Abstract

This study analyzes students' difficulties in solving set story problems, taking into account students' learning styles. The research approach used a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through questionnaires, written tests and interviews. The results showed that students with visual, auditorial, and kinesthetic learning styles experienced difficulties in solving set story problems. Students with visual learning styles experience two indicators of difficulty, namely difficulty learning concepts and difficulty applying principles. For difficulties in learning concepts, students cannot use formulas that are in accordance with the conditions of the problem, namely the formula for the combination and difference of three sets. As for the difficulty of applying principles, students make mistakes in calculation activities and do not solve the problem. Students with auditorial learning styles experience all indicators of difficulty, namely difficulty learning concepts, difficulty applying principles and difficulty solving verbal problems. In the difficulty of applying concepts, students cannot translate the form of the problem, do not know what is known from the problem, students also do not use formulas that are in accordance with the conditions of the problem. In difficulty applying principles, students make mistakes in calculation activities when solving problems. In the difficulty of solving verbal problems, students make mistakes in translating problems into mathematical form, students also cannot determine the data used, and do not check the answers obtained. Students with kinesthetic learning styles fulfill all indicators of difficulty, namely difficulty learning concepts, difficulty applying principles and difficulty solving verbal problems. In difficulties in learning concepts, students hesitate in using memorization or set notation. students cannot use formulas that are in accordance with the conditions of the problem. In difficulties in applying principles, students make mistakes in calculation activities. This happens because students do not know the formula and make mistakes in using the data used. In the difficulty of solving verbal problems, students make mistakes in determining the data used, students do not check their answers again.

Abstract

Problem solving is an important element in solving real life problems. When students are solving mathematical problems, students are faced with several challenges such as difficulty in understanding the problem because of problems that students have faced before. From the results of the teaching and learning activities that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the questions given to 36 students show that students' problem solving abilities are still low. The average obtained was 63.75 and classical completeness was 67%. Based on the results of the PISA survey in 2018, Indonesia was ranked 64th out of 65 countries that took part in the test. The aim of this research is to determine the increase in problem solving abilities using a metacognitive approach. This research uses a meta-analysis method by reviewing several articles in national and international journals. This meta-analysis is quantitative because it uses numerical calculations and statistics. This meta-analysis research uses 12 samples of relevant journals in national journals. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, it can be concluded that the articles that have been analyzed have an effect size value in the very high category of 17% of all articles, an effect size in the negligible category of 17%, an effect size in the high category of 17% of all articles. . The effect size in the medium category is 17% of the entire article. The effect size in the low category is 25% of the entire article. Based on the calculation results, the t_count value was 9.63 and the t_table value was 1.96; Thus the conclusion is obtained t_count=9.63>t_tabel=1.96. So H_0 is rejected. So, the average problem solving ability of experimental group students is more than the average of control group students.

Abstract

This study aims to create an effective learning design for teaching number pattern concepts to 8th grade students using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach, while incorporating the context of Shio Tradition in Chinese Culture. The research employs a design research methodology consisting of three distinct stages: preliminary design, design experiment, and retrospective analysis. In the preliminary design stage, researchers analyze the current curriculum, student needs, and RME principles to develop initial instructional materials and strategies. These materials uniquely integrate the cyclical nature of of Shio Tradition in Chinese Culture as a culturally relevant context for exploring number patterns. The design experiment stage involves implementing these materials in real classroom settings, collecting data through observations, student work samples, and teacher feedback. Finally, the retrospective analysis stage evaluates the effectiveness of the learning design, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Throughout all stages, the study focuses on incorporating key RME principles, including the use of realistic contexts, student-constructed models, and interactive instruction. Throughout all stages, the study focuses on incorporating key RME principles, including the use of realistic contexts, student-constructed models, and interactive instruction. The resulting learning design is expected to enhance students' understanding of number patterns, improve their problem-solving skills, and increase their engagement with mathematics while also promoting cultural awareness. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on effective, culturally responsive mathematics instruction and provides a systematic approach to developing and refining RME-based learning designs for middle school mathematics education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the types of student errors in solving HOTS-based circle questions based on kastolan theory, then it will also be explored regarding the factors that cause errors, and the percentage of student errors when solving problems. The method that will be used is descriptive qualitative. The instruments in this study consisted of written tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The subjects in this study were 13 students from class VIII A of SMP Negeri 4 Randublatung in semester 2 of the 2022/2023 academic year. Then interviews will be conducted by taking 3 samples of student answers grouped based on types of conceptual, procedural, and technical errors. The results showed that the most dominant errors occurred in technical errors where errors were made in the counting process with a percentage of 69.23%. Student procedural errors were made due to the incompatibility of the steps in solving the questions which resulted in wrong answers, with a percentage of 53.84%. Students' conceptual errors were made because students misinterpreted concepts and incorrectly determined the problem solving formula, with a percentage of 46.15%. Factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving HOTS-based questions are: students are not careful in the process of calculating ranks, use formulas that do not meet the prerequisites of the formula, and incompatibility of steps in solving problems. Keywords: Error Analysis, Cricles, HOTS Type Questions, Kastolan Theory

Abstract

Quality education is one of the rights that every citizen must obtain. The quality of education can be seen through the learning process provided by teachers to students at school. However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the learning process became very hampered, especially in mathematics learning. This cannot be separated from the assumption that mathematics is a subject that is difficult for students to understand. The presence of the MathCityMap application is one of the innovations in the field of mathematics learning because it can make learning mathematics more fun for students. This paper aims to analyze the MathCityMap experiment at SDN Kaweron II with the aim of improving students' problem solving abilities. The research results show that using MathCityMap is quite effective in improving students' problem solving abilities because learning is packaged in a fun way and attracts students' interest in studying mathematics outside the classroom. Using MathCityMap also becomes a challenge for students to want to solve every problem given by the teacher. Therefore, apart from problem solving skills, this learning also improves students' critical thinking and teamwork skills.
