Abstract

Character education remains central to educational reform, yet prior discussions of Ki Hadjar Dewantara often restate his ideas without critically connecting them to contemporary moral education. This qualitative literature review examines the relevance of Dewantara's concept of budi pekerti to current character education. Literature was identified through Google Scholar, ERIC, DOAJ, and publisher databases using Indonesian and English keywords related to Ki Hadjar Dewantara, moral education, values education, character education, digital citizenship, and multicultural education. The review covered peer-reviewed publications from 2019–2025 and included Dewantara's foundational educational work. Sources were selected for conceptual relevance, methodological clarity, and contribution to educational practice. Fifteen substantive sources were synthesized through reflexive thematic analysis. Four themes emerged: integrated moral development through thought, feeling, will, and action; moral formation through example, habituation, dialogue, and learner agency; the Tri-Center partnership among family, school, and community; and the extension of budi pekerti to digital citizenship, multicultural inclusion, and twenty-first-century competencies. The review's novelty lies in interpreting Dewantara's philosophy as a dynamic framework that combines local moral foundations with critical, democratic, and digitally responsible character education. Practically, the findings support curriculum integration, teacher modelling, participatory learning, and coordinated school-family-community programmes. The review concludes that Dewantara's philosophy remains relevant when implemented reflectively rather than as moral indoctrination.

Abstract

Gas leakage can create fire, explosion, and health hazards when it is not detected promptly. This study developed a laboratory-scale gas-leak detection prototype that integrates an MQ-2 metal-oxide sensor, Arduino Uno, 16×2 I2C LCD, audible and visual warnings, a relay, and an automatically activated exhaust fan. Prototype performance was evaluated through distance-based sensor-response tests, alarm-response-time trials, and time-resolved ventilation tests. The average MQ-2 output declined from 721.0 ADC counts at 5 cm to 150.0 ADC counts at 30 cm, indicating a consistent distance-dependent response under the reported test conditions. The warning chain activated in an average of 2.0 s. After fan activation, the average ADC response decreased by 46.7% after 30 s and 79.9% after 60 s relative to the initial reading. These percentages describe changes in relative sensor output, not calibrated gas concentration, because no certified reference-gas or parts-per-million calibration was performed. The prototype demonstrates the feasibility of combining local detection, warning logic, and automatic ventilation in one low-cost platform. It is intended as an educational and supervised proof of concept and should not be treated as a substitute for a certified combustible-gas detector or explosion-protected safety system.

Abstract

Generator sets (generators) are backup power sources that have an important role in maintaining operational and service continuity at the Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic when there is a disruption of electricity supply from PLN. The reliability and availability of generators are the main factors that determine the sustainability of educational activities, practicums, and campus facility operations. This study aims to analyze the reliability and availability of the Cummins Silent 500 KVA Generator Set engine based on operational and maintenance data during the January-December 2024 period. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach by utilizing data on operating hours, scheduled maintenance times, repair times due to damage, and number of component failures. The analysis was carried out using the indicators of Specified Operating Time (SOT), Actual Operating Time (AOT), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Reliability, and Availability. The results showed that the average reliability level of Generator Set 1 was 98.90%, while Generator Set 2 was 99.15%. The largest decrease in reliability occurred in Generator Set 1 in June with a value of 94.47%, which was caused by damage to several components thus increasing repair time. Meanwhile, the average availability rate of Generator Set 1 and Generator Set 2 reached 95.10% and 95.24%, respectively, indicating that both units still have a good level of operational readiness. The results of this study can be the basis for the preparation of preventive maintenance strategies and equipment performance evaluations to improve the reliability and continuity of electrical power supply at the Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic.

Abstract

This research examines the design of a Fiber to the Building (FTTB) network based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology using OptiSystem and Google Earth Pro. The network design and simulation were conducted for the Civil Engineering Department Building and the Telecommunication Laboratory Building at Politeknik Negeri Medan. Network performance was evaluated based on received optical power, attenuation, Bit Error Rate (BER), and Q-Factor. The simulation results show that the received optical power ranged from −19 dBm to −21 dBm. The total attenuation from the OLT to ONT1 through ODP1 was 22.601 dB, while the attenuation from the OLT to ONT2 through ODP2 was 21.588 dB. Both values were below the maximum optical loss budget of 28 dB used for GPON Class B+ evaluation. The obtained BER values ranged from 10⁻³⁷ to 10⁻²⁶, which were significantly lower than the feasibility criterion of 10⁻⁹. The Q-Factor values were also higher than the minimum criterion of 6. Based on the analysis, the designed FTTB network provides good signal quality and meets the technical feasibility criteria used in this study.

Abstract

Low-Level Wind Shear (LLWS) is one of the dangerous atmospheric phenomena that can interfere with flight safety, especially during takeoff and landing phases. This study aims to evaluate the potential of radiosonde data processed using RAOB software as a tool to predict the occurrence of LLWS in the Juanda International Airport area. The study used a correlational descriptive method with radiosonde data and LLWS incidence data from the LLWAS system for the 2023–2024 period. The results of the analysis showed that atmospheric parameters such as TPW, LCL, LI, and KI had a significant relationship with LLWS occurrence. The model produces a high precision value (0.99), but a low recall (0.35), which suggests that although the model is able to accurately identify LLWS, there are still many undetected LLWS events. Thus, radiosonde data has potential as an aid to LLWS prediction, but it needs to be further developed to improve its sensitivity and effectiveness in early warning systems.

Abstract

Aviation vocational education institutions must continuously adjust their programs, partnerships, and service portfolios to technological change and evolving industry competence requirements. This study analyzes the strategic development options of Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya using the Ansoff Matrix. A qualitative case-study design was employed. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with purposively selected internal and external stakeholders, direct observation of academic and training activities, and analysis of institutional strategic plans, performance reports, accreditation records, and cooperation documents. The data were analyzed through thematic coding and subsequently mapped to the four Ansoff strategies: market penetration, market development, product development, and diversification. Triangulation and member checking were used to enhance credibility. The findings indicate that product development and market development offer the strongest medium-term combination of feasibility and strategic impact. Priority initiatives include upgrading selected study programs, developing short courses in unmanned aircraft systems, airport operations, rescue and firefighting, and aviation cybersecurity, modernizing laboratories and simulators, and expanding cooperation with aviation organizations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Diversification through applied research centers, a digital academy, startup incubation, and professional consulting offers long-term value but requires stronger governance, specialist staff, and sustainable financing. The study is novel in adapting the product-market logic of the Ansoff Matrix to an aviation vocational education context and in proposing a staged institutional growth portfolio. Practically, the findings provide institutional leaders with a risk-sensitive roadmap for strengthening graduate relevance, international reach, innovation capacity, and institutional competitiveness.

Abstract

Fatigue is a critical human-factors hazard in flight training because it can impair attention, procedural memory, communication, and aircraft control. This study examined the dominant causes of fatigue among cadet pilots at the Indonesian Aviation Academy Banyuwangi, the strategies used to manage it, and the institutional implications for flight training safety. A descriptive qualitative case-study design was supported by an exploratory questionnaire, direct observation of training schedules, semi-structured interviews, and a literature review. Thirty-one cadets in the CPL-IR phase with more than 50 flight hours completed a seven-item questionnaire, and four cadets representing the participating cohorts completed interviews guided by 15 questions. Questionnaire data were summarized using frequencies, while interview and observation data were analyzed through data condensation, thematic display, and conclusion verification. Twenty-nine of 31 cadets reported experiencing fatigue. The most frequently reported contributors were insufficient sleep (13 responses), high physical workload (10), and insufficient nutrition (8). Concentration and procedural disruption were the most common consequences (18 responses). Interviews further showed that compressed schedules, consecutive flight, simulator, academic, hangar, and dormitory duties created cumulative fatigue, while institutional responses to fatigue reporting were inconsistent. The study is novel in framing cadet fatigue as an interaction between individual recovery practices and institutional scheduling conditions. It recommends an academy-level Fatigue Risk Management System incorporating non-punitive reporting, schedule-risk assessment, pre-flight fitness checks, protected rest, and nutrition and hydration support.

Abstract

This study examines the failure of the ego to regulate id-dominated impulses in the father character in Danarto’s short story Godlob through Sigmund Freud’s structural model of personality. A qualitative interpretive textual analysis was conducted on the complete short story. Six excerpts were purposively selected because they represent instinctual demand, rationalization, moral inhibition, traumatic setting, interpersonal resistance, and social grievance. The data were coded into four analytical categories—id dominance, ego failure, superego weakening, and contextual pressure—and interpreted through repeated close reading and contextual comparison. The findings show a sequential psychological mechanism: repeated loss and wartime violence intensify the father’s demand for recognition; the ego then ceases to mediate reality and instead rationalizes the id’s destructive desire; and the superego is displaced by an ideology of heroism that converts filicide into an allegedly meaningful sacrifice. The study’s novelty lies in tracing this mechanism as a narrative process rather than merely identifying separate examples of the id, ego, and superego. Theoretically, the analysis demonstrates that ego failure in the story is both intrapsychic and socially produced. Practically, the findings support the use of psychoanalytic reading in literary education to develop critical discussion of trauma, moral responsibility, violence, and ideological manipulation.

Abstract

The zoning-based Student Admission Policy (Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru, PPDB) was introduced to improve geographical access and reduce inequalities among Indonesian schools, yet its implementation has generated mixed responses from parents. This structured qualitative literature review examines parental perceptions, satisfaction and objections, and the effects of zoning on elementary-school choice. The analytical corpus comprised 15 topic-specific scholarly publications issued between 2019 and 2025, supplemented by two official policy and international education reports. Sources were identified through Google Scholar, SINTA, relevant publisher platforms, and official education websites using Indonesian and English search terms. Publications were included when they addressed school admissions, parental perceptions, implementation quality, school choice, or educational equity at the elementary or compulsory-education level. Data were synthesized through deductive-inductive thematic coding. Four themes emerged: perceived benefits of proximity and equitable access; restrictions on parental choice; implementation quality, information, and technical barriers; and contextual inequalities in school quality and family resources. The review's novelty lies in integrating parental perception, public-service satisfaction, and educational-equity perspectives into one conceptual model. The findings indicate that zoning is more likely to receive parental support when school quality is relatively even, procedures are transparent, and families receive accessible and personalized information. Conversely, unequal school quality and weak implementation can convert a formally equitable policy into a source of distrust and strategic behavior. The review contributes a policy-oriented framework for improving communication, complaint handling, digital registration, and quality equalization across schools.

Abstract

Assessment of basic numeracy is essential for identifying students' foundational mathematical competence and for supporting instructional decisions. However, very high test scores may conceal limited measurement sensitivity when an instrument contains many low-difficulty items. This study examined an existing 25-item basic numeracy assessment by interpreting highly concentrated score distributions and proportion-correct values (p-values) as preliminary indicators of item difficulty. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied to data from 35 participants. Because the available dataset did not support formal reliability estimation, item discrimination indices, distractor analysis, or IRT/CDM modelling, the analysis was limited to total-score distribution, item-level proportion-correct values, and documentary review of item explanations. Results showed strong upper-end score concentration: scores ranged from 19 to 25 (M = 23.6, SD = 1.83), and 51.4% of participants achieved the maximum score. Items 11, 18, and 19 were answered correctly by all participants, whereas Items 24 and 10 produced the lowest correct-response rates but remained easy overall (85.7% and 88.6%). Item 17 was flagged for possible ambiguity in the answer explanation. The findings indicate that the instrument functions adequately as a baseline mastery check but has limited capacity to differentiate higher-performing students. The study contributes practical evidence for revising classroom-based numeracy instruments through more balanced item difficulty, clearer keying logic, and future validation using larger samples and stronger psychometric evidence.
