Abstract

Education is an important part of life through this means of transformation, including mathematics. Mathematics plays an important role in learning and is part of other sciences. However, students often have difficulty remembering and applying mathematical formulas correctly. This study aims to improve the mathematical ability of VIII grade junior high school students on geometry material using cartesian coordinate board media. The research approach used is experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of two randomly selected classes, one class as an experimental group using cartesian coordinate board media and one class as a control group using conventional methods. Data were collected through mathematical ability tests given before and after treatment, as well as through observations and interviews. The results showed that the use of cartesian coordinate board media significantly improved students' mathematical abilities on geometry material compared to conventional methods. This improvement can be seen from the comparison of pretest and posttest scores which show a greater improvement in the experimental group. In addition, students showed higher interest and motivation in learning geometry by using this media. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the cartesian coordinate board media is effective in improving students' mathematical abilities in geometry material in class VIII junior high school. Therefore, it is recommended that math teachers consider using this media in the learning process to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the interaction between the gamification strategy and the level of self-efficacy on students' mathematics learning outcomes. This research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The population of this study consists of all eighth-grade classes at Mts Al Ittihadiyah, and the research sample consists of students from classes VIII-1 and VIII-2, selected using Cluster Random Sampling technique. The results show that the gamification strategy has a significant impact on mathematics learning outcomes, particularly for students with high self-efficacy. Students who used the Kahoot-assisted gamification strategy showed better learning outcomes compared to those who used the PowerPoint-assisted gamification strategy. The two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed a significant interaction effect between the gamification strategy and self-efficacy on learning outcomes. The R-squared value of 0.870 indicates that this model explains 87% of the variation in students' learning outcomes. The conclusion of the study shows that the Kahoot-assisted gamification strategy contributes more significantly to improving mathematics learning outcomes compared to PowerPoint, especially for students with high self-efficacy. The results indicate that students with high self-efficacy tend to have better learning outcomes compared to students with low self-efficacy. The findings also show a significant interaction between the gamification strategy and self-efficacy, where the Kahoot strategy is more effective for students with high self-efficacy. There were no significant differences in the effectiveness of the two strategies for students with low self-efficacy

Abstract

This study aims to identify students' misconceptions based on field-dependent (FD) and field-independent (FI) cognitive styles through the application of the Jigsaw learning model, particularly in mathematics learning. The research subjects consisted of 4 seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Bolo, divided into FD and FI groups based on the results of the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT). The findings show that FD students had a higher misconception rate than FI students. A total of 35% of FD students experienced misconceptions. On the other hand, FI students had a lower percentage of misconceptions, at 15%. Applying the Jigsaw learning model successfully reduced misconceptions in both groups, especially among FI students, who are naturally more independent in processing information. However, FD students require additional intervention in the form of guidance and peer support to enhance their understanding. In conclusion, the Jigsaw learning model is effective in reducing misconceptions, particularly for FI students, but it still requires adaptations for FD students to achieve optimal results.
