Abstract

In developing societies, the elderly in Indonesia are generally cared for by their own families traditionally. However, that does not appear to the transgender community in their old age. The discrimination experienced by waria (transgender in Bahasa, red.) begins when they decide to follow their identity as a woman at an early age. During their lifetime, transgender women frequently get discrimination and rejection from the social environment, which causes them to be unable to function socially in a proper way. Fortunately, those experiences are not the case for elderly transgender who lives under the protection of Anak Raja Transgender Shelter established by the Indonesian Transgender Communication Forum (FKWI). This study examines how elderly transgender women in Anak Raja Transgender Shelter can function socially and be accepted by the environment. The case of positive deviance that occurs in elderly transgender women, in social science studies, is said as a case of Positive Deviance. This research is a qualitative study that applies in-depth interviews for data collection. The main informants are elderly transgender women who are more than 60 years old and have been under the protection of Anak Raja Waria Shelter for at least 1 year. Social functioning in the elderly is a multidimensional concept so that the assessment requires several things to be explored such as social support, social networks, social resources, social roles, role functioning, and social activities. This study found that elderly transgender women at the Anak Raja Waria Shelter can fulfill the five assessments because the strong social support comes from both the community itself and the social environment in where they live.

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to determine the influence of ease of pay later, lifestyle and impulse buying on student consumptive behavior from an Islamic economic perspective. This research is quantitative research using multiple linear analysis. The population in this study were FEBI UINSU North Sumatra students. The sample in the research was carried out through probability sampling so that 98 respondents were obtained. Data sources were obtained through primary and secondary data. The research results show that the use of pay later, lifestyle and impulse buying significantly influence the consumer behavior of students at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) of the North Sumatra State Islamic University (UINSU). The ease of use of the pay later system encourages students to make unplanned purchases, while lifestyles influenced by social trends encourage them to buy goods that are not in accordance with their actual needs. The combination of both with impulsive shopping tendencies results in excessive and unplanned spending. In Islamic law, pay later is said to be usury because there are additional costs involved in the transaction. So pay later is prohibited in Islam according to MUI Fatwa No. 117/DSN-MUI/II/2018 and Surah Ar-Rum Paragraph 39.

Abstract

The development of biodiesel in Indonesia is increasing judging from consumption and export data to meet energy and fuel needs. The high cost of the biodiesel production process can be overcome by using waste cooking oil as a raw material. The use of waste cooking oil as biodiesel is an environmentally friendly action because it reduces environmental pollution. The method used in writing this article is a literature study by collecting data and information from various journals with the aim of explaining the processing of waste cooking oil into biodiesel. The catalysts used are acid and base catalysts (homogeneous, heterogeneous) and enzyme catalysts. Waste cooking oil can be converted into biodiesel by going through the transesterification stage. Under optimal conditions, used cooking oil as a raw material for biodiesel produces the highest methyl ester content of 98.94% using a heterogeneous base catalyst, namely ATKKS. The final conversion of biodiesel is affected by several parameters such as reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratio of alcohol to oil, amount of fatty acids, moisture content and catalyst used.
