Abstract

Background: The biggest cause of death and a major contributor to disability globally is coroner's artery disease (CAD).  Chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) is a term that can be used to describe a wide variety of CAD clinical manifestations in clinical settings. Non-HDL-C is advised as a routine component of lipid analysis for risk assessment in patients with elevated plasma TGs. Conflicting results have been yielded as Non-HDL-C is a better marker comparing LDL-C.Objective: The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship of Non-HDL-C levels with the incidence of CCS in conjunction with LDL-C testing in a clinical setting. Methods: Observational analytical research with a cross-sectional design was conducted in Muhammadiyah Palembang Hospital from October to December 2019. Simple random sampling techniques were used to select 89 patients who met the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. Non-HDL-C and LDL-C calculations based on routine lipid testing. The Chi-Square test with a significant p-value <0,005 was used for bivariate analysis. Results: There is a statistically significant association between non-HDL-C levels and the incidence of CCS (p=0,001), as well as a significant association between LDL-C and CCS incidents (p=0,009).  Conclusion: Non-HDL-C provide additional benefits in identifying CAD risk factors in outpatients with CCS patient as well as LDL-C

Abstract

Background:  Alcohol can cause damage to the gastric mucosal barrier and reverse diffusion of HCL which results in damage to gastric tissue. The flavonoids in red ginger act as exogenous antioxidants which can ward off free radicals which reduce damage to the gastric mucosa caused by alcohol. Objective: To determine the differences in the histopathology of the rats gastric induced by 40% ethanol after administration of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) extract at graded doses. Methods: A post-test only group design method. 25 rats samples were divided into 5 groups: K(-) standard feed; K(+) ethanol 40% 1.8ml/200g/day; P1 red ginger extract 250mg/KgBW; P2 red ginger extract 500mg/KgBW; and P3 red ginger extract 750mg/KgBW. After 60 minutes, 40% ethanol was given at a dose of 1.8ml/200g/day. Treatment was carried out for 30 days, then on day 31 termination was carried out and gastric histopathology preparations were made with hematoxylin-eosin staining. Calculation of hull damage scores using the Barthel-Manja criteria. Analysis of differences in gastric mucosal damage between groups using the Kruskal Wallis Test and Mann Withney Test. Results: The difference between groups obtained significant results (p=0.003). There were significant differences between the K- and K+ groups (p=0.016), the K- and P1 groups (p=0.032), between the K- and P2 groups (p=0.032), between the K+ and P3 groups (p =0.032). Conclusion: Administration of red ginger extract at a dose of 750mg/KgBW was proven to be effective in preventing damage to the gastric mucosa induced by 40% ethanol.

Abstract

Background: Clinically, hand dermatitis manifests as either irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) or allergy contact dermatitis (ACD). Patients with hand dermatitis typically use emollients to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).Objective: This investigation aims to evaluate the efficacy of emollient topical therapy on hand dermatitis. Methods: The study's design was based on a literature review, and the research samples were obtained through online searches on Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Results: 495 items were subsequently excluded based on the restriction criteria. We obtained eight research articles for evaluation. Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI), TEWL, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Health-related quality of life (HRQoL), Modified Total Lesion Symptom Score (mTLSS), Investigator Global Assessment (IGA), and Visual analog score (VAS) were used to measure hand dermatitis, and there was a significant increase in these measurements for emollients. In the conclusion of the eight articles, six stated that they were significant, and two stated that emollients were effectively used as topical therapy. Conclusion: Emollients typically act on the epidermis, particularly the stratum corneum, which can reduce TEWL so that antigen penetration and inflammation spread are not facilitated.

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of polysebaceous follicles characterized by lesions that include blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. The prevalence of acne vulgaris is most significant among adolescents aged 15 to 18. In mild and moderate acne vulgaris, topical treatment enhances skin conditions. It is believed that the ability of salicylic acid to reach the stratum corneum, which exfoliates due to its comedolytic properties, aids in the healing of acne vulgaris. Objective: Evaluate the efficacy of salicylic acid as a treatment for mild and moderate acne vulgaris. Methods: This study's design involved a literature search using the terms acne vulgaris and salicylic acid in Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. Results: The investigation found 108 articles were discovered and excluded based on the restriction criteria; 8 articles were reviewed. Salicylic acid substantially improved mild and moderate acne, according to all studies. Improvement was measured based on the lesion's severity, the lesion type, and Goodman's qualitative global scarring grading system. There is an improvement in inflammatory, non-inflammatory, and hyperpigmented lesions. Conclusion: Salicylic acid is clinically beneficial for mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

Abstract

Background: Ileus occurs when there is a non-mechanical decrease or stoppage of the flow of intestinal contents. The cause of ileus has yet to be clearly defined. Various factors influence the risk for an ileus, each affecting a small part of the complex neuroimmune system. The patient will present with bloating and abdominal distension. Plain abdominal films and computed tomography (CT) scans of the abdomen are usually the first diagnostic imaging obtained. The most important principle for treating ileus is treating the underlying cause. Treating the infection, electrolyte abnormalities, and decreasing opiate use can all potentially decrease the durability of an ileus. Anesthesia procedures must be performed to treat patients preoperatively, during surgery, and postoperatively. Enhanced recovery protocols, regional anesthesia, opioid-sparing analgesics, and laparoscopy have all improved the number of postoperative ileus cases.Case Presentation: The following is a 67-year-old male patient who presents with abdominal pain with a scale of 4 out of 10, diagnosed with ileus, which was planned for laparotomy surgery by general anesthesia with supine position. Conclusion:We conclude that anesthetic procedures are critical in ileus patients in performing laparotomy operations, both in selecting anesthetic techniques, anesthetic drugs, and supporting scores (Aldrete score). Before induction, anesthesiologists must carefully assess preoperative and monitor postoperative

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is still a major health problem in the world today because the prevalence remains increasing. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, accounting for over 90% of all diabetes cases. This disease is characterized by insulin resistance, where the body cannot fully respond to insulin. As a result, glucose levels in the blood continue to increase (hyperglycemia). The main of Type 2 DM management is a healthy lifestyle. In addition, pharmacological therapy is also needed to keep blood glucose levels in diabetics under control. However, antidiabetic medicines can cause some side effects. Therefore, the development of alternative diabetes therapy has been done to minimize side effects. One of the herbal ingredients that are being studied for its potential as an anti-diabetic is noni (Morinda citrifolia L.).Objective: The aim of the study is to review and find out more about the potential of noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) as an anti-diabetic.Methods: This research is included in the type of literature review. The kinds of literature are English and Indonesian language research articles related to the topic searched by using database sources from ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The research articles were published in the last 10 years (2012 to 2022). Results: There are 14 kinds of literature that match the topic of study. A total of 12 kinds of literature are in vivo studies on animals and 2 literature studies on humans. The result shows that noni has an antidiabetic effect by lowering blood glucose levels and improving other parameters. Parts of Noni that have the potential to control Type 2 DM are fruit and leaves, which can be in the form of extracts, juices, or fermented products. Further research is needed to evaluate the toxicity, the content of active compounds, and the expression of genes related to Type 2 DM for ensuring the mechanism of noni in controlling hyperglycemia. Human studies with more respondents are also needed to confirm the findings of existing studies. Conclusion: Noni has an antidiabetic effect by lowering blood glucose levels and improving other parameters. Based on human studies, noni fruit juice can serve as a suitable addition to the diet of Type 2 DM patients.

Abstract

Background:  Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) was increasing per year. In Indonesia reached 550.000 cases per year. Ten to fifteen percent are types of CVA bleeding (CVA-B). Death and disability as complications of CVA-B are more often compared to an ischemic type. Early diagnosis of CVA-B is key to decreasing it’s complications. Unfortunately, diagnosis of early CVA-B requires excellent effort and spending more expense when using an advanced CT scan. Previous research has shown a relationship between leucocyte count and CVA, but there is no adequate data relating leukocyte count and mean arterial pressure (MAP) with bleeding volume in CVA-B patients. Objective: This study aimed to answer whether Leukocyte count combined with MAP can be a choice to diagnose CVA-B at an early stage. Methods: Analytic observational research was conducted with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was all patients with CVA intracerebral bleeding at Ulin Hospital of Banjarmasin. The patient's medical records and CT scans were used to assess the bleeding volume. The number of leukocytes and the patient's mean arterial pressure were tabulated and analyzed to their relationship with bleeding volume. Results: In this study, there was a significant relationship between the number of leukocytes and the volume of intracerebral hemorrhage (r=0.801, p=0.000). There was no significant relationship between the MAP and the volume of intracerebral hemorrhage (r=0,17, p=0,361)Conclusion: There is a strong relationship with a significant relationship between the number of leukocytes and the volume of bleeding in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage but no relationship with MAP.
