Abstract

In addition to good physical and psychological conditions, recovery is another important component that athletes must meet to support success in the field. This study aims to determine the effect of active and passive recovery on plyometric exercises on speed and power. The type used in this study is quasi-experimental. The sample of this research is 44 athletes from Lampung Province who will compete for Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) 2021 Papua. The plyometric exercises applied are plyometric exercises (multiple hops and jump variations). After doing the plyometric exercises, active and passive recovery is applied. The speed research instrument is the 30 m sprint test for power using a vertical jump. Analysis of the data used: paired test analysis and independent sample test. The results obtained are that plyometric exercises on active and passive recovery affect athletes' speed and power abilities. Although it affects performance, in the effectiveness test, the speed of active recovery is better than passive recovery. As for power, both of them do not have the level of effectiveness between passive and active recovery. The study's results are expected to be a reference to be included in the training program using the plyometric model with active and passive recovery to support the success of the Lampung Province athletes in 2021.

Abstract

Leadership has been identified as an important factor that may help guide and contribute to the effective provision of physical education in several different contexts. Despite the importance attributed to physical education leadership, more empirical research evidence still needs to relate to the topic. The purpose of this review is to describe leadership research in physical education in the last five years (2018–2022). Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) were adopted for the research review, and two databases (Scopus and Web of Science) were used in article browsing. 741 articles were obtained from two databases (Scopus: 392 articles) and (WoS: 349 articles). After following the exclusion criteria, only 13 articles remained. The review succeeded in showing that Iraq publishes the most research, and quantitative, qualitative, mixed research (quantitative and qualitative) approaches, and heuristic approaches are the methods and types of research used, and then the review is divided into five research groups: (i) physical education teacher leadership, (ii) principals and departmental leadership, (iii) student leadership, (iv) school leadership, and (v) cultural leadership. Of these five groups, transformational leadership is the most frequently discussed topic. Future research can be continued with mapping analysis of research on this topic using bibliometric or scientometric studies. This literature review can also be continued by discussing the topic of leadership in sports.

Abstract

The achievement of organizational goals shows the performance of effective sports organizations, where the strategies taken by leaders in running the organization have a role. This quantitative study uses a cross-sectional survey approach to collect data in a month to understand the relationship between leadership style and sports federation performance. Due to time constraints, the population of this study was only focused on members of the 46 elite sports federations in Central Java Province. Using purposive sampling as a sampling technique and obtained 127 respondents. Using the Guttman scale, the respondent filled out the questionnaire related to the humanistic, transformational, participatory, servant, and organizational performance leadership styles. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the four leadership styles have a positive relationship where if the leadership style is often used in organizational management, organizational performance will also increase as the servant leadership style is the highest correlation level among others though it is not the most widely used leadership style by elite sport federation leaders in Central Java Province. The servant leadership style is only used by 96.61% of sport federation leaders, but 98.95% of leaders use the participative or democratic style.

Abstract

Moreover backhand short serve is an important element of the main character in badminton, where not many people can maximize the potential and limits of each athlete, such as power, speed, accuracy, and motion efficiency. This study aims to determine the potential and weaknesses of short backhand serve in badminton through a kinematic analysis approach, with a sample of children aged 12-16 years PB Pendowo Semarang City. The method used quantitative with a descriptive analysis approach, and the analysis is assisted by using the Kinovea 0.9.4 series software. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with two criteria; age (12-16 years old) and participation in a Semarang city-level tournament. The results showed that the PB Pendowo Semarang City athletes in the implementation phase are in the "Appropriate" category, with a percentage of 66.6%. The instruments used in this data collection are observation and documentation. Several factors that influence the level of conformity are muscle mass, arm length and height, and training intensity. This research can still be developed in future research by discussing more specific things, such as focusing on active wrists and, more specifically, explain about flick movement in the wrist motion. Additional supporting literacy in the backhand short serve analysis could help the athletes and coaches to reach effective movement to get points using the backhand short of serving as the first attack.

Abstract

The appropriate genetic potential of an athlete or prospective athlete determines the development of their future performance and achievement and reduces the risk of pathological conditions such as overtraining. This study aimed to determine the genotype variation thought to play a role in differences in exercise results and explosive power performance, namely the ACE gene. The research method used a cross-sectional design to describe the relationship between a factor and its effects on how genetic mutation variations play a role in an athlete's physical performance by involving 54 male and female badminton athletes with an average age of 18 years. The study was conducted by analysing the development of badminton skills with the same exercise routine, then being given an explosive power test in the form of a vertical jump through the Lewis nomogram assessment. The initial test was in the first month, and the second test was after six months. The results showed significant differences between the groups with variation II, ID and DD genotypes of the ACE gene. The DD genotype group showed better training adaptation in the explosive power test than genotype II and ID with a significant value (P<0.05). This study concludes that athletes with genotype DD variations adapt better to explosive power training than athletes with genotype II and ID. Athletes with genetic mutations II and ID in the ACE gene are more suitable for badminton sports requiring complex movement abilities and skills, which require good anaerobic and aerobic abilities.

Abstract

The research was conducted because of the various factors that influence the success of the pointing throw, so the evidence is needed for the factors that contribute to its success. This research aims to analyze the factors that give success in pointing throws. The method applied in this study uses descriptive correlational analysis to obtain a factor of determination on the results of the pointing throw. The subjects were 15 male athletes aged 15-17 years registered at FOPI Pati Regency with a total sampling technique. The results of data analysis show that the analysis of the physical component factors at pointing explains the formation of 3 components in the independent variable. This is shown in each component formed to have their respective contributions. Component 1 with member variables Eye-hand Coordination, Concentration, and Kinesthetic Perception has an effect of 42.937%, component 2 with member variables Arm muscle strength, wrist flexibility, and balancing have an effect of 19.403%, and component 3 with member variable Sleeve length has an influence of 13.508%. This study concludes that athletes with Eye-hand Coordination, Concentration, and Kinesthetic Perception will have a high pointing success rate on petanque.

Abstract

Many successful professional athletes start from a humble beginning where investing time, dedication, and hard work is required. This research investigates the motivations and challenges young Filipino (Batang Pinoy) athletes experience while pursuing careers in boxing. It purposively selected 10 young male boxing athletes who had already competed in provincial, regional and national games from the Bicol region, Philippines. Using a phenomenological approach, the participants participated in an in-depth interview using the validated interview questions. It reveals that poverty is portrayed as a great motivator of young athletes, where the life stories of successful world boxing champions serve as their basis. They are also influenced and supported by their peers and family in their boxing careers. However, insufficient facilities and fundings are mainly the cause of their struggles. This study serves as a call for the national governing body of sports in the country to further extend its efforts to support the needs of young potential athletes. Specifically, safety equipment and training, strengthening sports policies, and funding are necessary to solve these challenges.

Abstract

The results of learning physical education skills were not limited to physical development but also mental development and motivation to learn. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the block method (BM) and the play-based random method (RM) on long jump skills (JLS) in terms of motivation (MTV). This type of research is quasi-experimental with a 2x2 factorial design. A sample of 20 Samiun Makassar public primary school students was randomly selected and divided into four groups. Treatment research for eight weeks. Before treatment, the sample was divided into two, high motivation (MTVH) and low motivation (MTVL), through questionnaires and the final test of long jump skills learning outcomes (JLS). The results showed that BM significantly increased JLS compared to RM (P<0.05). There was a significant interaction between Mt and MTV (P<0.05). The MTVH student group using MBB1 had better JLS than MRB1 (P<0.05). The group of students who had MTVL had no difference in results between MBB2 and MRB2 (P>0.05). KLJ in physical education for elementary school students is very good at using MB, and the teacher increases MTV during learning.

Abstract

The condition of elderly is a condition with decreased function both anatomically and physiologically. The problem is the lack of participation of the elderly in exercise due to motivational factors, physical conditions, and attitudes of the elderly towards this type of exercise. This study aims to prove that tai chi is better than low-intensity steady-state cardio in improving the physical fitness and sleep quality of the elderly. The method used in this study is quantitative inferential using a two-group experimental design. This study examined as many as 40 older adults as subjects. The Physical fitness was collected using a senior fitness test instrument, and sleep quality was collected using a sleep quality questionnaire entitled the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The data analysis technique was paired sample t-test and independent t-test. The results showed that tai chi exercise was better than low-intensity steady-state cardio for increasing flexibility (p<0,05), muscle strength in the upper and lower extremities (p<0,05), and improving coordination and balance abilities (p<0,05). At the same time, the low-intensity steady state is better than tai chi exercise in improving cardiovascular ability (p<0,05). Tai chi exercise is better than the low-intensity steady-state cardio method for improving sleep quality (p<0,05). The conclusion is that tai chi exercise is better than the low-intensity steady state in improving physical fitness and sleep quality in the elderly group.
