Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in the need to strengthen institutional capacity as a prerequisite for enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of maize farmers, and as a collective instrument to address market and policy dynamics. This study aims to identify internal and external factors, as well as to determine appropriate strategies for institutional strengthening of the Padang Roppo Farmer Group in Tallu Bamba Village, Enrekang Sub-district, Enrekang Regency. A qualitative approach with descriptive analysis was applied, using purposive sampling to select 16 informants. Data were obtained from both primary and secondary sources through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that internal factors consist of five strengths and three weaknesses (total score: 3.46), while external factors consist of three opportunities and two threats (total score: 3.53). The IE matrix places the group in Quadrant I (“grow and build”), and SWOT analysis produces four alternative strategies: SO, WO, ST, and WT. The findings suggest the need for local government intervention through sustainable institutional empowerment programs, financing facilitation, and integration of institutional development with maize commodity programs at the village level.

Abstract

Kamang Baru District, Sijunjung Regency is one of the rubber producing areas with the largest land area in West Sumatra and within a period of 5 years there has been a decline in rubber prices reaching 33.33 percent, which has an impact on farmers' income and affects their welfare. This study aims to 1) Describe the characteristics of rubber farmers. 2) Analyze the level of welfare of rubber farmers. 3) What factors affect the welfare of rubber farmers. The analytical tools used are Qualitative Descriptive Analysis, criteria according to Gilarso and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. These results show that the majority of farmers are male, aged 54–57 years, have farming experience of over 25 years, are elementary school graduates, have a land area of 0.25–0.54 ha, have family dependents of 2–5 people, and receive Rp 1,666,000 – Rp 2,814,000 per month. Most farmers are in the medium welfare category, namely 72.72 percent. The variables of rubber farming period (X4), rubber production (X5), land area (X6), price (X7), capital (X8), income (X9) have a significant effect on farmer welfare, while age (X1), education level (X2), number of family dependents (X3), and government policy (X10) do not have a significant effect on farmer welfare. Steps are needed from the government and related agencies to improve farmer welfare through increased production which can be done through plant rejuvenation, technical cultivation extension, access to quality inputs.

Abstract

Islamic boarding school agribusiness management is currently trending. Among them, Islamic boarding schools such as the Islamic Leader School and Hidayatul Mustafid, both of which have stagnated due to the lack of a development model. The purpose of this study is to formulate a scenario for the sustainability of Islamic boarding school agribusiness in Tasikmalaya City. This scenario is needed as capital for the long-term development of Islamic boarding school agribusiness. Islamic Leader School and Hidayatul Mustafid Islamic boarding schools were purposively selected as research locations because they have consistently run Islamic boarding school-based agribusiness for more than ten years in Tasikmalaya City. To date, both Islamic boarding schools have only relied on trial and error, this is because there is no basis for designing a development model. Therefore, this research is very necessary to determine the prospects of Islamic boarding school agribusiness. The study was conducted from January to February 2025. The research method used was a case study, with data used from in-depth interviews with two key informants, two primary informants, and two supporting informants. In addition, to deepen the discussion, a literature review is needed. Furthermore, the analytical tool used was Prospective Participatory Analysis to analyze key factors in scenario development. Based on the research results, five key factors were identified as having a strong influence on the sustainability of Islamic boarding school agribusinesses: Islamic boarding school farming, learning facilities, market partnerships, farming development prospects, and farming sustainability. Furthermore, the tabulation of key factors indicated that the best scenario was moderate-optimistic

Abstract

The rapid growth of urban populations in Makassar City poses significant challenges to agricultural land availability and food security. Urban farming offers an innovative solution by utilizing limited spaces for vegetable cultivation. This study aims to formulate strategies for developing vegetable commodities based on urban farming by identifying internal and external factors and determining strategic priorities. A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. SWOT analysis was applied to map strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, while the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to determine the main strategies. The findings reveal that urban farming development is positioned in an aggressive quadrant (quadrant I), indicating that internal strengths can be optimized to seize external opportunities. The priority strategies include leveraging the strategic locations of women farmer groups (KWT) to enhance distribution and marketing of harvests, both directly and through digital platforms, and optimizing production facilities and government support to improve vegetable quality and quantity. This study concludes that developing vegetable commodities through urban farming in Makassar City has high potential to strengthen food security and improve community welfare.

Abstract

The role of agricultural extension workers is crucial in the process of empowering farmer groups. In reality, the level of farmer participation and group independence remains low. This condition is caused by the lack of farmers’ trust in extension workers due to their limited direct involvement in agricultural field activities. This study aims to examine the role of agricultural extension agents in empowering farmer groups in Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency. Respondents were selected using a random sampling technique, with a total sample of 24 farmer group members. The data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive method to identify and measure the level of extension agents’ roles based on predetermined indicators. The results reveal four main indicators of the extension agents’ roles: as educators, analyzers, consultants, and organizers. The role as educator obtained an average score of 2.16, the role as analyzer 2.28, the role as consultant 2.34, and the role as organizer 2.23. All these scores fall into the “moderately significant role” category. These findings indicate that the role of agricultural extension agents in empowering farmer groups in Tambangan Village still needs to be improved across all aspects. Extension agents are expected to be more active, innovative, and evenly involved in facilitating farmer group activities, including knowledge transfer, problem analysis, solution provision, and group organization. Optimizing these roles is expected to enhance the effectiveness of empowerment programs so that their benefits can be fully experienced by all group members. Therefore, strengthening the capacity of extension agents is a key factor in promoting the independence and sustainability of farmer groups in the study area.

Abstract

The agribusiness sector faces complex challenges, ranging from high volumes of production waste, dependence on limited natural resources, to pressures on environmental sustainability and food security. The still-dominant linear business model worsens this condition, while the implementation of Circular Economy (CE) has not been systematically integrated into the agribusiness value chain. This study aims to analyze the application of CE principles in strengthening sustainable agribusiness through a Systematic Literature Review. The research approach refers to PRISMA (2020) guidelines and the PICo framework (Population, Interest, Context) to ensure the accuracy of literature selection. A total of 26 selected scientific publications were thematically analyzed using the Triple Bottom Line framework (Economic, Social, Environmental) and Resource-Based View perspective. The analysis results indicate that the implementation of CE at every stage of the agribusiness value chain—from production, processing, to distribution—provides significant contributions to resource efficiency, waste reduction, and ecosystem regeneration. The main driving factors for implementation include policy support, technological innovation, and consumer awareness toward sustainable products. Conversely, the main barriers include limited technical capacity of smallholder farmers, digital divide, and weak coordination among stakeholders. Conceptually, this study generates an integrative model showing that CE success is determined by the configuration of valuable resources, rare capabilities, and collaborative relationships that are difficult to imitate. This research confirms that CE is not only a technical strategy, but a development paradigm for agribusiness oriented toward innovation, social inclusiveness, and long-term resilience.

Abstract

The Indonesian palm oil industry is growing rapidly and has promising prospects as a major contributor to the country's foreign exchange. Optimizing the palm oil industry's contribution to state revenue is crucial, given that the sector's substantial potential remains untapped due to weak downstream processing, dependence on global prices, and ineffective fiscal policies. This research aims to provide an empirical basis for formulating strategies to sustainably increase the added value and competitiveness of the national palm oil industry. This study aims to analyze the impact of palm oil industry development on state revenues derived from crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel oil (PKO) exports for the 2012–2021 period. The analysis method uses the Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) approach with industry development indicators including fresh fruit bunch prices, investment realization, wages/salaries, production volume, and the number of plantation companies. The results show that palm oil industry development has a positive but insignificant impact on state revenues, with a significance value of 0.118 (> 0.05) and an influence coefficient of 0.692. These findings indicate that the vast potential of the palm oil industry has not yet fully contributed optimally to state revenues. The main contributing factors include dependence on fluctuating global prices, suboptimal fiscal and export policies, weak downstreaming, and limited added value of derivative products. The implication is that improvement strategies are needed, including rejuvenating smallholder oil palm plantations, accelerating ISPO certification, strengthening downstream processing, developing a cross-sector national palm oil roadmap, providing supporting infrastructure, developing human resources, and fostering more sustainable governance. These efforts are expected to increase the competitiveness of the palm oil industry and increase its contribution to state revenue.
