Abstract

Cigarettes is a source of free radicals that can cause oxidative stress. It can causefunctional failure of vital organs in the body including the liver that indicated by SGPT andSGOT increment. This research was aimed to observe the activity of 70% ethanol extract ofkemuning leaves (Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack) on SGPT and SGOT digression of male whiterats exposed by cigarette smoke.This research was performed using 25 rats that were divided into 5 groups: normalcontrol (Ko), negative control (Kn), and 3 treatment groups that were given 70% ethanol extractof kemuning leaves with 100 mg / KgBW (K1), 200 mg / KgBW (K2), and 400 mg / KgBW(K3).The SGPT and SGOT levels were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey test.One-way ANOVA results showed there was a treatment effect on controls (p <0.05).The results of the Tukey showed that the SGPT levels in doses II and III were significantlydifferent from the negative controls but did not differ significantly from the normal controls withlevel value of 34.6 U / L (dose II) and 14.4 U / L (dose III) . At SGOT levels all treatment groupsshowed significantly different comparing to negative controls and not significantly different tonormal controls with level value of 193.6 U / L (dose I), 191.4 U / L (dose II), 156.6 U / L L (doseIII). It can be concluded that 70% ethanol extract of kemuning leaves has activity as ahepatoprotector

Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the pathogens which are gram negative bacteria andthat causes pneumonia. Treatment of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterial infection is performedthrough the use of antibiotics. The phenomenon of resistance has encouraged the search fornatura-based antimicrobials where one of the plants with antibacterial potency is suruhan(Peperomia pellucida L. Kunth).The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity, the value of theMinimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the Minimum Killer Concentration (KBM) from theleaf extract of suruhan leaves on Klebsiella pneumoniae using a liquid dilution method. Theextraction method used in this study was maceration. The extract obtained tested with aconcentration of 100%; 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.125%; 1.562%; 0.781%; 0.391% and0.195% (v / v).The results showed that leaf extract had antibacterial activity against Klebsiellapneumoniae with a KBM value of 25%.

Abstract

Urinary tract infection is one of the infectious diseases that occur due to the presenceof microorganisms in the urine. Urinary tract infection financing was regulated in the INA-CBG’srates. The study purpose was determined the conformity of real cost to the INA-CBG’s rates inhospitalized of national health insurance patients with urinary tract infection disease in Dr.Moewardi hospital Surakarta in 2016.This study was an observational study using a cross sectional design. Retrospectivedata collection method. Data were analyzed to see the treatment pattern of patients duringhospitalization, to find the difference in real costs with INA-CBG's rates using the one sample ttest,and to see factors related to real costs using the bivariate correlation test.The result showed that the treatment pattern for hospitalized patients with urinary tractinfection are using Ceftriaxone (40,8%), Cefixime (7,1%), Ceftazidime (10,2%), Ciprofloxacin(26,5%), Levofloxacin (9,2%), Amoxicillin (3,1%), Ampicillin (1,0%), and Gentamicin (2,0%). Theanalysis of real cost to the INA-CBG’s rates showed the differences between real cost and INACBG’srate of national health insurance patients with urinary tract infection disease.This difference shows a positive condition, where the total real costs are lower than the INACBG'srates. The factor related to the real cost of urinary tract infection treatment including ofLOS, secondary diagnoses, and treatment classes.

Abstract

Drug management is an important process in public health service. Inappropriate drugmanagement may exert negative effect on the quality of healthcare service in a District/City. Thepurpose of this study was to provide an overview and evaluation of drug supply managementthat includes: selection, procurement, distribution, and use in Pharmacy Installatio of SurakartaHealth Department.Data was collected retrospectively by tracing the documenst from previous years. Allprocess of selection, procurement, distribution, and usage were included. The obtained datawere evaluated and compared with the standard according to WHO and Ministry of Health(2010).Drug supply management in Pharmacy Department of Surakarta according to thestandards as follows : The availability of the drug as needed (102.84%), procurement ofessential drug (86.87%), procurement of generic drug (100%), drug availability compared toDOEN (60.22%) and planning accuracy (88.94%). Drug availability level (100%), drugdistribution appropriateness (29,41%), the number of drug distributed inappropriately (9,84%),and the avarage time of drug emptiness (0%). The accuracy level of drugs item with Fornas I(60,77%). Our study concluded that drug management in Pharmacy Installation of SurakartaHealth Office still need improvement especially on distribution and utilization process accordingto WHO and Ministry of Health (2010) standards.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type II occurs in individual with insulin resistance or β pancreaticcells damage which is not able to respond glucose and produce insulin. Insulin is an importanthormon in glucose transport. Glucose transporter (GLUT-2) in β pancreatic cell membranes isresponsible for glucose transport that will stimulate insulin secretion. The purpose of thisresearch was to the effectson GLUT-2 protein expression in pancreatic β cells ofStreptozotocin-Nicotinamide-induced(STZ-NA) rats.This research performed using two groups of male Wistar rats. Group I was normalcontrol group, while Groups II were induced with STZ-NA. The dosage used in STZ induction is50 mg / kg WB rats and NA 110 mg / kg WB rats. The expression of GLUT-2 protein in βpancreatic cells in rats were observed by using immunohistochemistristy method.The result showed that the density of GLUT-2 protein in β pancreatic cells significantlydecreased in the group STZ-NA-induced rats comparing to normal control group

Abstract

Antioxidant is very important to keep human’s health because of its capability to reduce freeradical. Acetophenone and its derivates are reported as potential antioxidant. The aim of thisresearch was to find antioxidant activity of 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone compound synthesizedfrom resorcinol.The research was performed by synthesizing 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenon through Friedel-Crafts acylation from resorsinol. The structure of the compound was elucidated using gaschromatography, mass spectrometer, infrared spectrophotometer, and antioxidant test wasusing DPPH method.The results showed that product was succesfully synthesized. Yellowish-orange solid wasobtained from synthesis with 86,14% of yield and confirmed as 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone.The product showed weak antioxidant activity with 36,72 ppm of IC50

Abstract

Nutmeg were plants that used as material in food, medicine, perfume and cosmeticsindustries. Nutmeg essential oil contain 1,4-terpineol and safrol compounds that predected haveantibacterial activity.Sparation of 1,4-terpineol and safrol compound from nutmeg essential oil was carried outby fractional distillation method at 95 mmHg and 200- 225C֯. Analysis of nutmeg essential oil andsparation carried out by GC-MS and antibacterial activity tests with diffusion and dilution methods.The Analysis results showed that nutmeg seed essential oil contain 5 mayor compounds,α-pinena, sabinen, 2-β-pinen, terpineol and miristisin, the sparation result contain 40.05%1-4 and20.34% safrol. The diffusion test showed that 1.25% nutmeg seed essential oil have 12,11mminhibition zone that classified as strong inhibition, and the sparation result have 9,66mm inhibitorzone that classified as moderately inhibition. The dilution test result of nutmeg essential oil andthe separation result have activity for bactericidal has the same at consentration 1.25%.

Abstract

Antioxidant is very important to keep human’s health because it can scavenge free radical. Garcinia mangostanaL. which is used by people as traditional herbal medicine and it has traditional name mangosteen is known contain of flavonoid, tannin and saponin. The aim of the experiment was to find out the antioxidant activity of extracts and fractions of mangosteen folium against the DPPH radicals (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) to determine the IC50 and classes of compounds that play a role in antioxidant activity assay.Mangosteen leaves were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol. Extract was partitionedwith water and n-hexane, and then with ethyl acetate. The antioxidant activity of fraction was tested against DPPH radicals. The test was conducted in 5 series of concentrations by adding 4.0 ml test solutions with 1.0 mlDPPH 0.45 mM. The radicals scavenging activity was measured with spectrophotometer at 517 nm wavelength anddetermined the IC50 value. The experiment used Rutin as positive control.The identification of the class of compounds can be carried out using the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method whose results can be identified by spray reagents or compared with the standard standard. The result of the experiment showed that Mangosteen folium had antioxidant activity with IC50 of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction: 17.64 μg / ml, 45.36 μg / ml, 13.71 μg / ml, 12.10 μg / ml respectively. The water fraction has the strongest activity compare to the other with the IC50 is almost near often Rutin’s IC50 is 15.24 μg as the positive control. Abstract

Research was conducted to determine the antihyperlipidemic activity of the combination of Roselle Petal AndGarlic Chives Leaves ethanol extracton hyperlipidemic rats. To determine the potential effects of a combination of garlic chives leaves and rosella, the test animals were divided into seven treatment groups consisting of a hyperlipidemic control group, rosella group (500 mg / KgBW), garlic chives leaves group (110 mg / KgBW), the combination of Roselle Petal And Garlic Chives Leaves respectively 125 : 82.5 mg / KgBW, 250 : 55 mg / KgBW, and 375 : 27.5 mg / KgBW.Total cholesterol test results obtained percent reduction in total cholesterol rosella group (500 mg / KgBW) amounted to 11.49%, garlic chives leaves group (110 mg / KgBW) amounted to 13.70%, the combination of roselle petal and garlic chives leaves125 : 82.5 mg / KgBW, 250 : 55 mg / KgBW, and 375 : 27.5 mg / KgBW, respectively by 40.60%; 46.80% and 32.80%. The test results obtained percent decrease in triglyceride levels of triglyceride levels rosella group (500 mg / KgBW) amounted to 16.40%, garlic chives leaves group (110 mg / KgBW) amounted to 27.68%, combination of roselle petal and garlic chives leaves 125 :82.5 mg / KgBW, 250 : 55 mg / KgBW, and 375 : 27.5 mg / KgBW, respectively by 18.67%; 45.24% and 15.76%.The combination of roselle petal and garlic chives leaves250 : 55 mg / KgBW more effective to reduce total cholesterol and triglyceride blood of test animals than others.

Abstract

Nutmeg is a native Indonesian herb that has been used for food purposes such as spices and herbs, and the food industry. Miristisin is a typical compound that determines the quality of nutmeg oil and has several functional groups like allyl, phenyl, and ether. Kalkon derived compounds are secondary metabolites of flavonoids that have biological activities such as anticancer, cytotoxic, antimicrobial and antimalarial. The antibacterial properties are closely related to the α, β-unsaturated and the substituent of both aromatic rings, such as methylenedioxy groups, methoxy, Cl, Br, OH and so on. The aims of this study are to determine the antibacterial activity of kalkon derived from miristisin.Antibacterial activity test was performed on Escheresia Coli (E. Coli) and Staphylococcus Aureus (S. Aureus) bacteria. Antibacterial activity test was done by diffusion method by using disc from kalkon derivative compound in acetone with 1,25%; 2.5%, 5% and 10% of concentration. The positive control of Ciprofloxacin 5μg and negative control of acetone solvent. The inhibit zone of each concentration are determine the antibacterial activity the result of antibacterial test showed ihibition diameter zone at 1.25%; 2.5%, 5% and 10% concentration in E. Coli bacteria were 13mm, 19mm, 22 mm and 26 mm, respectively, whereas in S. aureus bacteria were 7 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm and 19 mm, respectively. The results of the test showed the greater of sample concentration, the greater antibacterial activity. Strong antibacteria activity was shown in E.Coli bacteria with concentration of 10%, while at the same concentration showed moderate activity in S.Aureus bacteria.
