Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse on the impact of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States on Indonesia as presented in KompasTV news reports using Teun A. Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. This analysis focuses on the macro, superstructure, and micro structures of discourse to reveal how KompasTV represents the issues and ideologies underlying the news report. The US reciprocal tariffs have a significant impact on Indonesia-US trade relations, affecting export performance and national industrial strategies in response to the tariff policy. The mass media, especially television as a visual and audio medium, plays an important role in shaping public opinion through news framing patterns that can support or oppose the policy. This study explores how KompasTV's use of language and narrative shapes public perception and drives socio-political dynamics in news coverage. The results of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of the media in shaping public opinion on international economic issues and serve as an important reference for policymakers and further research in the field of critical discourse analysis.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has given rise to new cultures that are starting to be recognized by the public. One of them is the Korean Wave phenomenon. Currently, many local beauty and facial care brands are utilizing this Korean Wave phenomenon by releasing advertisements starring Korean artists as celebrity endorsers on social media. One is Avoskin, which released an ad with celebrity endorser Park Hyung Sik on Instagram @avoskinbeauty. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of advertising appeal (X1) and the credibility of celebrity endorser Park Hyung Sik (X2) on purchase intention in Avoskin products (Y) and how much it affects. The theory used is the Cognitive Response Theory by George E. Belch and Michael E. Belch. This research method is a survey method with an explanatory-type quantitative approach. The population in this study were followers of the @avoskinbeauty Instagram account, with a sample size of 100 people. This research uses nonprobability sampling with a purposive sampling method. Advertising appeal and the credibility of celebrity endorser Park Hyung Sik have a significant effect on purchase intention in Avoskin products, which is 74 percent while the remaining 26 percent.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development communication patterns at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School in West Jakarta, identify strategies for strengthening santri’s digital literacy and entrepreneurship, and formulate an applicable development communication model based on digital santri. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions (FGDs), allowing for an in-depth exploration of communication practices and barriers to technological access within the pesantren environment. The findings reveal that development communication is participatory and dialogical, involving caregivers, administrators, and santri from program planning to implementation. Strategies for strengthening digital literacy were carried out through a project-based curriculum, entrepreneurship training, provision of shared facilities, and the creation of a competitive ecosystem. The novelty of this research lies in the design of a development communication model for digital santri in the form of an Integrated Communication Matrix, which integrates hierarchical structures, Islamic values, and the creative participation of santri. This model fills the gap in the literature on pesantren-based development communication in the digital era and offers practical solutions to enhance literacy, economic independence, and the competitiveness of santri, while also being replicable in other pesantren.

Abstract

This study examines the context collapse that occurs in digital health campaigns that intersect with the media literacy of social media users. The reality of context collapse is observed in the interaction of the Insta story question and answer column archived in the Instagram account highlights of health workers. Interviews were conducted with key informants who are media literacy practitioners, child development therapists, and communication teachers. The results of the study show that the context on social media can be collapsed by both the uploader and the content user. Both are communicators who take turns exchanging messages in a virtual face-to-face interaction. Social media followers are random audiences, so their behavior towards an upload, including child health education content, still carries the risk of triggering a reactive response even from a health professional. The key to navigating context collapse on social media is first, refraining from certain behaviors on social media, second, building boundaries for certain activities on social media. These two steps are taken to avoid unnecessary, inappropriate reactions that can obscure or even thwart the initial purpose of communication designed on social media.

Abstract

This study develops a model for strengthening citizen journalism through local communities as a form of public participation in transparent and accountable governance. The research addresses the increasing public role in disseminating information amid rapid technological growth, which often lacks structured support and leads to misinformation. Using a qualitative descriptive case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically with triangulation for validity. The findings indicate that strengthening citizen journalism through local communities relies on three main pillars: (1) an inclusive and coordinated community organization, (2) an integrated two-way communication system between citizens and government (G2C), and (3) local government support through media literacy training, verification mechanisms, and legal protection. Case studies of Radio KDS 8 and Community Information Groups (KIM) in Malang demonstrate that empowered local communities effectively channel public aspirations, verify information, and serve as communicative bridges between citizens and government. The proposed model offers a strategic policy framework to promote participatory governance, enhance digital democracy resilience, and build public trust. Theoretically and practically, it contributes to improving information accountability, reducing misinformation, and strengthening citizen engagement in local governance.

Abstract

The film Anne Boleyn (2021) recounts the historical narrative focusing on the tragic final years of Anne Boleyn, the Queen of England, from 1533 to 1536. However, controversy arose due to the inclusion of several black actors in roles deemed inconsistent with an accurate representation of a medieval-themed film portraying a non-fictional historical figure. This research aims to unveil the deconstruction strategies applied to historical facts in the 'Anne Boleyn' (2021). Data were gathered from literature and the film, and the analysis employed Derrida's textual deconstruction theory. The findings reveal film presents a narrative of deconstruction primarily through the practice of blackwashing, by casting a Black actress to portray the historically White figure of Anne Boleyn. This illustrates deconstructive elements characterized by fluidity in describing characters in an attempt to reinterpret history and expand interpretations of the past. Moreover, this narrative is not devoid of efforts to enhance the visibility of black representation in the film industry, particularly within Hollywood cinema.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s concept of kodrat alam (the law of nature) with the social media phenomenon #KaburAjaDulu, which has recently gained popularity among Indonesia’s Generation Z. The research employed a qualitative content analysis using a critical discourse analysis approach, drawing data from 50 online news articles discussing the hashtag. The finding sreveal that #KaburAjaDulu originated from the disappointment and protest of young people toward government policies perceived as unfavorable to the public particularly those involving budget cuts in education and health sectors to fund new programs with uncertain outcomes. This phenomenon reflects a social reality in which many young Indonesians choose to work or pursue education abroad, believing such opportunities to be more promising and adequate. Based on Ki Hajar Dewantara’s concept of kodrat alam, this condition indicates a mismatch between individuals’ potential and their social environment, which should ideally serve as a space for self-development. Therefore, the government needs to promote programs that foster self-recognition and personal potential among students to enhance their competitiveness and contribution within the country. Through such efforts, individuals can discover their talents and meaningful career paths in Indonesia, without feeling the need to “escape” abroad.
