Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni is an international journal dedicated for the publication of scientific articles in language education, literature, and arts education. It was firstly published on March 2000 with ISSN 1411-3732 in 2007 by Faculty of Language Literature and Arts Universitas Negeri Padang. This journal had ever been changed into Jurnal Bahasa dan Seni during 2004-2013. In 2014 this journal is renamed as Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni applies open journal system (OJS) and peer-reviewed online journal in 2017 with Online ISSN 2548-9097.

Abstract

Even thought collaborative learning is not new in learning English, there are indications that there are still many teachers who do not understand the concept and cannot implement it properly. This article presents the results of the introduction / training of LSLC-based collaborative learning concepts in two Senior High School at Padang for two subjects. The training was conducted in two stages. The first stage was the introduction of concepts. The second stage was training by following the LSLC learning steps: Plan, Do, See. All teachers who participated in the training of the two schools took part in these stages. The results of the implementation indicate that the teacher understood the concepts of collaborative learning and lesson study and they can be considered skillfull enough in implementing collaborative learning.

Abstract

Poem Sidi Djamadi is one of the poems of the Minangkabau which contains Islamic teachings. This study aims to describe the concept of clothing in the poem Sidi Djamadi and clothing as a representation of piety in the poem Sidi Djamadi. This poem was written by Shaykh Sidi Djamadi as a transmitter of Islamic teachings. This poem is examined by Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic approach. This research uses Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutics approach. The object of research is the poem Sidi Djamadi. The research subject is clothing as a representation of piety. Data obtained through transliteration, data inventory, analysis and interpretation, and conclusions. The results of this study are Syair Sidi Djamadi has two concepts of clothing, namely outerwear and inner clothes. Birth clothes are clothes cover genitalia. Clothing as a representation of aurat cover is complete clothing, clothing that functions as a cover of aurat. This type of clothing has many kinds. Daily clothing, special worship clothing (ihram cloth for Hajj and Umrah) and fi sabilillah war clothing. These three kinds of clothes were born to cover the nakedness and support the worship. Inner clothing is the concept of piety clothing (libas attaqwa). The concept of inner clothes consists of five types of representations. The five types of representation are clothing as a representation of faith, clothing as a representation of righteous deeds, clothing as a representation of a good way of life, clothing as a representation of concern for the torment of God, and clothing as a representation of shame.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh hasil pengamatan selama perkuliahan Pengantar Ilmu Jurnalistik. Pada awal matakuliah paket jurnalistik, mahasiswa kurang berminat dalam perkuliahan. Padahal, ini berkaitan dengan pengetahuan jurnalistik. Namun, di akhir matakuliah paket jurnalistik yang berkaitan dengan praktik menulis berita, mahasiswa antusias dalam perkuliahan. Bertolak dari hal tersebut, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan kontribusi pengetahuan jurnalistik terhadap keterampilan menulis berita mahasiswa.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional distribusional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia FBS UNP yang berjumlah 453 orang dan tersebar ke dalam empat kelompok (Tahun Masuk). Berdasarkan pertimbangan perbedaan yang ada antar kelompok populasi, maka sampel penelitian ini dipilih dari mahasiswa angkatan 2014. Sampel berjumlah 51 orang diambil dengan teknik acak sederhana menggunakan rumus Taro Yamane dengan presisi10%. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes keterampilan menulis berita, tes dan tes pengetahuan jurnalistik.Berdasarkan analisis data hasil penelitian diketahui tiga hal berikut. (1) penguasaan kosakata berkontribusi sebesar 20,93% terhadap keterampilan menulis berita. (2) pengetahuan jurnalistik berkontribusi sebesar 30,73% terhadap keterampilan menulis berita. dan (3) secara bersama-sama penguasaan kosakata dan pengetahuan jurnalistik berkontribusi sebesar 32,39% terhadap keterampilan menulis berita. Berdasarkan temuan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ketiga hipotesis penelitian ini diterima. Dengan kata lain, penguasaan kosakata dan pengetahuan jurnalistik, baik secara terpisah maupun secara bersama-sama berkontribusi terhadap keterampilan menulis berita.Kata kunci: kontribusi, pengetahuan jurnalistik, menulis berita

Abstract

The 21stcentury learning trend with mobile devices has made significant impacts on the educational setting. It promotes students’ autonomous learning attitude to have their own learning setting anytime, anywhere, and in any way as the purpose of lifelong learning. It is also applied to build students’ 21stcentury skills known as 4-Cs; collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity as well as digital literacy. On the other hand, there are some questions and concerns being echoed around the matter of balancing pedagogy and technology on the grammar learning content for university level students. This article is a part of developmental research that focuses on an analysis of the principles and features of mobile technology support tools for learning English grammar in higher education. A questionnaire using online Google form is administered to the 79 students to see their perspective on learning grammar in 21stcentury mode. Further, the data are gathered in qualitative-descriptive method to find the appropriate criteria. This study meets a basic model preference to build a MALL-Based educational app that can support English grammar learning in Universitas Negeri Padang.  It can be concluded that the MALL for grammar should cover all teaching-learning elements like sources and assessments.

Abstract

Abstract: The value of local wisdom “Perdikan Cahyana” which became the philosophy and principles of life in society would be more meaningful if it was manifested in learning. As a form of local wisdom manifestation in learning of Indonesian and Literature subject, especially fiction material is to develop instructional material which was meaningful and relevant to the environment and local wisdom values of the students. This research used research and development (R&D) method to develop instructional material of fiction story that was suitable with the students’ cultural needs, contexts, and then it was validated based on the criteria of the eligibility of instructional material. The local wisdom integration in the instructional material did not damage the material content, but it could strenghten the material. The development of this instructional material based on the local wisdom of “Perdikan Cahyana” which was aimed to achieve the learning objectives and also to converse and internalize the values of local wisdom had meet the instructional material feasibility based on the elibility criteria of the contents, language and readability, materials presentation, and graphics.Keywords: fiction material, perdikan cahyana, local culture.

Abstract

This research focuses on exploring Balram’s success from the factor of his strategy in using symbolical capital. Society lives in the field where symbolic capital impact over the other capital. It can be also reflected in the story, from Balram’s life to the other characters he witnessed. Therefore, this research’s problem focuses on how Balram uses symbolic capital as his strategy to survive in society in Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger. To accommodate the analysis, the research uses Bourdieu’s theory of symbolical capital that explains its importance for Balram. This research is qualitative and the approach is phenomenological approach. The data are the quotation from the novel. The source of the data is Adiga’s The White Tiger. The technique of data collection is documentation. The technique of data analysis is interpretation. Based on the analysis, it can be resulted that symbolic capital is crucial to drag up someone’s life. Symbolic capital can be used as the strategy (class distinction) to survive in the field where capital is exchanged. Balram’s driving certificate, status, environment, and others have exposed how it adheres symbolical status. Other characters are also helpful in explaining how symbolical capital affects their life, especially in the issue of dominance.

Abstract

Dewi Lestari has a distinctive authorship in Supernova: Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh novel. This particularity can be seen in the construction of content and the use of linguistic aspects as a means of delivering ideas by Dewi Lestari. This research aims to describe the construction of themes and characters, and the form of linguistic aspects as Dewi Lestari's authorship in the Supernova: Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh novel. This research used descriptive-qualitative, and used stylistic approach. The finding of the research showed Dewi Lestari's authorship style in Supernova: Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh novel is "humanist, using telling-showing perspective duality method, scientific-futuristic lexical categories, and figurative language as a functional aesthetic". The results of the themes construction, showed that Supernova: Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh novel had a humanist style. Dewi Lestari constructs the characters using telling-showing perspective duality method. The linguistic aspect used by Dewi Lestari is a lexical scientific-futuristic pattern, and figurative language as a functional aesthetics. The results of this study can be used as an alternative literature learning material in 12th grade of high school. The utilization of the results of stylistic research as an alternative to literary learning material is the implementation of collaboration in understanding aspects of novel content and language as an effort to improve language skills.

Abstract

Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah kurangnya kemampuan guru dalam mendesain perencanaan  pembelajaran, model yang digunakan sangat terbatas, waktu belajar sangat terbatas, siswa kurang aktif dalam belajar, Kurangnya pemahaman siswa dalam belajar,Kurangnya kreativitas siswa dalam belajar musik dan belajar masih berpusat pada guru. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan dengan metode kualitatif Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah: Observasi, Wawancara, Dokumentasi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 1). Perencanaan dengan menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction guru telah menyiapkan (RPP), namun perlu ditingkatkan lagi baikdari segi penyusunan maupun penerapannya agar tujuan pembelajaran tercapai sesuai dengan apa yang diharap 2) Penggunaan Model Problem BasedInstructionadalah satu cara pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan tertentu dan untuk meningkatkan keaktifan siswa dalam belajar siswa. 3)Kendala Yang Dihadapi Guru Dalam Penggunaan Model Problem Based Instruction  terbatasnya kemampuan guru dalam mengatur waktu,guru belum dapat membuat semua siswa aktif

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the educational background of the author who influenced the novel The Lost Java by Kun Geia. Describe the socio-cultural background of the community contained in the novel The Lost Java by Kun Geia. Describe the reader response to the novel The Lost Java by Kun Geia. Describe the value of character education contained in the novel The Lost Java by Kun Geia. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with content analysis or content analysis. Data collection techniques with in-depth reading and interviews. Data validity using triangulation techniques, namely theory triangulation and data source triangulation. Data analysis techniques with interactive analysis techniques. The results showed that the author's high educational background. The socio-cultural background contained in the novel shows the social systems. The response of readers from expert and general readers, states the novel The Lost Java excels in the central theme, manifold science fiction, and can be used as teaching material. In addition, nine values of character education were found.

Abstract

This article was written based on the students’ problems in writing argumentative essays. Those problems were mostly concerned with the morphological errors committed by the students in their writings. There were six points of morphological errors that the researcher focused on; incorrect third person singular verbs, incorrect past form, incorrect indifinite article, incorrect past participle, incorrect comparative and incorrect possessive case (Dulay, 1982). The purpose of this research was to describe the morphological errors committed by the students in writing argumentative essays. This research was conducted at English Education Department of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat. The research findings showed that the six types of morphological errors stated above were found by the researcher in the students’ writings. Thus, it could be concluded that the students had lack of comprehension on morphological study in writing argumentative essays.
