Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' critical thinking skills in the context of numeracy in terms of their self-perception of mathematical competence. A qualitative approach was used with a case study design, involving four eighth-grade students at a junior high school in Bondowoso who were selected based on the categories of positive, negative, declining, and improving self-perception. The research instruments consisted of a self-perception questionnaire and numeracy questions analyzed using six indicators of critical thinking, namely interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation, and self-regulation. Data were obtained through test results and interview transcripts. The results showed that students with positive and increasing self-perceptions were able to meet all six critical thinking indicators, while students with negative self-perceptions met two critical thinking indicators and students with declining self-perceptions met four critical thinking indicators. These findings indicate that positive self-perception tends to contribute to better critical thinking skills, but it was found that students with initially positive self-perception did not necessarily have high critical thinking skills. Thus, the dynamics of self-perception are an important factor that needs to be considered in the development of numeracy-based mathematics learning.   Keywords: Critical Thinking, Self-Perception, Numeracy

Abstract

Capital budgeting is a crucial aspect of long-term investment decision-making, particularly under conditions of risk and uncertainty. The literature shows that traditional methods such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) are still dominant, although they are often inadequate to address the dynamics of the global economy, policy, and markets. Therefore, capital budgeting theory and practice are evolving by adopting advanced techniques, including sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, decision trees, and real options, which offer flexibility in the face of uncertainty. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with the primary source being the Scopus database. The selection process yielded 2,709 initial articles, which, after filtering for publication year (2020–2025), language, open access, and keyword relevance, were narrowed down to 90 eligible articles for further analysis. Bibliometric data was then mapped using the VOS viewer to visualize the interconnections between topics. The study's results show an increasing publication trend post-COVID-19 pandemic, with research dominated by energy, infrastructure, and climate policy. The analysis also uncovered research gaps, particularly in the digital sector, MSMEs, and developing country contexts. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need for a hybrid quantitative-behavioral approach to capital budgeting and opens up research opportunities related to the integration of sustainability aspects into investment decisions.   Keywords: capital budgeting, risk, uncertainty, bibliometrics

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) designed based on the Realistic Mathematics Education (PMR) approach in improving the mathematical reasoning skills of junior high school students. The background of this study is the low achievement of Indonesian students in various national and international assessments, such as PISA. The method used is a quasi-experimental with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research sample was taken purposively from grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Langsa in the 2025/2026 academic year. The instrument used was an essay test developed in accordance with the mathematical reasoning indicators from NCTM and has gone through a validation process. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially using the Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed a significant increase in scores between the pretest and posttest, where the average score increased from 62 to 75 with a significance value of p = 0.000 (<0.05). These findings prove that LKPD based on the RME approach is effective in improving students' mathematical reasoning skills. Therefore, a contextual learning approach such as PMR is important to apply in teaching mathematics at the junior high school level.   Keywords: LKPD, Mathematical Reasoning PMR, Pretest-Posttes

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of conceptual understanding of integer multiplication among students at MTs Nida’ul Khairaat Pombewe and to analyze its impact on their ability to solve mathematical problems. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using diagnostic tests, semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. A total of 31 students participated in a test measuring four indicators of conceptual understanding: classification, concept connection, algorithm, and representation. The results showed that 80% of students were in the low understanding category, 15% in the moderate category, and only 5% in the high category. In-depth analysis of three representative subjects revealed that students in the high category demonstrated strong relational understanding, those in the moderate category showed partial understanding, while students in the low category experienced fundamental misconceptions, particularly regarding sign rules and mathematical representations. The findings also indicated that representation—especially visual and contextual—was the weakest aspect for most students. Interviews confirmed that the teacher’s teaching methods, particularly the pace of explanation and lack of repetition, significantly influenced conceptual understanding. This study concludes that strengthening conceptual understanding should be carried out through more concrete, gradual, and representation-based learning to prevent misconceptions and improve students’ ability to solve integer multiplication problems.   Keywords: Conceptual Understanding; Integers; Multiplication; Misconception; Mathematical Representation; Mathematics Learning

Abstract

This study aims to see the improvement of  mathematics learning outcomes of eight grade  students of Ibnu Sina Junior High School on the Pythagorean theorem material through the application of a deep learning approach. The method used is  quantitative with a quasi-experimental design and nonequivalent control group design. All 24 seventh grade students were involved as a saturated research population, which was divided into an experimental class (VIIIA, n = 12) using a deep learning approach and a control class (VIIIB, n = 12) taught using conventional methods. Data collection was carried out through a learning outcome test in the form of descriptive questions given before (pretest) and after treatment (post-test). The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of SPSS version 27. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis indicated that the mean post-test score of the experimental group reached 84.17 while the control group was 67.92. Through hypothesis testing, a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained, meaning  is rejected and  is accepted. The conclusion is that the application of the deep learning approach is significantly effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes in junior high schools   Keyword: Mathematics, Pythagorean Theorem, Deep Learning Approach, Learning Outcomes

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of curriculum changes on teacher self-efficacy in implementing in-depth learning at SMAN 6 Aceh Barat Daya. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive design. The research subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique, namely teachers who have participated in in-depth learning socialization and training. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed interactively through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of in-depth learning based on the principles of meaningful, mindful, and joyful has been attempted by teachers but has not been optimal due to limited teaching aids and student concentration in adapting from the lecture method. The level of teacher self-efficacy also shows variations, namely adaptive-collaborative, intermediate influenced by student conditions, and skepticism towards repeated changes in curriculum policies. The conclusion of this study shows that curriculum changes have an impact on the process of adapting teacher self-efficacy in implementing in-depth learning. The success of curriculum implementation is not only determined by teachers' pedagogical competence, but is also influenced by support for collaboration between teachers, ongoing training, and the availability of school facilities and infrastructure.   Keywords: Curriculum, Deep Learning, Teacher's Self-Efficacy

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and synthesize empirical evidence regarding the implementation and effectiveness of the ethnomathematics-oriented Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students' critical thinking skills. The method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the collection of 20 primary study articles from reputable national and international databases (Sinta and Scopus). The results of the qualitative synthesis indicate that the implementation of this PBL model focuses on the use of local cultural objects or practices (e.g., temple architecture, batik patterns, or traditional houses) as authentic problems in the problem orientation and investigation stages of PBL. Based on the analysis of the 20 articles, the quantitative Normalized Gain analysis of the selected studies consistently shows an increase in critical thinking skills in the moderate to high category (0.62–0.81). It can be concluded that the synergy between PBL as a methodological structure and ethnomathematics as an authentic context is a highly effective learning strategy and has been empirically proven in developing students' analytical, inferential, and evaluation skills, which are the core of critical thinking.   Keywords: PBL, Ethnomathematics, Critical Thinking, Literature Review

Abstract

This study aim to examine how level of Suspendet Particulate Matter (SPM) in the atmosphere and the chemical composition of rainwater vary due to seasonal influences during the 2020-2024 period at Semarang Central Java. Combined Principal Component Analisys (PCA) and wind direction mapping are used to track pollution patterns. This approach helps identify the primary sources of pollutans and understand their movement patterns during the rainy season compared to the dry season. The result show that SPM contrations are significantly higher during the dry season, with an average of 151.12 µg/m3, compared to the rainy season, which has an average of 107,25 µg/m3, due to reduced cleansing by rain and fewer rainfall events. Chemical analysis of rainwater revealed higher ion concentrations during the dry season, with NH4+ and SO42- dominating, whereas the rainy season was characterized by marine ions (Na+, Cl-) along with SO42-. PCA analysis identified two principal components for both seasons, explaining more than 80% of the total variance. During the rainy season, the dominant source is marine aerosols (PC1: 46.82%), while secondary anthropogenic sources form the second component. The dry season shows a complex mixture of marine, terrestrial, and biomass burning sources (PC1: 57.81%), with secondary anthropogenic aerosols remaining a consistent contributor. Windrose analysis confirms that westerly winds during the Asian monsoon season transport marine influences during the rainy season, while easterly winds during the Australian monsoon season transport terrestrial pollutants during the dry season. This demonstrates that the monsoon system acts as the primary controlling factor for air quality and atmospheric deposition in the study region.   Keywords: Monsoon, PCA, Pollutans Rainwater, SPM
