Abstract

Graphic design and publication are important competencies students need in the digital era, especially for creating promotional media and self-branding. SMAN 2 Meulaboh has adequate facilities to support this, but they have not been optimized. The lack of competent teaching staff in graphic design and publication is a major obstacle. As an effort to overcome this problem, we from the Communication Science Study Program at Teuku Umar University provided graphic design and publication services, including banner design, using Adobe Photoshop. Socialization, demonstration, discussion, testing, competition, and appreciation were employed as methods in this program, following the Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating (PIE) stages, involving 15 students from class XI at SMAN 2 Meulaboh. The pre-test results showed that only 17% (3 out of 15) of students knew about graphic design and publication. However, after the service was carried out, the team rechecked the post-test, and the results showed that 87% (13 out of 15) students knew about graphics and publication and could even apply their knowledge directly. This shows that the community service carried out increased students' knowledge, skills, art, and interest in graphic design and publication, especially in the use of Adobe Photoshop for creating banners. Furthermore, it is hoped that this service can be carried out continuously and periodically to achieve maximum results.

Abstract

Urban problems are becoming increasingly complex, primarily due to rapid population growth, leading to the conversion of agricultural land into residential, industrial, and office areas. Dependence on food supplies from outside the city makes food prices unstable and vulnerable to disruptions. This research aims to address food security issues in urban areas with limited vacant land. It employs the Community-Based Research (CBR) method, emphasizing active community participation in all stages, from planning to implementation. This approach aligns with delivering relevant, sustainable solutions for the community. Researchers conducted direct field observations of urban farming processes and interviewed stakeholders. The results were used to draw conclusions and answer research questions. The urban farming program in Pedalangan Village has shown that with the right approach, active community participation, and government support, it can be a sustainable solution to meet local food needs, preserve the environment, and improve quality of life. However, it faces challenges such as limited land, restricted plant varieties and quantities, and time constraints due to residents' busy lives.

Abstract

An automatic monkey detection and repellent system based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and a Raspberry Pi was developed to address crop damage caused by monkeys in Sugie Village, Karimun district. The system uses a webcam to detect monkeys within a radius of up to 50 meters and emits gunshot sounds audible up to 200 meters to automatically repel them. Solar panels power the system because the area has access to electricity only at night. The implementation of this device yielded significant results, reducing crop damage from an average of 9 damaged plants per visit to only 3, equivalent to a 66.7% decrease. Additionally, the solar panels provided lighting for the agricultural area, improving security and accessibility at night by 100%. This technology offers an effective and efficient solution compared to manual methods, which require constant monitoring. The project leverages modern innovation relevant to local needs by integrating renewable energy with image-based detection technology. This project has the potential to be replicated in other regions facing similar issues, supporting food security and improving rural communities.

Abstract

One of the emergency complications that usually occurs is hypertension. Physical exercise, such as Anti-Hypertension Exercises, is one of the efforts needed to control blood pressure and reduce the risk of complications. This program aims to improve community understanding and skills in controlling blood pressure through activity training (anti-hypertension exercises) to prevent hypertension-related emergencies. A health education method that provided education, demonstration, and practice of Anti-Hypertension Exercises together was carried out with 48 people with hypertension in the Kebagusan area, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta. The results of the activity showed an increase in public knowledge and attitudes about preventing hypertension emergencies through Anti-Hypertension Exercises and changes in blood pressure, both systolic, diastolic, and MAP, before and after the activity. It is hoped that Anti-Hypertension Exercises activities can be carried out consistently so that blood pressure can be controlled and reduce the risk of complications of hypertension emergencies.
