Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Problem Based Learning (PBL)-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) to improve students' problem-solving skills on the topic of the human movement system. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research was conducted at MAS Aisyiyah Medan involving subject matter experts, language experts, media experts, biology teachers, and 32 eleventh-grade students. Data were collected through observations, interviews, validation questionnaires, response questionnaires, documentation, and problem-solving skills tests. The developed product was assessed based on validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The validation results showed that the LKPD obtained a very high feasibility level, with a percentage of 94.64% from the subject matter expert, 96.15% from the language expert, and 96.15% from the media expert. The implementation results showed an increase in students' average scores from 49.7 in the pretest to 71.9 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.44, which was categorized as moderate. Therefore, the PBL-based LKPD developed in this study was declared valid, practical, and sufficiently effective in improving students' problem-solving skills in biology learning. Abstract

This study aimed to develop a science literacy-based biology e-module integrated with Qur’anic verses on the human respiratory system topic to improve high school students’ critical thinking skills. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4D model, consisting of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. The trial subjects involved 25 eleventh-grade students and a team of expert validators. The data collection instruments consisted of validation sheets, user response questionnaires, and a test instrument comprising six essay questions based on Facione’s critical thinking indicators. The results showed that the developed e-module was categorized as highly valid, with validity percentages of 95.04% from media experts, 95.63% from material experts, and 89.29% from Qur’anic integration experts. The product was also categorized as highly practical based on teacher responses of 97.92% and student responses of 91.86%. Furthermore, the e-module was proven effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills, increasing the average score from 50.44 to 82.92, with an N-Gain index of 0.66, which was categorized as moderate. Therefore, the science literacy-based e-module integrated with Qur’anic verses was declared feasible, highly practical, and effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills, as well as contributing positively to harmonizing science and faith. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between learning outcomes and self-efficacy, both separately and jointly, with the environmental literacy of tenth-grade students in environmental conservation learning at SMA Negeri 1 Torgamba. This study used a quantitative correlational design with a sample of 71 students selected through cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation and multiple correlation tests. The results showed a moderate relationship between learning outcomes and environmental literacy (r = 0.486; p = 0.000), a weak but significant relationship between self-efficacy and environmental literacy (r = 0.376; p = 0.001), and a simultaneous contribution of both variables of 23.7% to the variation in environmental literacy (R = 0.486; R² = 0.237; p = 0.000). Based on these results, it can be concluded that learning outcomes are a more dominant predictor than self-efficacy in shaping students’ environmental literacy. Abstract

This study aimed to develop a booklet on the diversity of plant-like protists on Pulau Unggas as a valid, practical, and effective teaching material to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes in the Low-Level Organism Taxonomy course. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4-D development model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research data were obtained through observations of plant-like protist diversity, expert validation questionnaires, lecturer and student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests in the form of pretest and posttest. The results showed that the experimental class posttest mean score of 87.94 ± 6.23 was higher than that of the control class, which obtained 58.55 ± 6.15. The experimental class obtained an N-Gain score of 76%, categorized as high, while the control class obtained 22%, categorized as low. The Independent Sample t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in students’ cognitive learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, the booklet on plant-like protist diversity on Pulau Unggas is feasible and effective as teaching material to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes. Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI)-based biology e-magazine on Biotechnology material for tenth-grade students at SMA Taman Siswa Pematang Siantar that is valid, practical, and effective in supporting students' conceptual understanding. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of five socioscientific issues spanning local to global scales, namely bioethanol in Papua, GMO food safety, COVID-19 vaccines, designer babies, and de-extinction, into a single e-magazine product for the senior high school level, distinguishing it from previous SSI-Biotechnology studies that were generally web-based or worksheet (LKPD)-based with a single issue. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model, consisting of the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The product trial involved 25 tenth-grade students of SMA Taman Siswa Pematang Siantar, one biology teacher, and three expert validators comprising media, material, and SSI experts. The results showed that the e-magazine obtained a very valid category, with assessment percentages of 94% from the media expert, 92% from the material expert, and 94% from the SSI expert. The practicality test showed a very practical response from students at 92% (n=10) and from the teacher at 94% (n=1). The effectiveness test showed an increase in students' conceptual understanding, with the average pretest score of 34.8 increasing to 88.4 on the posttest (n=25) and an N-Gain value of 0.82, categorized as high. The study concludes that the developed SSI-based e-magazine meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in supporting the improvement of students' conceptual understanding on tenth-grade Biotechnology material.
