Focus and Scope WASKITA: Jurnal Pendidikan Nilai dan Pembangunan Karakter is published by the Center of Character Building Subject, Brawijaya University. WASKITA has been published offline since July 2017 and online since April 2019. In the next publication, this journal will be published twice a year on April and on October. WASKITA accepts research and conceptual papers related to values education and character building. Those values are mores, philosophical, religious, social, linguistic and literature, civil and nationalistic values. This journal also accepts literature review, book review, in depth interview of influential figure or seminar note related to values education and character building.

Abstract

The significance of character values as shapers of the personality of the nation's golden generation can never be divorced from the actors involved as agents of socialization. This article seeks to explore the character values developed by housewives in the practice of the "otang tengka" tradition in Besuki Village, Besuki District, Situbondo Regency. The method employed is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Informants were selected through purposive sampling to obtain relevant data. The research findings indicate that the character values developed by housewives in the practice of the "otang tengka" tradition are responsibility, cooperation, work ethic, and self-reliance. These character values are brought forth by housewives due to the demands of the "otang tengka" tradition, which compel them to participate in various tasks. In other words, the local tradition holds positive significance in the emergence of character values, making it worthy of preservation.

Abstract

Talking about the character that everyone has is different. This is because character is influenced by the environment and from the family. As for the good and bad of character because of the morality possessed, a person's righteousness comes from the character he has. The issue of character is a problem that occurs a lot. In this study, researchers used a qualitative approach with the type of research being class action research (PTK). Based on the data on the results of the study, it can be explained that there was an increase in student character index both in religious character, discipline, and responsibility with an average increase of 6%. Thus, reward and punishment methods can improve student character. This is shown from the results of observations during learning and assessment from student character observation sheets. Three basic characters in grade V students of SDN 01 Junrejo Kota Batu in experiencing improvements in each cycle. The rate of increase is 6%.

Abstract

The escalating issue of demoralization within the younger generation in Indonesia is exacerbated by the diminishing character values, often attributed to the pervasive influence of globalization. Recognizing the inadequacy of character education in schools, there is a pressing need for more engaging and interactive approaches to instill character in the youth. One promising avenue is leveraging games, given the prevalent engagement of young people in this activity. Among the various game genres, role-playing games (RPGs) stand out as particularly popular. This study, utilizing a literature review research method with descriptive analysis, aims to elucidate the implementation of RPG-based educational games as a medium for character education in the younger generation. The literature study findings underscore the potential of RPGs to serve as effective character education tools for adolescents, stimulating essential aspects such as ethical thinking, moral reasoning, value systems, friendship, self-scaffolding, and metacognition.

Abstract

This article elaborates on the narrative that contrasts religion and Pancasila which has recently become stronger. This is marked by rejection by some groups who consider Pancasila an idol or taghut that must be fought. On the other hand, some express problematic views, such as in the KPK national test by asking which position is higher, between the Koran and Pancasila. This research is qualitative-descriptive with a hermeneutic approach, namely the researcher describes the narrative of the conflict and interprets it from a reproductive interpretive point of view. The theoretical basis used to obtain a complete picture and analysis of the conflict narrative is Pancasila philosophy, especially Pancasila epistemology. This theory is used to describe the source of the conflicting narrative, the structure of the conflicting narrative, and the validity of the conflicting narrative. The results of this research show that epistemic reproduction in narratives that position religion as higher than Pancasila, or conversely that Pancasila is higher than religion occurs in different forms and networks of power. In the first narrative, epistemic reproduction is intertwined with the ideas of Islamism and religious populism. Meanwhile, in the second narrative, epistemic reproduction is intertwined with the idea of radical nationality because the Republic of Indonesia is dead. The reproduction of the conflict narrative continues to be reproduced, even though in different contexts or times but is the same in terms of the substance of the conflict.

Abstract

The current environmental equilibrium requires global and national solutions. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of community-based environmental character care in Umbulharjo State SD 2, as well as its supportive and inhibitory factors. This research uses a type of descriptive research qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of the head of the school, parents, CFP accompanying, teachers, and students of class VI A at the Umbulharjo State SD 2. Data collection on the study was done through observations, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study uses source triangulation and triangulation techniques. The data is then analyzed using a data analysis model according to Miles and Huberman that includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion and verification. The results of this study show that the implementation of community-based environmental caring character in pupils in Umbulharjo State SD 2 was realized through the collaboration of parents and OISCA. Collaboration is carried out through community-based character-enhancing education implementation measures that include: 1) Identification and analysis of school needs; 2) Identifying community participation; 3) building networks and collaboration; 4) designing character enhancement educational activities; 5) Program implementation; 6) Program evaluation; and 7) Maintaining the sustainability of collaboration. Factors supporting the collaboration include the availability of extensive land, the enthusiasm of school citizens, and the presence of support from partners. Implementation of community-based environmental caring character in Umbulharjo State SD 2 through collaboration between parents, OISCA, and schools, highlights the importance of active participation of the community in addressing environmental gaps at the local level.

Abstract

There are two main moral values that represent other moral values in forming character in educational settings, namely respect and responsibility. Even though in practice teachers have made efforts to teach character education in schools, currently in Indonesia there are still minimal instruments that can describe the effectiveness of instilling attitudes of respect and responsibility carried out by students, teachers, school staff and parents. This research aims to adapt the Respect & Responsibility School Culture Survey instrument, compiled by Davidson, Lickona, & Khmelkov (2004). This instrument measures the perceptions of students, teachers, school staff and parents regarding school culture regarding the extent to which other people in the school environment show mutually respectful and responsible behavior. Respondents in this study were elementary school students in grades 5 and 6 (N = 1096), parents and teachers and staff (N = 295) who lived in Bandung City. The test results show this instrument is reliable. The validity test also showed that the instrument for adult respondents had 15 valid items and the instrument for child respondents had 21 valid items. This instrument can be used to describe the implementation of character education in elementary schools in Indonesia

Abstract

Gender often becomes an issue in assuming roles in family resilience. Some people believe that maintaining household stability is a responsibility solely entrusted to the husband. However, one of the factors contributing to divorce is the imbalance in household stability resulting from the lack of roles among family members in maintaining family resilience and well-being. This study aims to explore how family resilience education operates in Kemantren Village, Malang Regency. Simultaneously, this article also seeks to examine the implications of gender perspectives on the community in Kemantren Village. The research method used is qualitative, with a sociological approach. This study involves 27 individuals as informants who will fill out questionnaires and also serve as interview subjects to understand the state of family resilience education in Kemantren Village. The study findings indicate that women's roles in the family not only influence overall family dynamics but can also be crucial factors in facing challenges and strengthening family resilience. The insights from family resilience education in Kemantren Village have had a positive impact on the sustainability of their households. Considering women's roles in the context of family resilience is one essential step in addressing the divorce trend in Indonesia

Abstract

The Strengthening of Character Education is one of the programs that aims to realize the goals of national education. This research focuses on strengthening religious character education through the PAI Tutorial program implemented at the Indonesian Education University. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this research indicate the process of strengthening character education through the UPI PAI tutorial program for students who are taking PAI courses. The religious characteristics that are most visibly strengthened include faith, piety, tolerance, trustworthiness, and hard work. The process of strengthening character education is carried out through habituation, exemplification, and the internalization of positive values. The problems encountered in the implementation of this program are the insufficient of quality and quantity of tutors and the lack of awareness among participants

Abstract

This research aims to find out the character education values in the book Insecurity is My Middle Name by Alvi Syahrin and find out its relevance to Islamic religious education. The type of research used in this study is library research, where data sources are obtained from library research. The data collection technique uses documentation techniques, namely data collection obtained from primary data, namely the book Insecurity is My Middle Name by Alvi Syahrin, and secondary data, books that have similar discussions and can complement and answer problems. The data validity technique used is theoretical triangulation, while the analysis used is content analysis. The results showed that the character education values in the book Insecurity is My Middle Name by Alvi Syahrin are; Character (a) religious (b) Nationalist (c) Independent (d) cooperation (e) Integrity. The eleven character education values also have relevance to Islamic religious education, especially on the values of; (1) faith (2) Sharia (3) morals.

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of strengthening the ecosocial concept to prevent and reduce the impact of flooding in the Bandulan area, Malang. The Bandulan area, Malang often experiences floods. To find out the consequences and impacts of floods, we conducted observations and interviews with local residents. Through these observations and interviews, it is known that flooding occurs due to high rainfall, a lot of scattered garbage, and an ineffective drainage system. Meanwhile, the impact of floods includes damage to infrastructure, disruption of community activities, loss of property, and even risks to the safety of residents' lives. In this article, we propose an ecosocial approach that involves the interaction between ecological and social aspects to deal with the problem of flooding. This approach recognizes that solutions to flooding problems cannot rely solely on technical efforts, but also pay attention to human relationships with the surrounding natural environment. Measures such as increased public awareness, restoration of natural ecosystems, and sustainable urban planning can help achieve these goals. Hopefully, this article can provide useful insights and recommendations for the government, community, and other related parties in dealing with flood problems in the Malang Bandulan area.
