Abstract

This study departs from the phenomenon of the widespread popularity of Javanese pop songs by Denny Cak Nan, which are widely consumed by the public yet contain problematic gender representations. The lyrics of selected songs, namely Los Dol, Satru, and Sugeng Dalu, frequently depict men as victims and women as sources of conflict, thereby reinforcing patriarchal perspectives within romantic relationships. The primary objective of this research is to reveal the embedded gender inequality and to demonstrate how popular media contributes to the normalization of gender stereotypes. This study employs a qualitative method with a feminist literary criticism approach. The research subjects consist of three selected songs by Denny Cak Nan, with data collected through documentation of the song lyrics. Validation was carried out through expert triangulation involving literary practitioners, academics, and researchers, while the instruments of analysis included the examination of diction, imagery, and narrative structure. The data were analyzed using critical discourse analysis to uncover the underlying gender ideology. The findings reveal a pattern of emotional manipulation, in which male characters are portrayed as deserving sympathy due to their suffering, while the roles and agency of women are marginalized. This research concludes that these lyrics function not merely as entertainment but also as a medium of ideological reproduction that shapes public perceptions of romantic relationships. The implications highlight the urgency of media literacy and gender awareness education to foster a more critical response to ideological messages conveyed through popular cultural products.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading literacy of students and the limited interactive learning media that suit the needs of elementary school students. Reading literacy is a fundamental skill essential for elementary school students to master, particularly in fourth grade, which is the transition from basic reading to reading for comprehension. However, many students still struggle to comprehend reading content, identify main ideas, and draw conclusions from the texts they read. The purpose of this research is to produce interactive multimedia learning media supported by the Articulate Storyline application that is feasible, practical, and effective to improve reading literacy skills in historical narrative text material. The development model used includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were obtained through interviews, questionnaires, and tests with instruments in the form of questionnaire sheets and test questions. The test subjects included elementary school students in both individual and small-group trials. Data analysis techniques included quantitative descriptive analysis for feasibility and practicality (using mean scores and Likert scale interpretation) and inferential statistical analysis for effectiveness. The results of the study show that the resulting product is an interactive multimedia learning media that can improve reading literacy skills in historical narrative text material. The implication of this study is that the use of interactive multimedia learning media assisted by Articulate Storyline can be an innovative alternative in Indonesian language learning, especially in historical narrative text material, which can increase students' motivation, involvement, and reading literacy skills in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Listening skills are one of the most challenging aspects in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) because they require students to comprehend spoken input, capture meaning, and process it in real time. However, limited exposure, monotonous learning resources, and less engaging media often become obstacles for students. This study aims to analyze the significant effect of using animated movie clips as a learning medium on the listening skills of EFL students. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a post-test only control group design. The population of this study consisted of eleventh-grade students, and purposive sampling was used to select the research participants. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicate that the mean score of the experimental group (82.05) was higher than that of the control group (76.82). The hypothesis testing using a t-test revealed a significant difference after the use of animated movie clips as a learning medium in students’ listening skills. In addition, the questionnaire administered to the experimental group showed that most students responded positively to the use of animated movie clips, as they were perceived to be engaging, motivating, and helpful in understanding listening materials. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of animated movie clips has a significant effect on the listening skills of EFL students. The implications of this study suggest that teachers should integrate dynamic and authentic audio-visual media into the learning process to enhance listening comprehension and create a more interactive learning environment.

Using a mixed-method approach, data were collected from 27 international tourists through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings of this study indicate that most tourists were satisfied with both the language proficiency and service quality of tour guides in the Lovina area. The questionnaire results showed that 86.11% of responses related to language proficiency fell into the “Agree” and “Strongly Agree” categories, suggesting that tourists generally perceived the guides’ English skills as clear, professional, and effective. Key strengths included fluency, appropriate vocabulary, correct grammar, and the ability to adapt communication to different cultural backgrounds. Similarly, the majority of responses with total 89.74% about service quality were in positive category. This suggests that most participants viewed the tour guide service quality in Lovina as good and meeting their expectations. The findings indicate high satisfaction levels, particularly in aspects such as timeliness, professionalism, friendliness, responsiveness to tourist needs, clarity in delivering information about attractions, and the cleanliness and upkeep of tour vehicles and equipment.

Abstract

In the context of the Merdeka Curriculum, the evaluation paradigm has shifted from merely measuring learning outcomes to authentic assessment that emphasizes students’ learning processes, performance, and reflection. This study aims to analyze the concepts, forms, principles, and implementation of language and literature learning evaluation in elementary schools based on recent scholarly literature. This research employed a library research method consisting of several stages, including the identification of data sources through scientific databases such as Google Scholar, ERIC, Scopus, and Garuda, as well as the selection of relevant articles using inclusion criteria focused on publications related to the evaluation of language and literature learning at the elementary school level. Data were collected through systematic documentation of research findings and relevant theoretical perspectives. The data were then analyzed using a content analysis approach to categorize the findings into several main themes, namely concepts, forms, principles, challenges, and recommendations for evaluation practices. The findings indicate that formative, summative, authentic, and project-based assessments have become dominant approaches that align with the principles of Merdeka Belajar. Teachers are required to possess a high level of assessment literacy in order to effectively evaluate both receptive and productive language skills in an integrated manner. The main challenges include teachers’ limited understanding of assessment practices, the suboptimal use of assessment rubrics, and the continued dominance of written tests in evaluation practices. Theoretically, this study contributes to enriching the conceptual discourse on the transformation of language and literature evaluation paradigms in the era of the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings also provide implications for the development of teacher training in assessment literacy, the design of performance-based digital evaluation media, and the strengthening of integrative assessment models that holistically evaluate both learning processes and outcomes.

Abstract

There has been a decline in intellectual resilience, where individuals tend to give up quickly when faced with cognitive difficulties because they have become accustomed to receiving instant solutions from technology. The purpose of this study is to analyze the issues surrounding the use of AI and its impact on intellectual abilities. This research employed a literature review method. The research process involved several systematic steps. The identification and collection of sources began with searching for and gathering scholarly materials particularly national and international journal articles, that are highly relevant to the topic. The search was conducted using databases such as Google Scholar, ERIC, ScienceDirect, and Scopus for articles published between 2022 and 2025, resulting in 18 relevant articles that were then analyzed in depth. The findings indicate that the problems associated with AI use do not stem from the technology itself but from how humans utilize it. AI can produce positive impacts when used in a purposeful, critical, and creative manner; however, it may reduce intellectual capacity when it becomes an object of dependency. The study concludes that learning in the era of Artificial Intelligence must emphasize the strengthening of intellectual character, digital literacy, and ethical reasoning so that technological advancement aligns with the development of human cognitive maturity. The implication of this study is that teachers can utilize AI as a tool to facilitate learning, for example in personalizing materials or practice exercises, but strategies are still needed to ensure that students do not become entirely dependent on AI.

Abstract

Literary works play an important role in instilling character values, including nationalism, but studies linking nationalist values in Western literary works with Indonesian local wisdom are still limited. The character of King Tirian in The Last Battle has not been widely analysed as a representation of nationalism that can be reflected through the perspective of local wisdom. This study aims to analyse the value of nationalism as a reflection of the value of Pawongan in the characterisation of King Tirian in the novel The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. This research is a qualitative interpretative study. The subject of this study is the story of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. The researcher acted as the main instrument with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth reading and recording of events and dialogues. In contrast, data analysis used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and cyclic drawing of conclusions. The results of the study show that King Tirian internalises nationalistic attitudes by protecting the territory of Narnia, having positive leadership traits, and showing a willingness to sacrifice for the people and Narnia. This behaviour reflects a spirit of nationalism that aligns with the principle of Pawongan in the Tri Hita Karana concept, which emphasises the importance of harmony among human beings. This research implies that literary works can be a means of depicting moral and national values that align with local wisdom and character education.

Abstract

The development of nonfiction text teaching materials is an important aspect of improving the quality of Indonesian language learning in elementary schools, particularly in strengthening students’ literacy and critical thinking skills. However, the teaching materials currently used in elementary schools remain limited and are not yet fully contextual or research-based. This study aims to systematically review research findings related to the development of nonfiction text teaching materials and to analyze their implications for Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, with the research subjects consisting of scientific articles published in national and international journals indexed in Google Scholar, ERIC, DOAJ, and SINTA. Data were collected through a documentation study using inclusion and exclusion criteria to select relevant articles, while data analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis and thematic synthesis techniques. The results indicate that nonfiction text teaching materials developed in a contextual, student-centered manner and aligned with the curriculum are able to improve reading comprehension, writing skills, and student engagement in the learning process. The integration of SLR findings into Classroom Action Research provides a reflective framework for teachers to improve instructional practices through cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Thus, the development of evidence-based teaching materials becomes an effective strategy for enhancing Indonesian language learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

English proficiency and self-efficacy have been widely recognized as key factors influencing success in language learning. While a growing body of empirical research has examined the relationship between these two constructs, the literature remains fragmented. Consequently, a comprehensive synthesis is needed to clarify research trends, identify dominant themes, and propose an integrative conceptual framework. This study aims to systematically review and synthesize existing research on English proficiency and self-efficacy in language learning. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design, this study follows established review protocols involving systematic article searching, screening, critical appraisal, and thematic synthesis. Peer-reviewed journal articles were retrieved from major academic databases using the keywords “English proficiency” and “self-efficacy”. The selected studies were analyzed to identify publication trends, research contexts, methodological patterns, and core thematic relationships between the two constructs. The findings reveal that research on English proficiency and self-efficacy has increased significantly in recent years, particularly within EFL and ESL contexts. The reviewed studies indicate that self-efficacy consistently plays a facilitative role in the development of English proficiency across language skills, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Based on the synthesized evidence, this study proposes a conceptual framework that integrates self-efficacy, English proficiency, and contextual factors within language learning processes.
