Abstract

Engku Puteri Square is an open field which is usually called "Alun-Alun”, located next to the mayor's office of Batam which was originally planned as a public open space and venue for the ceremony ground of the Batam City civil servants. The concept of structuring the city square in several cities in Indonesia has been started since a long time ago, the city square has a potential role to be one of the city identities. This is important because we are now experiencing an identity crisis, especially in the field of architecture or urban planning.Engku Puteri square became a different public space when in 2003 the Municipality of Batam decided to construct the fence around the square area, especially when the Alun-Alun was decided to be the location for the implementation of the National MTQ when the Riau Islands Province hosted the event in 2014. A few months before National Level MTQ being held, there were a large renovation done, such as the addition of towers and gates permanently. The pulpit and Astaka used as the main arena of MTQ activities are also built magnificently. The Engku Puteri, which used to have an open concept now becomes more intimate and different from the initial concept, all might be due to the lack of awareness of the public and policy makers about the concept of public open space. The purpose of this paper is to find a concept of the city square that will be compared with the existing conditions as a consideration to restore the actual function of the Engku Puteri City Square.

Abstract

Earthquake disasters have a significant impact, especially on infrastructure, socio-economy, and housing. In August 2018, there were earthquakes in Lombok; the Government then issued a reconstruction policy, especially in the housing sector. In the worst affected areas in North Lombok, the reconstruction process is targeted to be completed in March 2019, but as of February 2020, at least 7,210 houses have not been constructed. Further discussion is needed to determine the delay factors in post-disaster housing reconstruction. A qualitative approach was chosen to emphasize the benefits and information gathering by exploring the phenomenon under study. Seven informants from representatives of the Government, facilitators, and the community were selected to be interviewed regarding the delays. The data analysis used in this study used a descriptive approach by categorizing the results of the interviews according to previous research and experts. Thus, data analysis was found five issues of delay that are closely related to communication and coordination, human resources, materials and supplies, workmanship and quality, and monitoring.

Abstract

Evaluation modelling of the OT-22 steel sheet pile wall with type H-350 steel strutting reinforcement in the excavation for the foundation structure with a depth of 7.50 meters was carried out to get the value of the safety factor and wall stability. The evaluation stages include subgrade investigation using the SPT method, data collection of profile steel properties used, interpretation of soil data, staged-construction modeling using the Finite Element Method (FEM) computer application, and analysis of modeling results. From the research that has been done, the value of maximum bending moment (Mmax) is 223.8 kNm/m', the magnitude of the axial force that occurs in the strut members is 22.51 kN, 121.91 kN, and 66.10 kN respectively. The value of maximum lateral displacement (Ux) is 62.4 mm. From these results, it can be concluded that the lateral displacement (Ux) that occurs is much larger than allowable displacement (Uall) 39 mm. Thus, it is necessary to modify the existing sheet pile wall system, such as to change the dimensions of the steel sheet pile, changing the dimensions of the steel strutting, or changing the distance of the steel strutting.
