Abstract

This research is motivated by the nature of books that tend to be complex so that students have difficulty understanding the material taught, especially in Indonesian language lessons on vocabulary of adjectives. At this stage, elementary school students should not only be required to understand basic words, but also master more complex vocabulary including words with affixes. The purpose of this study is to develop a picture story book media based on reading literacy to enrich the Indonesian vocabulary of fifth grade elementary school students. The development model used is ADDIE (analysis, planning, product development, implementation and evaluation). The subjects of the study were 30 fifth grade students. Data collection methods were observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The instruments used were expert validation questionnaire sheets, and evaluation questions. Data analysis techniques used were qualitative and quantitative. The results of the study showed that there were differences in students' Indonesian vocabulary before and after implementing Picture Story Books Based on Reading Literacy. It can be concluded that Picture Story Books Based on Reading Literacy are effective in Enriching the Indonesian Vocabulary of Fifth Grade Students. The implications of this study show the importance of using attractive visual media to support the learning process in elementary schools.

Abstract

Students' understanding of poetry in elementary schools remains suboptimal. This is caused not only by limited learning time but also by the lack of supporting media that can present the material effectively and engagingly, which makes it difficult for students to understand the meaning and elements of poetry in depth. The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of picture cards based on local wisdom in poetry learning in fourth-grade elementary schools. This research is a development research using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were 34 fourth-grade elementary school students. Data collection methods included interviews, questionnaires, and tests using instruments such as interview guidelines, questionnaires, and learning outcome test questions. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative. The study found an increase in student engagement in the learning process, as well as a significant difference in students' poetry learning outcomes before and after using picture cards based on local wisdom. Thus, the use of this media is effective in improving students' understanding of poetry material. The implications of this study indicate that picture cards based on local wisdom can be an innovative alternative to support more interesting, contextual, and meaningful learning for students.

Abstract

The low interest of students in learning Balinese script material is a challenge in efforts to preserve the regional language and culture in elementary schools. This study aims to analyse the PAMAGRA BALI learning media using a gamification approach to increase elementary school students' interest in learning Balinese. This research is a research and development (R&D) study with a one-group pretest-posttest design, following the ADDIE model. The research subjects included two material experts, two media experts, one teacher-practitioner, and 19 fourth-grade students as trial subjects. The data collection method used questionnaires, interviews, and learning interest questionnaires, with instruments in the form of expert validation sheets, teacher and student response sheets, and learning interest rating scales. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics to assess validity and practicality, and inferential statistics through prerequisite and hypothesis tests to assess the effectiveness of the media. The results showed that the PAMAGRA BALI media met the criteria for being very valid and very practical and were effective in increasing students' learning interest. Thus, the development of concrete media based on gamification can be an innovative solution in overcoming the low interest in learning Balinese while supporting more active and meaningful learning. The implications of this research indicate that integrating manipulative media and gamification can serve as a contextual learning strategy to strengthen local cultural literacy in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low reading skills and ability to use commas in elementary school students indicate that conventional methods still dominate the learning process and have not utilized contextual learning media. This condition contributes to low student engagement and less-than-optimal learning outcomes in the Indonesian language among grade II students. This study aims to analyze, evaluate, and test the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of flashcard media containing Tat Twam Asi values in improving students' reading skills. This study is a Research and Development (R&D) study with the ADDIE development model. The research subjects consisted of grade II elementary school students, while the validity test subjects involved material experts and learning media experts. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and learning outcome tests, with instruments such as expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and pretest-posttest tests. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and quantitatively using percentages, Aiken's V validity tests, correlated t-tests, and N-Gain Scores. The results showed that the developed flashcard media met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, and improved students' reading skills more effectively. The study's conclusions indicate that flashcards containing Tat Twam Asi are effective in improving elementary school students' reading skills in a more contextual and meaningful way. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating local wisdom into the development of learning media to strengthen students' literacy and character.

Abstract

Many students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) still experience difficulties in developing reading literacy and vocabulary mastery due to low learning motivation and limited English vocabulary knowledge. Conventional instructional approaches that predominantly rely on text-based materials often result in low student engagement and make language learning less meaningful. Therefore, this study aims to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the influence of digital comics on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning based on findings from previous studies. This study employed a systematic review method with a research design guided by the PRISMA framework. The research subjects consisted of empirical studies involving EFL learners, with 11 selected articles identified from an initial pool of 120 articles retrieved from Google Scholar, ERIC, Garuda, and Semantic Scholar databases. Data were collected using a documentation technique with article screening sheets and data extraction forms as the research instruments. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative synthesis and descriptive analysis techniques to identify patterns and trends across the reviewed studies. The findings revealed that digital comics positively influence EFL learning, particularly in improving reading literacy, vocabulary mastery, learning motivation, and student engagement. Overall, digital comics are effective and engaging instructional media that support both cognitive and affective aspects of EFL learning. The findings imply the importance of integrating digital comics into teaching practices and instructional media development to create more interactive and meaningful language learning environments.

Abstract

Character education in the era of globalization faces challenges in shaping children's social behavior in accordance with local moral and cultural values. The lack of engaging, contextually relevant learning media leads to the instillation of character values in children's daily lives being less than optimal. This study aims to analyze, interpret, and evaluate the Pawongan values reflected in the Tri Hita Karana concept, as embodied in the character Danny in Roald Dahl's novel Danny, the Champion of the World, as a medium for character education for the younger generation. This study uses a qualitative, literary content analysis design. The study focuses on the novel Danny, the Champion of the World, with Danny as the central character, and analyzes dialogues, actions, and events that embody Pawongan values. Data collection was conducted through documentation review and intensive reading, with the main instrument a researcher-assisted data categorization sheet. Data analysis uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion. The results show that the character Danny represents the values of compassion, cooperation, respect for parents and teachers, and solidarity in building harmonious relationships with others. The research concludes that children's literature can be an effective tool for strengthening character education grounded in Balinese local wisdom. The implications of this research suggest that children's novels can be used as a medium for character education in both formal and informal settings.

Abstract

Environmental degradation and low ecological awareness among the younger generation highlight the importance of integrating environmental values into education. One possible approach was to integrate the Palemahan concept (the relationship between humans and nature) in children’s literature, particularly novels. This study analyzed how little Billy’s characterization in Billy and the Minpins by Roald Dahl represented Palemahan values. The method used was an interpretive qualitative method by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) involving data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed three stages of Palemahan values: violation, punishment, and internalization. Violations included disrespecting plantations, reckless curiosity, and delayed ecological awareness. These led to punishment in the form of consequences such as risk awareness and ecological awareness, disruption, and consequences, which later developed into internalization, including ecological creativity, environmental awareness, life appreciation, ecological harmony, and harmony restoration. The result of this study confirmed that children’s literature could serve as an effective educational medium, and it is recommended that such literary works be used in character education to foster ecological awareness.
