Abstract

This research aims to optimize algebraic thinking in elementary school students through the application of a generative learning model. The research approach uses an experimental method with a post-test-only design. The research was conducted on grade V students of SD Negeri Kalisari 03, which consisted of 64 students from two classes which were then divided into 2 groups, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data analysis was carried out with descriptive and inferential statistics, with the help of SPSS, first a prerequisite test was carried out, namely a normality test and a homogeneity test, and the hypothesis of this research was carried out using the two-track variance analysis (ANOVA) method. The results of the study showed an increase by obtaining a significance value of less than 0.05 with a mean square of 476,190. This means that the KBA of students who learn using the Generative model is better compared to students who learn using the Expository model. The application of the generative learning model can improve students' algebraic thinking skills in two indicators of algebraic thinking ability, namely: generalizing the arithmetic pattern of a problem and understanding mathematical modeling from the four indicators used in this study.

Abstract

Word matrices are tables that organize vocabulary and language concepts to aid acquisition. This study addresses the gap in understanding their effectiveness in Indonesian schools with limited resources. While extensive research exists on their use in metropolitan areas, little is known about their application in diverse educational contexts within Indonesia. By examining the five-year implementation at a private junior high school, this study aims to provide insights into their efficacy in resource-constrained environments. This mixed methods case study evaluated students' and teachers' perceptions over five years. The study involved 276 students in grades 7-9 and 5 teachers, with surveys and interviews from 36 students and 3 teachers selected through stratified sampling. Results showed over 90% of students used matrices weekly, with higher usage in advanced grades. Over 75% believed matrices significantly improved vocabulary and reading comprehension. However, weaker students reported minimal gains in writing and speaking fluency. Interviews highlighted that colorful grid designs and peer interactions engaged students but lacked focus on writing and proper transition support. Teachers recommended better alignment, targeted matrices, and activities to enhance academic writing, grammar, and speaking. Thus, matrices aid vocabulary and reading but need adjustments to benefit all learners.

Abstract

The literature study research methodology was used in this research. Experts including Gibson, Campbell, Mathis, and Jackson explain the theory of performance factors. Next, a search was carried out using relevant published research findings to evaluate and convey research findings to strengthen previously existing theories. It can be concluded that there are two categories that can be used to group factors that influence teacher performance: internal factors, namely elements that come from the teacher. Apart from that, there are external factors—namely elements that cannot be controlled. Family history, talents, social experiences, demographics, knowledge, self-confidence, drive, personality, role perception, attitude, job happiness, and each person's level of commitment and responsibility are examples of internal factors. The following are examples of external factors: organizational factors (job design, reward structure, organizational structure, and leadership); team factors (quality of support and enthusiasm provided); and leadership factors (the quality of encouragement, enthusiasm, direction, and support provided by managers and Team Leaders). offered by teammates in one team, mutual trust between teammates, cohesiveness and closeness of teammates), contextual factors (pressure and changes in the external environment), system factors (work systems, work facilities, or infrastructure provided by the organization, organizational processes, and performance culture in organizations).

Abstract

Code-switching in the teaching and learning process is a natural phenomenon, meaning the teacher changes the language during the teaching and learning process, either from Indonesian to English or vice versa.  The current study was intended to discover the types and functions of code-switching used by English teachers in classroom interaction. This type of research is qualitative. The subject of the study is an English teacher who teaches English in Grade 11 at a private high school in Kupang, Indonesia. The research data were collected through class observation and recording of the teacher’s utterances during the teaching-learning process.  The study uncovers three types of code-switching i.e.: tag switching, inter-sentential, code-switching, and intra-sentential code-switching. Of the three types, intra-sentential code-switching was the most dominantly used by the teacher. The study also found the functions of code-switching used by the teacher in classroom teaching namely repetition, explanation, asking, and translation. The most dominant function of code-switching used by the teacher was translation. It is recommended that English teachers may employ code-switching in learning activities according to the needs and the level of ability of the students.  By doing code-switching, the learning process can run smoothly, and the desired goals can be achieved.
