This research is aimed to find out how the use of Contextual Semantic Analysis could be implemented in learning the Extensive Reading at the English Students of the Sixth Semester of English Education Department of Unismuh Makassar. Therefore, the research described the students’ perception and understanding on Contextual Semantic Analysis and its positive influence on their application of comprehending the meaning of difficult words or sentences in reading extensively a novel. The method used in this research is Descriptive Method. This research attends to describe the relation among the students’ perception on Contextual Semantic Analysis, symbolized with X and their application in comprehending the meaning of difficult words symbolized with Y. The data collecting has been done through questionnaire and reading comprehension test. Descriptive analysis was employed to analyse the data collected. The result of this research shown that most of students (60%) have good perception and understanding on Contextual Semantic Analysis and influence their application of Contextual Semantic Analysis in comprehending the meaning of difficult words in reading extensively a novel at 6th Semester of English Education Department Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, it was shown in correctness level the students achieved on 80% until 95% with the meaning of the dictionary. This result is also expected to be useful practically in the Extensive Reading, because it is not suggested to open dictionary and by knowing and using this analysis, the students are expected to make the language learning of Extensive Reading be pleasure and enjoyable.

Controversial and Unresolved Topic Method (Cut) To Improve the Students’ Speaking Ability at Second Grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Makassar. The objective of the research will find out the improvement students’ speaking ability by Controversial and Unresolved Topic (CUT) Method at the second grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Makassar. This research will use Classroom Action Research that consisted two cycles. The research population was the second grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Makassar academic year 2013/2014. The sample of this research consisted of 24 students. The researcher will obtain the data by using speaking test and observation sheet. The reason why this research focuses on the controversial and unresolved topic method was that it will give the students motivation to study English special in English skill. Besides that this method will make the students become more confident to express their ideas, more friendship among others, and all the students can connect a good atmosphere.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar peningkatan hasil belajar Fisika siswa kelas XI SMA Pesantren Putri Yatama Mandiri Kabupaten Gowa yang telah diajar dengan pendekatan keterampilan proses sains dasar. Jenis penelitian ini termasuk kategori penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research) yang bersifat deskriptif. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Pesantren Putri Yatama Mandiri tahun ajaran 2015/2016 dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 24. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus yaitu siklus I dan siklus II, masing – masing terdiri dari 7 kali pertemuan. Untuk mengumpulkan data yang diperlukan, digunakan lembar observasi setiap pertemuan dan tes hasil belajar fisika sebagai instrumen penelitian pada akhir setiap siklus. Tes hasil belajar fisika tiap siklus terdiri dari tiga puluh soal pilihan ganda. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh dari tes hasil belajar dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian cenderung mengungkapkan bahwa keterampilan proses sains dasar melalui berbagai perubahan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar fisika siswa dari satu siklus ke siklus berikutnya. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan meningkatnya hasil belajar fisika siswa kelas XI SMA Pesantren Putri Yatama Mandiri pada siklus I mencapai 50% meningkat menjadi 79,17% pada siklus II serta terdapatnya siswa yang memiliki skor hasil belajar yang mencapai kategori sangat tinggi.

The objectives of the research were to find out the function and the types of English teacher repetition in the classroom interaction and it focused on the psycholinguistic discipline. Based on the Tannen (2007) theory there are six types of repetition, they are (1) participatory listenership, (2) ratifying listenership, (3) humor, (4) savoring, (5) stalling, and (6) expanding. In another side that Tannen (2007) categorize the function of repetition they are (1) production, (2) comprehension, (3) Connection, (4) interaction. The results of the research are just some of types that teacher used in the classroom interaction, they are: participatory and ratifying listenership, it means that the students receive and understand what the teacher said and when the speaker says several words and it could be repeated by the listener just a part of the speaker’s words or the speaker incorporates the repeated phrases into their own sentence. About the functions are just production and connection.

This research is descriptive method, it aimed to give description about the effectiveness of ELT Podcast in encouraging the students’ motivation in learning listening skill at Students’ of Class XI MA GUPPI Samata, Gowa. The treatment in this research was giving ELT Podcast focus to dialog material for six meeting. After that, the researcher used the questionnaire to collect the data of sample to determine the motivation of students in studying listening. The instrument was questionnaire, it used to get the students’ motivation in learning listening through ELT podcast. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items and they were divided into two statements; they are 15 positive statements and 5 negative statements. After doing the research, the researcher found that the students had a high motivation in learning listening by using ELT Podcast at Students’ of Class XI MA GUPPI Samata, Gowa. This statement was proved by the finding of the data through using a questionnaire that showed the students’ response was dominated by strongly agreed and agree there were 15 students (51.72%) chose high motivation, 14 students (48.28%) chose very high motivation and the mean score of questionnaire is 79. Based on these data, the researcher concluded that ELT Podcast is a good media that should be considered to be applied in the English classroom, because it showed a good interest on the students in learning listening.

Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mengkaji efektivitas penggunaan media berita dalam pembelajaran keterampilan menulis narasi; (2) mengkaji efektivitas penggunaan media gambar dalam pembelajaran keterampilan menulis narasi (3) membuktikan perbedaan efektivitas keterampilan menulis teks narasi antara media berita dengan media gambar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksprimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 1 Sinjai tahun ajaran 2013/2014 yang berjumlah 537 siswa yang tersebar ke dalam lima jurusan. Penarikan sampel dilakukan dengan random dengan jumlah yang representatif pada kelas penelitian tanpa memperhatikan strata yang ada dalam populasi. Peneliti menetapkan kelas XI TKJ-1 sebanyak 27 siswa sebagai kelas ekspriment dan kelas XI TKJ-2 sebanyak 19 siswa yang menjadi sampel penelitian dengan pertimbangan bahwa kedua kelas tersebut mempunyai karakteristik yang homogen,. Jumlah sampel seluruhnya sebanyak 19 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes. Data yang telah dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial parametrik jenis Paired Sampel T Test yang diolah dengan program komputer sistem Statistical Product Services Solution (SPSS) versi 20 windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Pertama, hasil belajar keterampilan menulis narasi siswa dengan media berita menunjukkan perolehan nilai siswa yang sudah cukup baik, Kedua, Hasil belajar pada keterampilan menulis narasi dengan media gambar menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan, dapat disimpulkan terdapat perbedaan pretest dan postest pada kelas kontrol. Ketiga, dari hasil analisis data tersebut terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan keterampilan menulis narasi antara penggunaan media berita dengan media gambar pada siswa. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran keterampilan menulis narasi dengan menggunakan media berita lebih efektif digunakan.

The objective of the study was to find out the students’ achievement and motivation toward reading comprehension by using humor story. The researcher applied a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade of SMK Negeri 6 Bulukumba year 2017-2018. The sample consist 17 students. This research was conducted for eight meetings. The data were collected through test where humor story is one of material that usually used to find out the significance of the students achievement in reading comprehension and questionnaire test use to find out the students motivation in reading comprehension. The result of the data analysis showed that there was significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The researcher’s findings indicated that humor story was enhanced students reading comprehension in terms of interpretive comprehension. It was provided by the students’ mean score in pre-test was 5.55 and post-test 7.41. it showed that the students’ reading comprehension in post-test was higher than pre-test. The value of t-test was 9.31 and it was greater than t-table 2.120 at the level of significance (p) = 0.5 with degree of freedom (df) = N – 1 = 16 where N = 17 students. It was found that the result of t-test value was higher than the t-table (9.31>2.120). It means that the alternative Hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In other words, humor story can be used to enhance students’ reading comprehension skill. Besides, students’ motivation score in reading comprehension was dominant in competition in reading were the mean score 65.25. It can be concluded that the used humor story approach was able to give greater contribution in teaching and learning reading comprehension.

Adapun tujuan penelitian ini yang ingin dicapai adalah; Untuk menemukan penyebab terjadinya kepunahan Bahasa Laiyolo, dan untuk menciptakan bentuk konservasi dalam mencegah kepunahan Bahasa Laiyolo. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yakni suatu metode dalam meneliti suatu obyek, suatu sistem pemikiran atau suatu kilas peristiwa pada masa sekarang. Terancam punahnya bahasa Laiyolo disebabkan karena beberapa factor diantanya yaitu factor urbanisasi dan perkawinan antar etnis, kurangnya sosialisasi orang tua dalam memperkenalkan bahasa ibu mereka, remaja yang sudah tidak tertarik mempelajari bahasa Laiyolo karena mereka menganggap bahasanya yang begitu lebay (berlebihan) dalam hal pengucapannya, kebijakan pemerintah dalam penggunaan bahasa dalam pendidikan serta tekanan bahasa dominan dalam suatu wilayah masyarakat multibahasa yang berdampingan dan dampak arus globalisasi yang menyebabkan berkurangnya penutur bahasa Laiyolo. Bahasa Laiyolo yang sudah terancam punah memerlukan konservasi agar bahasa ini tetap lestari dan tetap digunakan oleh masyarakat Kab. Kepulauan Selayar. Ada beberapa konservasi yang ditawarkan oleh penulis yaitu mengangkat bahasa daerah Laiyolo kedalam bentuk tulisan sastra seperti cerpen, novel, puisi, komik dan sebagainya. Selain itu, penulis juga berencana membuat pondok bahasa Laiyolo baik itu di Selayar maupun di luar Selayar agar bahasa Laiyolo tetap dapat dipelajari oleh masyarakat Sulawesi Selatan sekalipun mereka tidak berada di lokasi secara langsung. Bentuk konservasi yang lain yaitu memadukan bahasa laiyolo ke dalam bentuk permainan edukatif seperti permainan ular tangga dan kuartet yang menggunakan bahasa Laiyolo.

Willingness to communicate (WTC) has important roles in students’ learning. It refers to the personal variable which can affect students’ learning process and at the last stage affect students’ speaking achievement. The purpose of the research was to find out the willingness to communicate as a students’ personality through students’ response in scoring system of designed questionnaire and effectiveness of information gap technique as a teaching method to improve students’ speaking achievement. The population of this research was 368 students from 10 classes at the second semester, English Department, at the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. This research was quasi-experimental. The sample was taken by purposive sampling. The total sample was 24 for the experimental group and 19 for the control group. Data collected from two groups of students, experimental and the control group that had been analyzed by three raters and tabulated in the table of students’ score was tabulated in Excel 2007 (Windows program and analyzed in IBM statistical package and service solution (SPPSS 20). The findings showed that there was a significant difference between pretest and post test of the experimental group while the control group that was not the significant difference between pretest and posttest. It proved that Information gap technique based on WTC improved the students’ speaking achievement.

Konflik merupakan keniscayaan sejarah dan berpeluang muncul di tengah masyarakat. Makna positif konflik berupa terjadinya perubahan sosial, makna negatif berupa kerenggangan sosial dan kekerasan. Dalam kaitannya dengan konflik sosial, perlu dilakukan pendekatan resolusi konflik berbasis nilai-nilai kearifan lokal (local wisdom). Resolusi konflik berbasis nilai-nilai kearifan lokal diakui sebagai elemen-elemen penting yang mampu mempertebal kohesi sosial di antara warga masyarakat dan berfungsi sebagai perekat atau kohesi sosial antara satu sama lain yang mengintegrasikan manusia ke dalam satu ikatan moral yang kolektif. Dalam realitasnya, kearifan lokal pada masyarakat Sulawesi Selatan mampu menjadi basis kohesivitas sosial yang mengintegrasikan masyarakat dalam kondisinya yang multikultur dan multiagama. Dengan kata lain potensi kearifan lokal sesungguhnya dapat digunakan sebagai resolusi konflik untuk kasus konflik antarkelompok etnik maupun konfil bernuansa keagamaan dengan karakteristik daerah yang relatif sama. Resolusi konflik dengan menggunakan pendekatan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dapat dikatakan efektif karena sudah mengakar dan menjadi pedoman dalam masyarakat.
