Abstract

This study aimed to describe the principal’s role in shaping students’ religious culture at SMP IT An Nida in Lubuklinggau City. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The research informants consisted of the principal, vice principals for curriculum and student affairs, Islamic education teachers, and students who were purposively selected based on their involvement in shaping religious culture. Data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results showed that the principal played the roles of a role model, motivator, manager, and supervisor in shaping students’ religious culture. These roles were implemented through congregational prayers, Qur’an recitation and memorization, the implementation of the 5S culture, the integration of Islamic values into learning, motivation and recognition, and regular supervision and evaluation. The implementation of these programs positively contributed to students’ discipline in worship, compliance with school rules, responsibility, courtesy, and respect for teachers. However, the implementation still faced challenges, including uneven parental support and limited time for intensive guidance. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the principal’s consistency and exemplary conduct play an important role in shaping students’ religious culture at SMP IT An Nida in Lubuklinggau City. Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' understanding profile of the material on the evolution of antibiotic resistance, including students' level of understanding, subconcepts that are difficult to comprehend, reasoning patterns, misconceptions, and factors that influence students' understanding. This study employed a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. The research sample consisted of 143 twelfth-grade students from SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa, selected using a purposive cluster sampling technique. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests, essay tests, two-tier diagnostic tests, questionnaires, and interviews, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that students' level of understanding varied and tended to be in the moderate to low category. The subconcepts of mutation and/or gene transfer as the source of resistant traits, as well as the impact of improper antibiotic use, were the most difficult materials for students to understand. In addition, students still experienced misconceptions in explaining the relationship between mutation, natural selection, and the development of antibiotic resistance. Factors that supported students' understanding included the relevance of the material to daily life, the use of case examples, visual media, discussion, and the way teachers explained the material. Based on these findings, learning about the evolution of antibiotic resistance needs to be developed through more contextual and visual learning strategies oriented toward strengthening conceptual understanding. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the improvement in students’ science communication skills after participating in learning through a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model based on Gallery Walk and incorporating Environmental-STREAM in environmental pollution topics. Environmental-STREAM was used as an integrative framework that extends STREAM by positioning the environmental dimension as the primary learning context. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The participants consisted of 34 seventh-grade students divided into an experimental group and a control group through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a science communication skills essay test and descriptively analyzed based on N-Gain scores. The results showed that the experimental group obtained a mean N-Gain of 0.315, categorized as moderate, while the control group obtained a mean N-Gain of 0.297, categorized as low. In the experimental group, the Cognitive Categories indicator obtained the highest N-Gain of 0.491, followed by Content Knowledge at 0.268 and Volitional Change at 0.204. The relatively small difference in N-Gain between the groups indicates that the advantage of the experimental group was primarily evident in the Cognitive Categories indicator, while Content Knowledge and Volitional Change did not demonstrate substantial differences compared with the control group. Based on these findings, the PBL model based on Gallery Walk and incorporating Environmental-STREAM has the potential to support the improvement of students’ science communication skills, particularly in the cognitive dimension of environmental pollution learning. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the utilization of biogas derived from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) as an alternative fuel in a biomass boiler system at a palm oil mill. This study employed a quantitative experimental approach through direct testing on an existing boiler unit using biomass combustion and hybrid combustion involving biomass and biogas. The research stages included POME biogas characterization, burner prototype design and testing, burner integration with the boiler, and evaluation of combustion stability and solid fuel substitution. The results showed that POME biogas could be utilized as a partial substitute fuel in the biomass boiler system. The use of biogas maintained combustion stability and reduced palm fiber and shell consumption without disrupting the continuity of steam generation. Although the heating value and supply of biogas fluctuated, the combustion system remained operational through appropriate adjustment of the biogas flow rate. Based on these findings, the integrated biogas-burner-boiler system is technically feasible as a solution to improve energy utilization efficiency, optimize POME waste utilization, and reduce dependence on solid biomass fuels in the palm oil industry. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the distribution and synthesize the main findings regarding the implementation of guided inquiry learning in developing students’ critical thinking skills in science education in Indonesia. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method referring to the PRISMA framework. A total of 27 articles published between 2016 and 2026 were analyzed based on educational level, science discipline, methodological characteristics, and major findings. The results showed that studies on guided inquiry learning and critical thinking skills were predominantly conducted at the senior high school level, while studies at the elementary and junior high school levels remained limited. At the senior high school level, physics was the most frequently investigated science discipline. Most studies reported that the implementation of guided inquiry learning was associated with improvements in students’ critical thinking skills, as indicated by increased posttest scores, moderate to high N-Gain scores, and significant differences between the experimental and control groups. Guided inquiry learning also facilitated students’ active engagement in scientific investigation, problem-solving, discussion, and evidence-based reasoning. Based on the synthesis, guided inquiry learning has the potential to serve as an effective approach to developing critical thinking skills in science education. However, further studies at the elementary and junior high school levels and in science disciplines other than physics are still needed.
