Data analysis techniques used the t_independent sample test (O1-O2).The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between classical guidance services and media films that were effective in increasing student discipline. This is shown by the results of statistical analysis through the t_independent test of the test sample that is the control group sig.0,000 < 0.05 which shows a significant increase, while the experimental group sig. 0,000 < 0.05 means significant improvement. Thus the classical tutoring service with effective film media increases student discipline.

Abstract

Early literacy skills are the capacity to name letters and write them down, spell simple words, recognize letters and signs around them, identify books from titles, and perform book-related activities. Early literacy consists of nine components, namely language, rules/provisions/habits, knowledge of letters, awareness of language elements, the suitability of phonemes, pretend reading, pretend writing, notation, and cognitive skills. However, mentally retarded children only emphasize the recognition of vowels as the basis of initial literacy. This study aims at determine the effect of game media puzzle to improve initial literacy skills through vowel recognition for mild second-grade mentally retarded students. This study uses a case study. The sampling technique that will be used by researchers is to use quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. Quantitative analysis with simple statistics is used in the survey results to see students' understanding of learning vowels. Qualitative analysis techniques are used in the results of interview data, focus group discussions, observation and documentation. The number of samples used was 3 students from 6 class II students. The research instrument was in the form of observations and interviews. The results of the observation indicate that the average value before being given treatment is 6.0 and the value after being given media treatment is 8.7. Thus it can be predicted the application of game media puzzle effective to improve initial literacy skills through vowel recognition for mild second-grade mentally retarded students.

Abstract

Online counseling refers to the provision of therapeutic helping services which manipulated the electronic communication technology between a professional counselor with his or her clients via devices such as telephone, e-mail, and other social media platforms. One of the services that is getting more attention right now in Malaysia is the tele-counseling which refers to the provision of counseling service via telephone. However, since the policy on its’ provision is still inexistence, this new trend of providing counseling service is still not being accepted by the conventional practitioners, who are still believed in the face-to-face communication in order to establish an effective counseling relationship.  The objective of this concept paper is to explore views of local counseling experts on the feasibility of tele-counseling provision. The thematic analysis from research data revealed three main themes namely, (i) acceptence towards tele-counseling; (ii) advantages of tele-counseling; and (iii) limitations of tele-counseling. The result of this initial study pointed out that tele-counseling can be considered as an alternative provision for the future.   However, in Malaysia, more guiding policies and directives need to be developed so that the delivery of this services in the future will not violate the ethics of the profession which in turn will jeopardize the professionalism of the field.
