Abstract

The role of housewives is very important in the family and society in general. A housewife is responsible for running the household and supporting the family's welfare. The assistance aims to help housewives, especially those who work as farm labourers in Dieng Village, utilize the remaining potato harvest into processed products with a higher selling value. Mentoring was provided to 10 homemakers working as agricultural labourers for 14 days, 14-30 September 2023. The problems were a need for more knowledge and skills in processing potatoes into processed products and challenges in marketing these products. In response to this problem, we designed a series of assistance on potato processing and marketing strategies via social media. The approach taken in this service activity uses Participatory Action Research (PAR). The PAR approach includes research by identifying problems that occur. Action assists in managing potato waste and marketing via Instagram. Participatory activities supported by homemakers can realize results and increase productivity and the family economy. Potatoes have many uses and can be processed into various foods. This assistance has shown positive results, and housewives have been able to innovate in processing leftover potatoes and marketing them through social media.

Abstract

Balanced nutrition and a healthy canteen have an important role in maintaining public health, especially for children. Currently, people tend to live pragmatically, including the choice of instant food which can hurt health in the future. The prevalence of stunting and nutritional problems in children is still a serious problem in Indonesia. The knowledge of mothers and socio-economic factors have an important role in nutritional problems for children. Therefore, education about balanced nutrition and healthy canteens is important to increase public knowledge and behavior. The results of this community service activity show a significant increase in the understanding of balanced nutrition among student parents. Although improvements have been made, ongoing efforts are needed to ensure this understanding is maintained. This activity also motivates schools to set up healthy canteens as an alternative solution to a healthier diet for children.

Abstract

Raden Farmer Group is one of the farmer groups in Pabuwaran, Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. This group faced the problem of encountering the attack of Spodoptera frugiperda on corn. This pest caused a detrimental loss in corn cultivation. The common control technique used to control this pest is by applying chemical insecticides. The use of this chemical insecticide causes negative effects on both the environment and human health. The offered solution to overcome this problem is technology transfer using entomopathogenic fungi, which is environmentally safe. Technology transfer was conducted through mentoring, education, and demonstration plots (demplots). Evaluation was carried out by pre-test and post-test for each activity to find out how well the partners understood the presented materials. The improvement in skills was measured by assessing the entomopathogenic fungi-based bioinsecticide product that was successfully made in the training activity by the partners, the decrease in S. frugiperda attack intensity, and the increase in yields in demplot. The evaluation results showed: (a) improvement of the partner’s knowledge and skills regarding S. frugiperda and its control technique using entomopathogenic fungi; (b) the results on demplot showed that the use of entomopathogenic fungi could replace the application of chemical insecticides to control S. frugiperda. (c) Farm analysis showed that the use of entomopathogenic fungi in corn cultivation was efficient and profitable for farmers.

The subjects were chosen by the total sampling method. The inclusion criteria are the hotel employees were registered and willing to participate. The inclusion criteria are sick and on duty. The data collected are the results of a complete fecal laboratory and the level of knowledge about excellent and correct hand washing. Complete fecal data was collected by observation, while knowledge level data was collected by the self-administered questionnaire method. Furthermore, the data were analyzed in a univariate descriptive. Of the forty-four service participants, twenty-one were willing to collect fecal samples. The results of laboratory tests were obtained 100% of the hotel staff had complete fecal results within normal limits based on indicators of color, texture, fecal consistency, the appearance of bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, blood, lenders, pus, meat fiber, sugar and fat in feces and potential fecal, hydrogen (pH). The staff's knowledge level score about handwashing increased from 75.7 before counseling to 99.2 after counseling. Hotel employees are free from traveler's diarrheal disease and their level of knowledge increases after being given a campaign on proper and correct handwashing methods. So, it is advisable to routinely conduct fecal examinations once every one year and keep. Updating the knowledge and skills of staff in washing hands appropriately and correctly as an effort to prevent disease, especially travelers' diarrhea.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is vulnerable to natural disasters. Natural disasters cannot be predicted when they will occur. Natural disasters can impact anyone, children, parents, adults, pregnant women, giving birth, and breastfeeding women. The impact of natural disasters can cause anxiety at various ages, including postpartum mothers. If this happens, the mother may experience a decrease in breast milk production so that exclusive breastfeeding fails. This community service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of postpartum mothers and cadres regarding EFT in reducing maternal anxiety and increasing the smooth production of breast milk. Activities were carried out in Setiawargi village, Tasikmalaya city. The method used is training in small groups, using demonstration techniques by service providers and re-demonstration by postpartum mothers and cadres. The media used in the training are audio-visual broadcast materials and EFT videos. The activity results showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of postpartum mothers and cadres regarding EFT in reducing maternal anxiety and increasing the smoothness of breast milk production as preparedness in facing pre-disaster conditions.

Abstract

Bondoyudo Village, Sukodono District, Lumajang Regency is one of the villages with a variety of potential crops ranging from bananas, tomatoes, vegetables and other fruit crops, not separated from that Bondoyudo Village also has many "horse whip" plants which are basically wild plants that grow in fields, roadsides and hills, where there has also been research that the "horse whip" plant can be used to maintain a healthy body, almost all parts of the plant, can be used as medicine. Roots, flowers, stems or leaves. The horse whip plant can treat urinary tract infections, sore throat due to inflammation (pharyngitis), cough, rheumatism, and irregular menstruation. Especially for its flowers and stems, it can be used for the treatment of hepatitis A or inflammation of the liver. While the roots, can be used for the treatment of vaginal discharge (leukorrhea). However, the knowledge to process it is still unfamiliar to the community, especially the Bondoyudo Village PKK mothers who consider that this plant is only a wild plant that is only thrown away. So with the potential possessed by the village, there are many advantages in empowering the community, especially women by utilizing the "horse whip" plant. Based on these issues, women's empowerment is an important part of the process of improving the quality of Human Resources (HR) through training activities. The method that will be used in this Community Empowerment is by transferring technology, namely transferring knowledge as well as providing training on how to make health drinks made from horse whip plants to the Women's Farmers Group of Bondoyudo Village, Sukodono District, Lumajang Regency.

Abstract

Tarahan Village is one of the larger villages in Katibung District, South Lampung. Despite not being classified as an agricultural region, Tarahan Village exhibits remarkable productivity in cultivating vegetables and fruits. So far, organic waste from fruits and vegetables has been discarded and burned or used only for animal feed. The large volume of unprocessed fruit and vegetable waste causes various problems for village residents, both directly and indirectly. Besides that, the village's intensive horticultural farming activities have encouraged the increased use of inorganic fertilizers. This pollutes the environment and harms the soil, organisms that live in the soil, and humans who consume these horticultural products. The application of liquid organic fertilizer, specifically POC, is deemed necessary to effectively address the issue of fruit and vegetable waste management while ensuring the quality of organic horticultural products. A composter is a suitable technology employed for the production of liquid fertilizer. Since oxygen is crucial for microorganisms in decomposing organic matter, the POC produced through the aerobic composting process will mature more quickly and not produce offensive odors. The goal of implementing this technology is to spread the word that garbage can be turned into something valuable if managed properly, leading to a cleaner community and more economic opportunities. The rotary POC technology scheme consists of a plastic drum that is supported by an iron structure. The drum is furnished with a rotating lever designed for the purpose of stirring, thereby facilitating the uniform mixing of organic material upon the addition of the bioactivator. The agitation of the solution facilitates the efficient execution of the aeration process. The equipment scheme has been developed with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of composting with regard to both time management and the quality of the final outcomes. This technology has the potential to be an alternative solution for dealing with household waste, and the product in the form of POC has the potential to reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers.

Abstract

Technological developments are increasingly rapid, and everything can be obtained easily by using a device to process transactions, one of which is in the health sector. The increase in sales of medicines and medical equipment through e-commerce illegally and without supervision, as well as health articles from unclear sources, has led to an increase in drug use errors. To ensure the safety of medicines consumed by the public, the Indonesian Pharmacists Association introduced the DAGUSIBU movement to monitor the use and management of medicines by the community, especially in rural areas with limited health facilities. Through this movement, the team of lecturers and students from the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Khairun University, carried out service activities with the theme of socialization and education related to DAGUSIBU at Senior High School State 6 of Ternate. The activities were carried out through interactive lecture and discussion methods and were equipped with pre and post-tests. Based on the evaluation results, it can be concluded that there is an increase in knowledge of up to 80% after providing material which was previously only 30%.
