Abstract

Human beings as individuals and social beings are constantly faced with various problems or issues that they encounter in almost every side of life.  Precise decision making is required to overcome these problems so that all of the alternative solutions can be achieved optimally.  One’s position in an organization or institution has often been distracted by some polices and decision, and therefore, he or she has to consider solutions while keeping the organization runs well.   This is so because in every organization whether big and small, the changing of situation  such as personnel shift  has often raised conflict and misunderstanding.  These problems must be avoided or clarified.  Policy and decision making in substantive Islamic education is not too much different from the common theories of policy and decision-making. However, the policy and decision-making in Islamic education is more focused on the principles outlined in the Quran and the Hadith of the Prophet (Peace be upon him). Copyright © 2013 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v20i2.34

Abstract

The learning process cannot be separated from the use of teaching materials that play a role to achieve the competencies that must be achieved by the learners. The purpose of this research is to identify the developmental stages of Predict Observe Explain (POE)-based thematic teaching materials, quality, and effectiveness of teaching materials to improve the learners' learning outcomes. This is a research and development technique. The development of this product is done through the design model of ADDIE learning system, i.e. (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, (5) and evaluation. The results show that the POE-based thematic teaching materials has excellent quality on aspects of graphics and material with the score 4,52 and score 4,75 respectively from the aspects of readability, linguistic, and presentation according to the learners as the users of the product. Furthermore, the effectiveness test results show that the average class score that does not use POE-based thematic materials is 75,72, whereas that using POE thematic materials is 82,08. Therefore, the average score in the experimental class is higher than the control one. The Sig. shows 0,010 0,05, then H0 is rejected and H1 accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant value difference between the control and experimental class.

Abstract

Diversity in the context of curriculum planning (students’ social, cultural, political affiliation and economic, does not only have a direct influence to teachers’ ability in carrying out the curriculum, but also school capacity to provide learning experience for the learners, as well as students’ ability to achieve optimum results.  In practice, however, curriculum planners often neglect this diversity.  Teachers with their authorized capacity feel ‘safe’ to be non-active in which they are not supposed to accommodate those diversities.  Neither they are to be involved in determining the philosophical views, theories, vision, documentary development, socialization and curriculum implementation, nor to work on standardized regulations that have been nationally and universally stated.  This paper is aimed at sharing the information dealing with appropriate approach that has to be done to accommodate the diversity of social, cultural, political affiliation and economic with the standard national curriculum toward the accomplishment of new curriculum in Vocational Bina Nusantara Mandiri School Pariaman.  Data were collected through field survey, observation, and interview with teachers as well as school community who contributed to curriculum development.Copyright © 2014 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v21i1.75

Abstract

This paper is a report of a research and development project conducted in a speaking skill for the first-year students of State Institute for Islamic Studies Imam Bonjol Padang, academic year 2012/2013. Mingle as a technique in teaching speaking proposed by Pollard and Hess in 1997 was developed into a new model. Using ADDIE model as proposed by Dick and Carey in 1996, we collected the intended data through observation, questionnaire, and test. The result of the research showed that the implementation of model gave a significant difference in term of the students-learning outcome between the students who are taught through Mingle model and by traditional one or without Mingle model. The development of Mingle model included preparation, warming up, set the rule, act Mingle model, presentation, review and discussion. It is concluded that Mingle model is more effective to improve students on all components of speaking skill. Therefore, it is recommended that this model can be implemented at IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang. Copyright © 2015 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserved
