteria in Pumakkal during the fermentation process, and the compliance of organic fertilizer with Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The results showed that rubber wastewater still contains organic materials with potential use as fertilizer, while disposable diapers contain hydrogel and organic compounds from urine that can support nutrient availability. Pumakkal fermentor, which contains indigenous bacteria derived from pineapple wastewater, was able to effectively degrade organic materials, resulting in fertilizer that meets SNI quality standards and has the potential to be applied to improve edamame productivity. In conclusion, the utilization of rubber wastewater and disposable diapers with Pumakkal fermentor shows promising potential as an environmentally friendly organic fertilizer and as a sustainable solution for waste management and edamame productivity enhancement. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the needs for digital learning media in the Plant Physiology course as a foundation for developing an innovative learning model based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) supported by a Deep Learning approach and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The research employed a quantitative descriptive method involving 42 students and 4 Biology Education lecturers. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed descriptively. The findings indicate that the availability of teaching  materials  remains  limited  and  learning  media  are  still  predominantly conventional, mainly PowerPoint presentations and textbooks, while the utilization of interactive  digital  media  is  relatively  low. Students’ ownership of learning is categorized as good, with persistence as the most dominant aspect, whereas digital literacy is categorized as competent, with the ability to use AI technology identified as an aspect that requires further enhancement. In conclusion, the development of an AI-integrated flipbook e-module based on PBL is considered relevant to support Plant Physiology learning, as it has the potential to strengthen learning autonomy, enhance ownership of learning, and expand students’ digital literacy in an adaptive and personalized manner. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the morphometric and meristic characteristics of T. vittata from three populations as learning resources for the Animal Ecology course. This is a quantitative descriptive study using data collection methods involving purposive sampling from three research locations. Data analysis was performed using software through the Kruskal–Wallis test and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that there were no significant differences in morphometric characteristics between populations. However, the PCA analysis showed a separation in two meristic characteristics, namely DR and CR, indicating physiological adaptation to habitat conditions. It was concluded that the morphological characteristics of T. vitatta related to environmental differences could be used as learning material for the Animal Ecology course.
