Abstract

Indonesia is entering the aging population period, characterized by an increase in life expectancy and the growing number of elderly individuals. One of the prevalent health issues among the elderly is dementia, which imposes a significant stress burden on caregivers. This study aims to explore family resilience in caregivers of elderly individuals with dementia. A qualitative approach using a case study method was employed. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling, data validity was ensured through source triangulation, and data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that both families exhibited similar resilience dynamics, characterized by a belief system emphasizing a positive perspective on the situation and reliance on faith in God. Organizational patterns displayed flexibility and the provision of support. The family dynamics of Subject EM were more flexible compared to Subject NR, while the support received by both subjects played a critical role in fostering family resilience. Communication processes were stronger in Subject EM’s family compared to Subject NR’s, yet communication in both families contributed to the overall resilience dynamics. In conclusion, this study indicates that family resilience is established through a belief system, organizational flexibility, support, and effective communication.

Abstract

Skin diseases are a significant health problem worldwide, including Indonesia, with a higher prevalence in developing countries. This study aims to explore the picture of public knowledge regarding the high incidence of skin diseases in the coastal area of Belawan, Medan City. The method used was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design, involving 70 respondents from the local community. The results showed that more than 50% of respondents had sufficient knowledge about skin diseases, although there were still groups who did not understand this condition, especially residents who work as fishermen aged 41-50 years. Knowledge about the prevention and treatment of skin diseases is closely related to healthy living behavior, where education is an important factor in increasing public awareness. In addition, easy access to information through technology and health education has been shown to contribute to improving individual understanding of skin diseases. Therefore, collaboration between the government, health institutions, and communities is needed to provide accurate and easily accessible information. A more educated community will be better able to maintain their skin health and reduce the prevalence of skin diseases in their environment. This study emphasizes the importance of increasing knowledge and access to information as a strategic step in efforts to prevent skin diseases in coastal areas.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which has been recognized as a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). Despite widespread prevention and treatment programs, tuberculosis control continues to face challenges, particularly due to insufficient public knowledge about effective preventive measures. This study aims to compare the level of knowledge about tuberculosis between medical students and business economics students at Yarsi University. This study used a descriptive comparative quantitative design involving 183 respondents, consisting of 121 medical students and 62 business economics students class of 2021. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions related to tuberculosis and grouped into three knowledge categories: good, sufficient, lacking. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test due to abnormal data distribution. The results showed a significant difference in the level of knowledge about tuberculosis between the two groups (p < 0.05). Medical students showed a higher level of knowledge, with 100% being in the good category, compared to 75.8% in business economics students. This study highlights the importance of structured education in influencing knowledge levels and recommends targeted health education for non-medical students. This study confirms the role of education in raising awareness about tuberculosis and supports the integration of health knowledge into non-medical curricula to support public health.

Abstract

Patient satisfaction is a critical indicator for assessing the quality of nursing services in hospitals, particularly in general surgery wards, where high-quality services can enhance recovery and reduce complications. In Indonesia, research on patient satisfaction in general surgery wards is limited, while patient visitation rates continue to rise annually. Therefore, understanding the factors influencing patient satisfaction is essential for improving nursing services. This study aims to evaluate the inpatient satisfaction levels with nursing services in the general surgery ward of Puruk Cahu Regional General Hospital. The research design is a descriptive quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach, involving all patients hospitalized in the general surgery ward during the study period. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire adapted from the five Servqual dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The data analysis technique used is univariate descriptive to understand the distribution of patient satisfaction levels. The results show that the assurance and empathy dimensions have the highest satisfaction levels, while tangibles received the lowest scores, indicating a need for improvement in the hospital's physical facilities. Overall, most patients are satisfied with the services provided, but there is still a need for improvements in certain aspects to enhance the patient experience. In conclusion, patient satisfaction with nursing services in the general surgery ward of Puruk Cahu Regional General Hospital is generally good, with a need for improvement in the tangibles and communication dimensions. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for hospital management to enhance the quality of nursing services through facility improvements and enhanced communication skills of the nursing staff.

Abstract

When students are in class XII, students experience stress in determining their future. There are also students who are under pressure from their parents' wishes in determining their college major. This research aims to manage stress experienced by students through Strategy-Coping, and to see the influence of Self-Esteem on Psychological-Well-Being through Strategy-Coping. The research used quantitative methods by distributing questionnaires to 200 class XII students at SMA Negeri Medan. The scales used are: 1) Adolecents-COPE (Patterson & McCubbin) 2) Psychological-Well-Being (Ryff) 3) Self-Esteem (Rosenberg). Data analysis using SPSS 26 for Windows software. The calculated r value in a 2-sided test with a Siq. of 0.05 and a number of respondents of 200 is 0.1388. The validity test results stated that 55 items had a calculated r_value > 0.1388, all items were declared valid. All instruments were declared reliable because the results of the Statistical Reliability test showed a Cronbach Alpha value of <0.888 or a value of >0.6. Heeroscedasticity test results show that heteroscedasticity does not occur because the Siq values for all variables are > 0.05. The results of the hypothesis test show that Strategy-Coping mediates the relationship between Self-Esteem and Psychological-Well-Being, so that the influence of Self-Esteem on Psychological-Well-Being becomes stronger after being mediated by Strategy-Coping. The results of research on class XII students of Medan State High School showed high Self-Esteem and Psychological-Well-Being in students. High Self-Esteem is the way a person views, appreciates and loves themselves well and can influence high Psychological Well-Being (PWB) so that a person has a positive, balanced and sustainable life and has a positive attitude towards themselves and other people, so they can manage and control stress through Strategy-Coping. The results of students' Problem-focused-coping were higher than Emotional-focused-coping.

Abstract

Access to dental services is critical in determining public health status, yet significant disparities persist, especially in remote areas. This literature review explores the impact of limited access to dental care on public health. The review methodology involved analyzing recent studies addressing the various factors—economic, geographical, and social determinants—influencing access to dental services in different communities. The results indicate that individuals with restricted access to dental care are more prone to oral diseases, which can lead to a decline in overall health and quality of life. Furthermore, these communities often face higher treatment costs due to the need for more complex procedures when issues are untreated for extended periods. The findings highlight that limited access to dental services increases the burden on healthcare systems and exacerbates inequalities in health outcomes. In conclusion, improving access to dental services, particularly in underserved and rural areas, is essential to mitigate the negative effects of oral diseases, reduce healthcare costs, and improve public health outcomes in the long term. Addressing these disparities is crucial for promoting equitable health opportunities for all.
