Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women in Indonesia. The VIA examination is important for early detection, but the participation of women of childbearing age is still low, partly due to the lack of interpersonal support from husbands, family, health workers, and friends. To determine the relationship between interpersonal support (husband, family, health workers, and friends) and motivation of WUS members of PCA Aisyiyah Gumelar to undergo VIA examination. This quantitative research uses a correlation study design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 82 women of childbearing age (WUS) was taken using total sampling techniques. Data was collected through an interpersonal support questionnaire including husband, family, health workers, friends, and motivation, with a research time frame of May 31, 2025, and analyzed using the Spearman rank test (α = 0.05) and logistic regression. The results show a significant relationship between interpersonal support and the motivation of WUS. Support from husbands (p = 0.000; r = 0.533), support from family (p = 0.000; r = 0.614), support from health workers (p = 0.000; r = 0.485), and support from friends (p = 0.000; r = 0.491). Interpersonal support from husbands, family members, healthcare workers, and peers is significantly associated with motivation to undergo VIA screening. These findings indicate statistical associations rather than causal relationships.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, including gastrointestinal cancer, which continues to increase in prevalence. One contributing risk factor is long-term alcohol consumption. This study aims to determine the relationship between alcohol consumption and the incidence of gastrointestinal cancer. The study design used a scoping review through four databases, namely ScienceDirect, PubMed, SpringerLink, and Medline. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, with the screening process following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The selected articles were then synthesized using the Guidance for Conducting Systematic Scoping Review (2020) guidelines. A total of seven articles met the criteria. Various types of gastrointestinal cancer related to alcohol consumption were found, including colorectal, esophageal, stomach, and liver cancer, and even breast cancer. Most studies examined current and past patterns of alcohol consumption. Overall, the findings of this study prove that alcohol consumption, whether in the past, present, or cumulative, is associated with an increased incidence of gastrointestinal cancer, especially colorectal cancer.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a major public health problem with a continuously increasing prevalence, requiring accurate and continuous blood glucose monitoring. Venous blood glucose measurement using enzymatic methods remains the clinical gold standard; however, it is invasive and less practical for routine monitoring. Recent advances in sensor technology provide opportunities to develop more practical and user-friendly glucose monitoring devices. This preliminary pilot study aimed to develop and validate a needle-free sensor-based device for blood glucose monitoring and to evaluate the agreement of its measurement results with venous blood glucose examination using enzymatic methods as the reference standard. This study employed a research and development approach. The initial stage involved designing and developing a prototype sensor that monitors blood glucose without a needle. Device validation was conducted by experts to assess technical performance, safety, and usability. Subsequently, a pilot measurement of random blood glucose levels was performed among 25 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a primary healthcare setting, and the measurement results were compared with venous blood glucose values obtained using enzymatic methods. The validation results indicated that the device was technically feasible, safe to use, and easy to operate. Pilot testing demonstrated that the sensor-based device produced blood glucose measurements comparable to those from the reference method (Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test: Z = 0.000, p = 1.000), providing preliminary evidence of statistical similarity. However, further refinement is required, particularly in the interpretation and display of measurement results. These findings represent initial proof-of-concept for the device as an alternative tool for blood glucose monitoring, especially in primary healthcare settings and for patient self-monitoring. Comprehensive studies with larger, more diverse samples and advanced clinical agreement analyses (Bland-Altman plots, and MARD) are needed to confirm clinical accuracy and reliability.

Abstract

The stability of healthcare around the world is seriously threatened by nurse turnover intention, which is a primary predictor of actual turnover. The necessity to comprehend contributing elements is highlighted by the 47.7% new nurse turnover rate in Korea, which costs over USD 33,733 per nurse. This comprehensive review synthesizes quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods evidence to map factors that influence nurse turnover intention across hospital settings. Using a PRISMA-ScR approach, a literature search for "factors of nurse turnover" in Scopus produced 2,274 articles; 13 of these met inclusion criteria and were subjected to thematic analysis. Four primary areas were identified: leadership style (transformational, toxic, bullying), psychosocial aspects (work-life balance, job satisfaction, distress, and social support), and organizational factors (work environment, mentorship). Work-life balance and job satisfaction reduce risk by 30–40%, while a supportive work environment and adequate resources reduce turnover by 10–20%. While toxic or bullying leadership significantly raises turnover intention (β=0.51), transformational leadership enhances retention by 0.082 per unit. There are significant regional differences; for instance, 81.4% of Kenyan nurses plan to quit because their pay is less than $500 USD, which increases the probability of turnover three to five times. The use of cross-sectional research (76.9%) and the lack of worldwide representation are examples of gaps in the literature. To increase retention, holistic approaches that incorporate transformational leadership training, mental health assistance, healthy workplaces, and equitable pay are crucial.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic growth disorder in children under five years old caused by prolonged malnutrition and inadequate nutritional intake. Several factors contribute to stunting, including poor parenting practices, low maternal education, limited family income, and irregular attendance at community health services such as Posyandu. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parenting patterns and adherence to Posyandu visits with the incidence of stunting among children aged 12–59 months in Putatkumpul Village, Turi District, Lamongan Regency. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 127 parents with toddlers selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires assessing parenting patterns and adherence to Posyandu visits, while stunting status was determined using child growth charts. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rho test in SPSS version 22.0 with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings revealed that 14.5% of respondents with an authoritative parenting style had stunted children. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between parenting patterns and stunting incidence (p = 0.010; rs = 0.228), indicating a weak correlation. Furthermore, all respondents with high adherence to Posyandu visits had non-stunted children. A significant relationship was also found between adherence to Posyandu visits and stunting incidence (p = 0.009; rs = 0.230), indicating a weak correlation. Although parenting practices and Posyandu attendance are not direct causes of stunting, both contribute to early detection of growth problems and support optimal child nutrition. Therefore, health education regarding appropriate parenting and the importance of regular Posyandu visits is essential to improve stunting prevention efforts at the community level.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health issue, contributing substantially to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. While pharmacological treatment is well established, interest in non-pharmacological interventions such as heat therapy and wearable heating devices including thermal footwear has increased. However, the research landscape on these interventions has not been systematically examined. This study analyzed global research trends on heat therapy and hypertension from 2000 to 2025 using bibliometric methods, emphasizing wearable technologies. Scopus-indexed publications were identified following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A total of 133 studies met inclusion criteria. Bibliometric indicators were analyzed using VOSviewer to assess publication growth, major contributors, collaboration networks, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence, supported by visualization maps. Research output increased steadily, peaking with 20 publications in 2025. Three thematic clusters were identified: population health, physiological function, and thermal/vascular interventions, showing a shift toward focused physiological and interventional research. Wearable heating devices remain underrepresented in the literature, indicating a research gap and highlighting their potential for future hypertension management.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a major occupational health concern among nurses, contributing to pain, disability, absenteeism, and increased healthcare costs. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ergonomic interventions in preventing MSDs among nurses and to identify key implementation factors. The review followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A systematic search was conducted across four databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and CINAHL) for studies published between 2019 and 2025. Randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies were included, and methodological quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist. Due to heterogeneity in interventions and outcomes, findings were synthesized narratively. Ten studies involving 1,875 nurses were included. Multimodal ergonomic interventions combining training, assistive devices, and organizational support demonstrated the strongest effects. Equipment-based interventions significantly reduced back injuries when compliance was high, while educational programs improved ergonomic knowledge with variable clinical outcomes. Technology-assisted interventions showed promising results in reducing MSD incidence. Overall, ergonomic interventions are effective in reducing MSD risk among nurses, particularly when implemented through comprehensive and well-supported programs. Organizational readiness and resource availability are critical for successful implementation. Future research should focus on long-term outcomes and implementation strategies.

Abstract

The golden age is a critical phase of brain architecture formation that determines the future quality of child growth and development. Early detection of developmental disorders is often delayed due to an exclusive focus on physical indicators, such as stunting, without the adequate integration of neurobiological monitoring. This study aims to analyze the reciprocal relationship between child growth and brain development as a conceptual foundation for developing strategies for the early detection of developmental disorders. This study employed a literature review design with a thematic approach, utilizing Scopus and PubMed databases for articles published between 2021 and 2025. The analysis involved selecting 11 final articles that met the inclusion criteria based on the PRISMA flow diagram. The analysis identified three main themes: the impact of nutritional status and stunting on brain architecture, instruments and technologies for early detection, and the effectiveness of early stimulation interventions. Data synthesis indicates that physical recovery alone is insufficient to restore lost cognitive function without intensive brain development stimulation. This review concludes that stunting reflects structural brain deficits rather than mere physical growth retardation, rendering the separation of nutritional monitoring and neuroscience obsolete. We recommend a paradigm shift toward an integrated brain-protection model that incorporates neurodevelopmental screening technologies into primary care starting from the prenatal phase. Enhancing health professionals' competence in neurobehavioral assessment is crucial to ensure timely interventions during the critical window of brain plasticity.

Abstract

Pressure ulcers are a serious health problem that serve as an indicator of hospital service quality. Proper management and prevention are important for reducing the impact and supporting infection control. If not handled appropriately and promptly, pressure ulcers can become a serious threat to patients, especially for those in total care. There is a need for an efficient and effective innovation to prevent pressure ulcers, one of which is the application of pressure ulcer prevention bundle care. This study aims to describe how well nurses implement a care bundle designed to prevent pressure ulcers in patients who require total care. This research belongs to a quantitative study with a descriptive design. The sample consisted of 34 respondents using a total sampling technique. Data analysis used univariate analysis and frequency distribution tables. The frequency distribution of respondents’ age was mostly in the adult category, with 29 respondents (85.3%). Gender was mostly in the female category with 31 respondents (91.2%). Education was mostly in the Diploma III in Nursing category, with 28 respondents (82.4%). Work experience was mostly in the category of more than 3 years, with 32 respondents (94.1%). The category of bundle care implementation for pressure ulcer prevention was mostly in the good category with 23 respondents (67.6%) and fairly good in 11 respondents (32.4%). The implementation of bundle care for pressure ulcer prevention among total care patients at RSUD Muntilan was mostly carried out well by nurses. To ensure that all nurses implement bundle care optimally, we need to improve consistency and conduct periodic evaluations.

Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem in Indonesia, with increasing prevalence, while efforts to maintain it are still lacking. National health research data shows a prevalence of 34.11%, and the current prevalence in Indonesia has reached 45.9%, which is considered high. This study aims to examine the role of health cadres in intervening in elderly hypertension. We compare the blood pressure of elderly who received the intervention and the control group. The research method used a paired t-test in the intervention group, and the control group was conducted by cadres. We compared the results of elderly blood pressure measured by health cadres with the intervention group without education as a control. The results in the intervention group for elderly hypertension were p = 0.0002, while in the control group, p = 0.040. This means that both groups experienced a decrease in blood pressure in elderly hypertension in the intervention and control groups. However, a significant decrease occurred in the intervention group. This means that cadres providing education to elderly hypertension quickly reduce blood pressure compared to those who did not receive education. Therefore, the role of cadres is very important in reducing the prevalence of hypertension control.
