Abstract

This study explores how social media contributes to second language acquisition (SLA), focusing on sixth-semester English education students at FBMB UNDIKMA. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research gathered data through surveys and interviews to understand how students interact with English-language content on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. The quantitative results showed a clear connection between how often students used social media and how much they felt their vocabulary and grammar had improved. Meanwhile, the qualitative findings painted a richer picture: students often picked up new vocabulary by accident, became more attuned to grammar use, and felt more motivated to engage with the language. These findings are consistent with well-established SLA theories, such as Krashen’s Input Hypothesis and Schmidt’s Noticing Hypothesis, which emphasize the value of exposure and awareness in language learning. Overall, the study suggests that social media, while informal, can effectively complement classroom learning—especially when teachers recognize and incorporate students’ existing digital habits into their teaching practices.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the effect of quizwhizzer application on students' potential learning loss, (2) the effect of quizwhizzer application on students' learning outcomes. This research is a quasi-experimental research involving one pretest group and one posttest group. The subjects of this study were inorganic chemistry practicum students at the Jambi University Chemical Education Study Program, who were in class R-002 in the 2022/2023 academic year. This study used a pretest and posttest scheme. Student learning outcomes were measured through questions, and potential learning loss using a questionnaire. To test whether there is an impact of the quizwhizzer application on causing a decrease in potential learning loss or an increase in student learning outcomes, data on potential learning loss and subject learning outcomes were tested with a paired samples t test. The results obtained from this study are (1) quizwhizzer application has an influence on the possibility of students experiencing a decrease in learning loss and (2) quizwhizzer application has an influence on improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the framing of the character of Governor and Deputy Governor candidates in West Nusa Tenggara  as presented by three local newspapers during the 2018 regional elections. Employing a qualitative content analysis method grounded in Entman’s framing theory, the research investigates how local media outlets, Suara NTB, Lombok Post, and Radar Lombok, constructed narratives of political figures’ character through four key elements: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. An analysis of 224 news articles reveals that each candidate pair was framed using different approaches: some were portrayed as experienced leaders, religious figures, intellectuals, populist candidates, successors to previous administrations, or even as champions of ethnic identity. These framings were significantly influenced by the social context and the strategic orientation of the media in building connections between the candidates and specific voter segments. This study affirms that the media do not merely function as conveyors of information but actively construct political realities through the selective creation and emphasis of character based narratives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of flowchart material in programming through the application of the PBL model in class X of SMKN 1 Cerme. The method used is Classroom Action Research with two cycles, involving 36 students of class X Visual Communication Design (DKV) 1. Data collection was carried out through cognitive tests, learning interest questionnaires, and learning motivation questionnaires. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the cognitive learning outcome aspect, with the average pretest score increasing from 67.5 to 74.9 and the posttest score from 80.9 to 89.9. The results of the paired t-test showed that the implementation of PBL had a positive impact on students' academic achievement. The increase was also seen in students' learning interest, indicated by an increase in the percentage of learning completion from 81% to 97%. In addition, students' learning motivation increased, with the highest score in cycle I of 4.53 in the aspect of facility availability, and increasing to 4.69 in cycle II in the aspect of belief in the relevance of flowchart learning to the world of technology. The conclusion of this study shows that the PBL model is effective in improving student learning outcomes, interests, and motivation. The implication is that teachers are advised to implement problem-based learning that is contextual and relevant to the needs of students and the world of work.

Abstract

This journal article analyses the abuse of power in digital surveillance, focusing on the case of the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) providing protection to online gambling sites. This research uses the literature study method to understand the mechanism of abuse of power and its supporting factors. The main findings show that weaknesses in internal controls and high financial incentives are the main drivers of this action. In addition, the development of digital technology creates new loopholes that are difficult to monitor using traditional methods. Analyses based on the theories of Utilitarianism, Virtue and Deontology Ethics reveal that these actions violate basic ethical principles, such as integrity, justice and public responsibility. Strategic recommendations include strengthening technology-based supervision, developing ethical competence of public officials, and adaptive regulation for the digital sector. This journal article is expected to serve as a reference in improving digital surveillance governance to prevent similar cases in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL). To support its development, an initial review was conducted in several ways, namely literature review, observation and field research. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. Data collection instruments include teacher needs analysis interviews, which include curriculum and learning resources, and student needs analysis questionnaires. The results of this study will be used to design learning media in the form of PBL-based Indonesian Language LKPD. Analysis of needs is carried out to identify teaching materials used by teachers, obstacles that arise during the learning process, and materials needed by students. After the researcher conducted a needs analysis, of the 32 students in grade XI of SMA Negeri 8 Lubuk Linggau, 87.50% had a study guidebook. The reality in the field, as many as 90.63% of students stated that the material on the elements of poetry contained in the guidebook was often concise and did not cover more complex aspects. As many as 74.07% of the available textbooks are still incomplete to be used as learning resources. As many as 87.50% of students need learning media in the hope of supporting learning activities and 93.75% of students need other learning media that can increase interest and learning outcomes. This shows that the development of teaching materials in the form of PBL-based LKPD is very much needed to support a more effective learning process and improve students' understanding of the elements of poetry.
