Two decades or more, in the global scheme, Islamic studies have been enforced to take broader paradigms from dogmatic-theology to popular-religious. Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

Civilizational Jurisprudence has emerged as a crucial topic of discussion in Indonesia in recent years. Rapid global transformations and national dynamics have driven PBNU to introduce this discourse. Key global and national concerns include prolonged armed conflicts, radicalism and terrorism, climate change, geopolitical shifts, economic disparity, counter-discourses against the Republic of Indonesia and Pancasila, equitable economic distribution, and the reinforcement of Indonesian cultural identity. Against this socio-global backdrop, this study aims to conceptualize a Critical-Transformative Civilizational Jurisprudence framework to strengthen Wasathiyyah Islam and religious moderation in Indonesia. This research employs a literature review method, utilizing the latest data from various media sources. The analysis is conducted through a descriptive-analytical approach with a discourse analysis technique (content analysis) to examine the emerging narratives and conceptual developments. The findings indicate that Civilizational Jurisprudence plays a significant role in reinforcing Wasathiyyah Islam and religious moderation in Indonesia through two primary channels: cultural and structural strategies

Abstract

The transformation of higher education, particularly in Islamic studies, necessitates innovation in learning and research. This study explores the role of digital tools in Qur'anic and Tafsir research, analyzing their impact on efficiency, accuracy, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving rectors, faculty leaders, lecturers, students, and IT teams. Findings show that successful digital integration requires strong academic literacy and technology-based methodologies. Tools like corpus analysis software, AI-driven text comparison, and digital manuscripts enhance precision in analyzing Qur'anic texts, reducing processing time and enabling deeper cross-referencing. Compared to traditional methods, digital tools improve accuracy in identifying linguistic patterns and historical interpretations. Additionally, technology fosters interdisciplinary dialogue, connecting Qur'anic studies with linguistics, history, and artificial intelligence. This study underscores the importance of bridging tradition and technology, advocating for structured frameworks to optimize digital tools in Qur'an and Tafsir research. By embracing technological advancements, Islamic studies can remain relevant, innovative, and better equipped to address contemporary academic and societal challenges.

Abstract

The doda-idi tradition is a local Acehnese practice where mothers lull their children in a swing while humming poems filled with prayers, praise, and hopes for their future. Once an essential part of early childhood socialization and character building within Acehnese families, this tradition is now fading. The doda-idi tradition played a crucial role in embedding values and fostering emotional bonds between mother and child. However, it has become increasingly rare among Acehnese families. This article examines the current state of the doda-idi tradition and identifies the factors contributing to its decline. The study employs a qualitative socio-historical approach, utilizing literature reviews, in-depth interviews with mothers, community leaders, and traditional leaders; and field observations to explore the changes in early childhood socialization in Acehnese society. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's analytical techniques, namely, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal two primary factors behind the tradition's decline: modernization and technological advances. Modernization has provided greater educational and employment opportunities for both men and women, leading to increased population mobility. As a result, many women lack exposure to the cultural transmission of doda-idi, which is not taught formally or informally outside family environments. Simultaneously, technological innovations have introduced devices such as electronic swings, tape recorders, and MP3 players, which replace the mother's role in singing doda-idi. The loss of this tradition signifies not only the fading of a cultural practice but also the diminishing of an intimate and significant aspect of early childhood socialization in Acehnese society. Addressing this decline requires efforts to preserve and revive the tradition within the community.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a significant role in character education and religious learning in Indonesia. Effective management relies on strong leadership and interpersonal communication between administrators and educators. Communication patterns influence decision-making, conflict resolution, and overall institutional effectiveness. In pesantren, the relationship between mudir (leader) and ustaz (teachers) is crucial for maintaining discipline and achieving educational goals. This study aims to describe the pattern of interpersonal communication between mudir and ustaz in Pondok Pesantren Darul Hadits Palembang and analyse its influence on the management of the pesantren. Using a sequential mixed method, the study started with a quantitative approach to identify communication patterns, followed by qualitative analysis for deepening. Results showed the dominance of open (64%) and assertive (63%) communication patterns, reflecting transparency, assertiveness, and clarity of instructions from the mudir. The communication structure is hierarchical, with mudir as the main authority. The implications of these findings suggest that open and assertive communication patterns, supported by the mulazamah-based education system, strengthen interpersonal relationships and the effectiveness of pesantren management

Abstract

Sheikh Amran Waly is a prominent scholar in Aceh with a congregation spread across Southeast Asia, yet his teachings are often rejected by Acehnese scholars. One of the most controversial ideas is his interpretation of Dhamir Huwa in Surah Al-Ikhlas, which he associates with Muhammad as Insan Kamil. This study aims to conduct an epistemological and interpretative analysis of this understanding using a qualitative-descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations and documentation. The findings reveal that Sheikh Amran Waly's interpretation of Dhamir Huwa is derived from the teachings of Sheikh Abdul Karim Al-Jili and Ibn Arabi. This study also concludes that Sheikh Amran Waly's understanding of Dhamir Huwa is built on a valid epistemological and interpretative framework rooted in the thoughts of previous scholars. The contribution of this research lies in elucidating the continuity and adaptation of Wujudiyah thought in Aceh, particularly through Sheikh Amran Waly's synthesis of ishari and ibari dimensions, thereby providing a nuanced perspective on contemporary Wujudiyah discourse.

Abstract

The study of Qur'anic interpretation continues to develop along with the dynamics of Islamic thought, one of which is through the pattern of kalām interpretation developed by the Mu'tazilah. Tafsir al-Kashshāf by al-Zamakhsharī is one of the main representations of the Mu'tazilah rational approach in understanding the verses of tanzīh i'tiqādiyyah. This study aims to analyze the epistemological relationship between reason and revelation in the interpretation, especially in interpreting the concepts of divinity, divine justice, and human free will. In this context, a methodological dilemma arises between the authority of reason as the main interpretive instrument and the authority of revelation as a source of transcendent truth, which is problematic in the discourse of interpretation—both historically and contemporary. Using qualitative methods based on literature studies and content analysis of the interpretation text, this study found that al-Zamakhsharī emphasized the supremacy of reason in interpreting verses containing elements of anthropomorphism, and rejected literal interpretations that have the potential to equate God with creatures. This interpretation consistently prioritizes linguistic and logical approaches to maintain the purity of the concept of monotheism. This study contributes to understanding the epistemological construction of Mu'tazilah interpretation and opens up opportunities for the development of contemporary interpretation methodology that is rational-transcendental and contextual.

Abstract

Intolerance is a problem faced by Indonesian society to this day. And to overcome this problem, educational institutions are one of the institutions that have an important role in instilling religious moderation. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the knowledge of Madrasah Aliyah teachers in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar about religious moderation and to find out the implementation of religious moderation in the teaching and learning process and what values of religious moderation are built by teachers at MAN Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. This study used a qualitative approach with interview methods, observation, and document analysis to obtain data from the principal, teachers, and students. The results showed that teachers' understanding of religious moderation was generally good, especially for those who had attended training. Moderation values, such as justice (adl), balance (tawazun), simplicity (i'tidal), and unity and ukhuwah, were internalized through various learning methods, including discussion, group work, and field studies. However, there are several challenges in implementing religious moderation in madrasas, such as variations in teacher understanding, the dominance of lecture methods, and the influence of the social environment that still has conservative or extreme views. In addition, limited support for resources and ongoing training are also obstacles in optimizing the implementation of this concept. The implications of this study indicate that increasing teacher training, diversifying learning methods, and integrating religious moderation values in all subjects need to be done systematically. Support from madrasas and the government is needed to ensure that religious moderation values can be implemented effectively so that students can develop into inclusive, tolerant individuals who have a balanced understanding of religion.

Abstract

One of the issues that often arises in the context of marriage is the case of "missing husband/wife."This term refers to a situation where the husband is absent or not present in the household for a long time, causing the marriage to be halted or threatened. In the Indonesian marriage law system, this issue refers to UUP No. 01 of 1974 Article 39 and KHI Article 116 point b.This type of research is normative with a legal, comparative, and conceptual approach. This research examines the urgency of reformulating the provisions for a missing husband in the Indonesian marriage law system through the perspective of maslahah al-Buthi.The analysis shows that the two-year waiting period as regulated in KHI Article 116 b and UUP No. 01 of 1974 Article 39 creates serious legal uncertainty for the wife and children, negatively impacting inheritance rights, economic and psychological well-being, and violating the principle of distributive justice.Based on the principle of maslahah al-Buthi, it is recommended to reduce the waiting period to one year to expedite dispute resolution and minimize harm. This reformulation aligns with the goals of national law—human rights protection, gender justice, and legal certainty—while creating synergy between progressive Islamic legal values and modern norms. The implementation of this proposal is expected to achieve a faster determination of marital status, improve economic access for wives, and prevent family poverty, thereby supporting the attainment of family welfare and harmony.

Abstract

This study analyzes global parenting trends from an Islamic perspective using a bibliometric approach to explore digital parenting, emotion regulation, and parental stress in the modern technological era. Data were collected from the Scopus database, including peer-reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2023. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to map citation patterns, keyword relationships, and geographic distribution of publications. The results indicate that parenting research is still predominantly dominated by Western countries, focusing mainly on psychological and social aspects without considering the spiritual dimension. In the Islamic context, parenting not only addresses the emotional and physical needs of children but also aims to instill the values of monotheism and noble morals. Islamic digital parenting emphasizes the importance of parental supervision and guidance to ensure technology use aligns with Islamic values. Emotion regulation teaches patience, compassion, and effective communication based on the Qur’an and Hadith, while parental stress can be managed through the concepts of tawakal (trust in God), dhikr (remembrance), and support from religious communities. This bibliometric study reveals a significant gap in research on Islamic parenting, particularly concerning the integration of Islamic teachings with the challenges of parenting in the digital age. Therefore, this study recommends developing a structured framework for Islamic digital parenting and identifying priority areas for future empirical research. Furthermore, the findings can inform the development of policies and parenting education curricula grounded in Islamic values to support Muslim families in navigating contemporary challenges.
