Abstract

Earthquake is a natural disaster that can occur suddenly and cause damage and loss of life. Therefore, it is important to have disaster preparedness to reduce the impact, especially on vulnerable groups such as the elderly. Therefore, a disaster education program is directed at increasing the elderly's perception of earthquake preparedness. This activity involved providing educational materials and simulations to 15 elderly people for one day. After the training, interviews were conducted to evaluate their perceptions regarding knowledge and attitudes towards disaster preparedness. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 5 elderly people involved in the program. The results of the interviews revealed that the knowledge of the elderly about earthquakes still needs to be improved. Even so, most of them were able to demonstrate their ability to prepare disaster preparedness bags. However, there is potential to further enhance their knowledge and skills. This includes an understanding of the contents of a disaster preparedness bag, the actions to be taken during an earthquake, and their role in educating the community about disaster mitigation. It is hoped that this kind of program will have a long-term impact by increasing the understanding and awareness of the elderly on earthquake preparedness. Through an educational approach and their active involvement in simulation exercises, the elderly can become agents of change in improving disaster preparedness in the community.

Abstract

Sanitary napkins are used by women during menstruation to absorb blood from the vagina. Sanitary napkins are divided into 2 types, namely disposable pads which are usually made of cotton and plastic, and cloth pads that can be reused (reusable pads). According to the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) sanitary napkins are one of the highest polluters in Indonesia. The amount of pad waste in one month can reach 1.4 billion. In addition, the discovery of chlorine which is harmful to health. The average woman uses more than 16,000 pads/tampons/pantyliners during her lifetime. That means, there are more than 45 million women's products are used and discarded every year. In Indonesia alone, it turns out that sanitary pads can reach 26 tons every day. The Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Andalas University realizes that the problem of waste, especially waste from pads, is very important for the balance of the environmental ecosystem. As an initial step to reduce sanitary napkin waste by providing education and socialization on the manufacture of cloth sanitary napkins. The service activity began with socialization with the school principal and teachers, after which it was given to all 29 Al-Ishlah High School students. Then a pre-test was conducted to find out the students' knowledge regarding eco-friendly sanitary napkins and menstruation where more than half of the students (89%) had good knowledge about reproductive health. After that, counseling was carried out regarding the impact of using disposable sanitary napkins on the environment and educating female students to use cloth sanitary napkins and explaining how to make cloth sanitary napkins. It is hoped that by carrying out this community service activity, the use of disposable pads/plastic pads can be reduced little by little, so that the amount of sanitary pad waste can be reduced and the environment will be better.

Abstract

The prevalence of helminthiasis worldwide for pre-school-age children is estimated at 267 million and for school-age children, it is estimated at 568 million. The risk factor for the high prevalence of helminthiasis is the low level of personal sanitation (clean and healthy lifestyle). The behavior referred to in children is often not washing hands before eating and after defecating, not keeping nails clean, and eating snacks in random places where cleanliness is not maintained. It is necessary to carry out counseling related to intestinal worms in elementary school children by teaching clean living behavior so that students can avoid helminthiasis. The method of activities carried out is in the form of health promotion using the lecture method (delivering prepared material) using poster media about what worms are, the characteristics of worms, and how to prevent worms. Before delivering the material, a pre-test was carried out and finally, a post-test was carried out to see changes in student knowledge. The activity was also accompanied by the handing out of deworming and other health posters to schools. It was found that after counseling there was a significant increase in student's knowledge of the material presented from an average score of 71 to 84. The conclusion was that the implementation of counseling using poster media increased students' knowledge about helminthiasis. It is recommended that schools can put posters in places that are easy for students to see and schools procure other posters related to disease prevention and implementing clean living behaviors..

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) or cardiovascular disease is currently one of the main and first causes of death in developed and developing countries, including Indonesia. The prevalence of CHD in Indonesia, based on the estimated number of sexes, shows around 352,618 men and 442,674 women. Based on age, the highest prevalence is in the population aged 65-74 years (3.6%) which means that out of 100 people 3.6 suffer from CHD. Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) is very important and necessary in prioritizing promotive and preventive efforts, so that all aspects of health services can be carried out in a comprehensive manner. The activities carried out were in the form of health promotion using the counseling method (delivering prepared material) using posters and pocket books on what coronary heart disease is, its symptoms, causes, good food for sufferers and forms of first aid for coronary heart sufferers. Before delivering the material, a pre-test was carried out and after the material was given a post-test. The target of the activity is patients in the cardiac polyclinic of dr. Rasidin Padang. After counseling there was a significant increase in patient knowledge about the material presented from an average of 60 to 75, or an increase in knowledge of 20%. It is suggested that hospitals can put posters in the hospital waiting rooms around health service polyclinics so that health information can be seen by patients at the hospital.

Abstract

There has been an increase in the number of adolescents aged 15-24 worldwide infected with HIV. A comprehensive understanding of HIV-AIDS is crucial in improving access to HIV services and bringing about behavioral changes to reduce risks. Early prevention through health education is important to curb HIV/AIDS cases. Specifically, peer counselor training for HIV/AIDS has not been conducted at SMPN 35 Padang, hence the necessity for such training. The objective of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of peer counselors regarding HIV/AIDS so that they can effectively counsel their peers. The activity will take place at SMP Negeri 35 Padang, specifically in Seberang Padang, Padang Selatan Sub-district, Padang City. Methods employed in this activity include guidance and counseling, brainstorming, games, practicing using health promotion media, and group discussions. Twenty-three peer counselor participants will undergo this training. The outcome of the training indicates an increase in the knowledge of peer counselors regarding HIV/AIDS prevention at SMPN 35 Padang. Before the training (pre-test), the average knowledge level was 6.57, and after the training (post-test), it rose to 9.13, with a p-value of 0.000. This demonstrates the effectiveness of peer counselor education through training in enhancing their knowledge about HIV/AIDS. It is hoped that peer counselors will fulfill their roles by providing information on HIV/AIDS prevention to their peers at school.

Abstract

The human need for sugar as an additional ingredient to give sweet taste to food and drinks is very high. However, excessive consumption of sugar can cause problems, especially for people with obesity and diabetes. Therefore, an alternative sweetener is needed to replace sugar which does not have harmful effects on health and is low in calories, one of which is stevia sweetener. The purpose of this activity is for the community/medicinal plant farmers in the Sungkai Park Memorial Area to know about the types of plants that have health benefits such as the Stevia plant as a natural sweetener that can be consumed for health and can be stored for a long time. The activity was carried out at the Self-Help Agriculture and Rural Training Center (P4S) in Sungkai Village, Sungkai Green Park Ecotourism, Lambung Bukit Village, Padang City. This activity was carried out in three stages, namely: 1. counseling and training on how to make good quality traditional medicine namely Stevia, 2. practice of making Stevia leaf extract products, and 3. evaluation. The results of the implementation of the activity were that it could increase public awareness and awareness of the use of Stevia leaves in making health drinks. Stevia is obtained from the Stevia rebaudiana plant and is safe to consume in moderate doses of 0.1-4 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. stevia has many advantages compared to sugar, including 300 times sweeter than sucrose, does not damage teeth, can lower blood pressure and does not increase blood sugar levels. In addition, stevia can increase blood insulin levels, although the increase is relatively small. In addition to its use as a substitute for sugar as a sweetener. It is hoped that Stevia will become a natural sweetener that can be consumed for health and can be accepted by the market so that it can improve the community's economy, especially from the agricultural sector.
