Abstract

Disaster events both natural and non-natural factors such as epidemics can occur anytime and anywhere, which can affect communities and individuals. This natural or human-caused event or series of events can result in human casualties and suffering. Losses caused by disasters can be minimized or prevented if people's understanding of the disaster itself is sufficient, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Purpose: This activity is to conduct disaster mitigation training in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic for teachers at the Kanzul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Kelurahan, in Pasie Nan Tigo, Koto Tangah District, Padang City. Activity target: the people of Pasie Nan Tigi Koto are able to carry out disaster mitigation and evacuation in the event of an earthquake followed by a tsunami, rising sea levels and waves. Method: activities in the form of lectures and exercises that begin with the distribution of masks to all participants involved in the activity, and filling out questionnaires on Covid-19 prevention and disaster management. After delivering the material, it was followed by a discussion on Covid-19 prevention, as well as drills on disaster mitigation and victim evacuation. The results of the activity were an increase in disaster mitigation and evacuation capabilities as well as an increase in participants' awareness in implementing health protocols for the prevention of Covid-19. Most of the participants' understanding of Covid-19 prevention and disaster management had increased, as evidenced by the increase in the number of correct questionnaire answers during the post-test compared to the pre-test from 50% to 80%. In addition, participants' skills have also increased regarding disaster mitigation, the implementation of evacuation techniques when a disaster occurs and how to evacuate victims when the disaster has subsided. Conclusion: Every individual left behind in a disaster-prone area needs to receive knowledge and training skills in disaster mitigation and evacuation techniques during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

It is important that School Health Unit (UKS) activities are carried out in schools in accordance with existing regulations. Problems that often arise in the implementation of UKS include that schools already have a special room for UKS activities, but its utilization is not optimal and cadres of students have not been formed on an ongoing basis to become UKS administrators. The implementation of the UKS at SDN 17 Gurun Laweh has not run optimally because the UKS cadres have not been active and the infrastructure is lacking. Therefore it is necessary to carry out counseling and practical implementation of UKS as training material for UKS cadres at SDN 17 Gurun Laweh. The activities carried out were in the form of health counseling using the lecture method (delivering prepared material) using PowerPoint on balanced nutrition, undernutrition, excess nutrition (obesity), and First Aid in Accidents (P3K), as well as practice when delivering first aid material. To evaluate the activities, a pre-test and post-test were carried out before and after the delivery of the material. After counseling, there was a significant increase in student's knowledge of the material presented from an average score of 75.3 to 90. It was found that knowledge that experienced the most significant increase was about the 4 pillars of balanced nutrition and about first aid kits. With the results of this activity, it is hoped that the prospective UKS cadres will be able to return to activity and that the UKS can run according to its functions. It is suggested that there is a need for continuing training for UKS cadres in collaboration with the local public health center for training activities.

Abstract

Service activities based on the realization of a healthy school environment are carried out by forming and empowering a larva monitoring team or jumantik in schools. This activity aims to create a school that is healthy and free from mosquito larvae, especially the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which is a vector of dengue fever. The activity was carried out by carrying out a pretest and posttest, counselling and also socialization to school residents about DHF and also jumantik. After equalizing perceptions about jumatiK, a member of the jumantik team will be recruited who will be tasked with monitoring larvae, eradicating mosquito nests, as well as recording and reporting on the presence of mosquito larvae in the area of SMPN 41 Padang City. There is a significant difference in the average level of knowledge and attitudes of students at SMPN 41 Padang before and after counselling and providing material regarding the larva monitoring team. This shows that the counselling provided can affect the level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of students regarding larva monitoring and dengue fever for the better. A Jumantik team has been formed in each class. Hopefully, the team will do well in the future.

Abstract

The prevalence of helminthiasis worldwide for pre-school-age children is estimated at 267 million and for school-age children, it is estimated at 568 million. The risk factor for the high prevalence of helminthiasis is the low level of personal sanitation (clean and healthy lifestyle). The behavior referred to in children is often not washing hands before eating and after defecating, not keeping nails clean, and eating snacks in random places where cleanliness is not maintained. It is necessary to carry out counseling related to intestinal worms in elementary school children by teaching clean living behavior so that students can avoid helminthiasis. The method of activities carried out is in the form of health promotion using the lecture method (delivering prepared material) using poster media about what worms are, the characteristics of worms, and how to prevent worms. Before delivering the material, a pre-test was carried out and finally, a post-test was carried out to see changes in student knowledge. The activity was also accompanied by the handing out of deworming and other health posters to schools. It was found that after counseling there was a significant increase in student's knowledge of the material presented from an average score of 71 to 84. The conclusion was that the implementation of counseling using poster media increased students' knowledge about helminthiasis. It is recommended that schools can put posters in places that are easy for students to see and schools procure other posters related to disease prevention and implementing clean living behaviors..

Abstract

Indonesia is a rich country with biodiversity consisting of thousands of medicinal plant species and approximately 300 species are used as traditional medicine by the traditional medicine industry. Therefore, the existing biodiversity in Indonesia is an asset and resource that must be maintained and managed so that it can become an ancestral heritage and benefit the community for maintaining health. FMP (Family Medicinal Plants) is a type of plant of choice that is efficacious as medicine with easy maintenance and relatively low cost. FMP is a safe alternative for family medicine because it rarely causes side effects, is easy to process, and is consumed for first aid in cases of minor illnesses such as fever, cough, or to help maintain stamina. The existence of FMP in the home environment is very important because apart from being an alternative treatment it can also improve family welfare. The purpose of carrying out this community service activity is that the residents of the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Orphanage know the benefits, how to use, and how to make traditional dosage form from FMP. The method used in this activity is providing counseling, training, giving FMP seeds, and tools that can be used to make products of traditional medicinal plants. In counseling activities, pretest and posttest sheets were also given. The results of the service showed that the average pretest score of the participants was 85 and increased in the post test to 94. It can be concluded that the participants took part in the activity enthusiastically so that their knowledge of the Family Medicinal Plants (FMP) increased.

Abstract

The human need for sugar as an additional ingredient to give sweet taste to food and drinks is very high. However, excessive consumption of sugar can cause problems, especially for people with obesity and diabetes. Therefore, an alternative sweetener is needed to replace sugar which does not have harmful effects on health and is low in calories, one of which is stevia sweetener. The purpose of this activity is for the community/medicinal plant farmers in the Sungkai Park Memorial Area to know about the types of plants that have health benefits such as the Stevia plant as a natural sweetener that can be consumed for health and can be stored for a long time. The activity was carried out at the Self-Help Agriculture and Rural Training Center (P4S) in Sungkai Village, Sungkai Green Park Ecotourism, Lambung Bukit Village, Padang City. This activity was carried out in three stages, namely: 1. counseling and training on how to make good quality traditional medicine namely Stevia, 2. practice of making Stevia leaf extract products, and 3. evaluation. The results of the implementation of the activity were that it could increase public awareness and awareness of the use of Stevia leaves in making health drinks. Abstract

The problem of nutritional status in toddlers is a major concern worldwide, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Feeding difficulties in toddlers can cause nutritional status problems. Parents, especially mothers, play an important role in meeting their children's nutritional needs. Nutritional education activities aim to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding good eating habits for improving the nutritional status of their children. The method used was direct counseling using leaflets as a medium, targeting mothers of toddlers who attend the Posyandu XIV Megamerian working in Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Padang City. 15 mothers of toddlers attended the activity, one health worker from Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, two cadres, and four volunteers. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores of the mothers of toddlers. Based on the results obtained, there was an increase in the average pre-test and post-test scores, from 45.56 to 61.11, with a statistical test result of p = 0.043. From these results, it can be concluded that providing nutritional education regarding good eating habits through leaflets can improve the knowledge and understanding of mothers of toddlers. Furthermore, this activity is expected to improve feeding and childcare behavior in toddlers. As a follow-up, nutritional education activities can be held regularly through Posyandu activities to overcome nutritional problems in Indonesian toddlers. In addition, the role of the community and support from relevant parties are also needed to improve the nutritional status of toddlers in this country.
