Abstract

Greenbean (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) contained phytoestrogen suspected has a potential effect as an preventive and alternative treatment of osteoporosis. This study is proposed to determine the effect of extracts of greenbean juice (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) on bone density by measuring calcium levels using Atomic Absorption Spectrofotometry (AAS) from femur and the number of osteoclasts collected from histological object which made from ovariectomized rat tibia. Ovariectomy method conducted to represent the osteoporosis condition on 36 female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 7 groups. Group 1 noticed as Sham was the rat control with surgery without ovariectomy and distilled water, group 2 as negative control is given distilled water and ovariectomized rat control, group 3 as positive control was given estradiol and ovariectomized rat control, group 4 as positive control was given vitamin E and ovariectomized rat control. Group 5, 6, and 7 were given 50 g/100 ml the greenbean juice with volume variation 5 ml/200 gBW, 2.5 ml/200 gBW, and 1.25 ml /200 gBW. Six groups had ovariectomized except sham group and rested for 20 days. Greenbean juice was given orally once daily started from day 21 until day 50. Calcium concentration and osteoclast measurement process taken on day 51. The results of bone calcium levels and osteoclast number showed that greenbean juice did not give significant differences among ovariectomized rats.

Abstract

Baligo is native of tropical regions in Indonesia known as a large gourd or pumpkin. Baligo among others contain carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, phytosterols, gums and mucilago, saponins, proteins and free amino acids, and flavonoids. Chemical constituents in seed baligo which is thought to have anti-diabetic activity of flavonoids and saponins. This study aims to determine the hypoglycemic effect of ethanolic extract of baligo seeds (Benincasa hispida (Thumb.) Cogn.) and find out what the larger dose of ethanolic extract of baligo seeds (Benincasa hispida (Thumb.) Cogn.) the greater hypoglycemic effect on white male rats strain wistar with alloxan induction. This study used a method in which alloxan induced rats were divided into five treatment groups that each group consisted of five rats. Group I as a negative control (CMC 0.5%), Group II as a positive control (glibenclamide) at a dose of 0.09 mg/200 g BB rats, and Group III, IV, V given doses of ethanol extract of seeds baligo 4.10 mg/200 g BB rast, 8.21 mg/200 g BB rats, 16.42 mg/200 g BB rats. All groups alloxan induced on day 0 (after fasting 16 hours) intraperitoneally. Examination of blood sugar levels performed on days 4 and 8 after administration of the test preparation. Statistical analysis showed that the greater the dose of ethanolic extract of baligo seeds (4.10 mg/200 g BB rats, 8.21 mg/200 g BBrats, 16.42 mg/200 g BB rats) was not the greater hypoglycemic effect on white male rats wistar strain with alloxan induced

Abstract

Moringa oleifera leaves potential to be developed as nutraceutical product because it contains amino acids, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, vitamin, and, minerals. Cereal is one of the nutraceutical products which can be developed using Moringa oleifera leaves as main ingredients. This research was conducted to develop Moringa oleifera leaves into dry instant cereals granules. The manufacturing process of this cereal was conducted using a wet granulation method. There are two formulas of Moringa oleifera leaves cereals which was developed in this research, formula 1 (without the arrowroot powder) and formula 2 (with arrowroot powder as a binder). Cereals of Moringa oleifera leaves in this study, then subjected to several evaluations such as physical characteristics of granules, viscosity, pH, proximate analysis based on SNI of cereal (SNI 01-4279-1996) (water content, coarse  fiber, levels of ash, protein, fat, and carbohydrates), and the levels of metals (Pb and Cu). The results showed that formula 1 and formula 2 fulfil the specification of physical characteristics of granules, viscosity, and pH. The results of proximate analysis (levels of ash, protein, carbohydrates, and metal content) revealed that both formula met the requirement of SNI. The results of fat content in cereals showed that formula 2 met the requirement of SNI, hence formula 2 did not meet the requirement. Based on these results, it can be inferred that Moringa oleifera leaves cereals which using arrowroot as a binder (formula 2) has fulfilled the nutrition requirements of SNI.

Abstract

Famotidine is used in the treatment of gastric disease and required rapid action of drugs in application. Orally Disintegrating Tablet (ODT) dosage has a fast disintegration time, caused therapeutic effects of famotidine could occur immediately. In this study, a characteristics of ODT comparison is made with ODT diluent with spray drying methods and comparative diluent in the market. ODT diluent consisted of Avicel PH 102, xylitol, mannitol, and crospovidone (2, 3.5, 5%). ODT diluent is used for the manufacture of ODT tablets with direct compresstion method. Evaluation of diluent consisted of water content, flowcity, and compressibility test, while evaluation of ODT tablets consisted of disintegration time, dissolution, hardness, and friability to see the effect of differences crospovidone concentration. Based on the result, F III with 5% crospovidone concentration had a faster disintegration time (44.45 seconds), smaller hardness (5.68 kg / cm2) and greater friability (0.46%) than F I and F II tablets. F III tablet has a longer disintegration time (44.45 seconds) than comparable ODT tablets (33 seconds).

Abstract

Several studies on elastase enzymes and hyaluronidase enzymes that have the potential to be anti-aging have been previously published. Referring to the various results of the study, a virtual screening of 30 natural substances from 10 anti-aging plants and the binding mode elucidation of the active compound as an inhibitor of enzyme causing aging were carried out. This study aims to determine the inhibiting mechanism of antiaging compounds in plants and to model their interactions. Based on the results of the ChemPLP score from the docking simulation there were 4 active compounds was obtained which inhibited the elastase enzyme, namely : 2 compounds from orange plants (Citrus aurantium subsp. Amara), 1 compound from lavender flower (Lavandula angustifolia L.) and 1 compound from galangal striped plants (Alpinia zerumbet). While on the hyaluronidase enzyme obtained 11 compounds that actively inhibit the hyaluronidase enzyme there were 2 compounds from the galangal striped plant (Alpinia zerumbet), 3 compounds from the areca nut plant (Areca catechu L.) , 1 compound from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis Kuntze), 1 compound from the rose flower (Rosa centifolia L.) , 2 compounds from the orange plant (Citrus aurantium subsp. Amara), 1 compound from lavender (Lavandula angustifolia L.) and 1 compound from the seaweed (Eucheuma spinosum).

Abstract

Top Brand Index data during 2012-2018 shows a stagnant and prone to declining growth percentage for certain immunomodulatory products. Toovercome this problem, producers tried to promote their products vigorously and to apply the right marketing strategy of the electronic word of mouth (e-WOM). Moreover, strengthening brand image on purchasing decision could be an alternative way to increase the market share of immunomodulatory producer companies. Hence, this study aimed (1) to determine the effect of e-WOM toward the decision to purchase immunomodulator products (research conducted in the DKI Jakarta area) as well as (2) the brand image to the same matter, then (3) to investigate further to what extent e-WOM as a marketing strategy influence the brand image of the marketed product. This study used a survey method and questionnaires has been distributed to 384 respondents in DKI Jakarta area. The obtained data were then analysed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)-PLS (Partial Least Square) by means of SmartPLS software. The results showed that (1) e-WOM affects significantly toward the decision to purchase immunomodulatory products and so does (2) the brand image. Then, (3) e-WOM proved to have a significant effect on the brand image of immunomodulatory products.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia are non communicable disease which those prevalence increased significantly.Those are risk factors of cardiovascular disease. A good knowledge is important to enhance the awareness of disease, so that the target of outome therapy can be achieved. The aim of this research are to describe the patient?s knowledge about the disease and to know the relationship between patient?s knowledge and outcomes therapy (HbA1c and total cholesterol). This research is an observational analytic study with cross setional design. The data taken prospectively from diabetes patients in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital around September to December 2016. Sample who met the inclusion criterias were patient who diagnosed with diabetes mellitus-dyslipidemia, aged over 18 years old, have a HbA1c and total cholesterol data and using minimal 2 drugs, antidiabetic and anticholesterol. The datas are the knowledge data which taken using validated questionnaire and the outcomes therapy which taken from patient?s medical data. Linear regression analysis is done to know the relationship between knowledge and outcome therapy. Around 37 patients who participated in this research were below 60 years old (64.9%), mostly female (59.5%), and have en education more than 9 years (86.5%). Besides that, only 62.2% patient who achieved the target of HbA1c, and only 56.8% patient who achieved the target of total cholesterol. Furthermore, based on linear regression analysis showed that there was no relationship between knowledge and outcome therapy either HbA1c or total cholesterol (sig 0.893 and 0.292).

Abstract

The use of balm by applying it to the affected part of the body can cause heat and stickiness in the fingers. Making balm sticks is one solution to overcome this problem. Balm sticks are influenced by the components used are oils, waxs and fats. Oils and fats have different fat acid and molecul weight will affect the physical properties of balm stick. Selection of the proper components are excepted to good melting point and hardness and in accordance with requirments. This study aimed at compare of VCO, olive oil and corn oil with variation between Adeps lanae and Vaselin albaon the physical properties of stick balm. All balm sticks prepared by the same method and evaluated included organoleptic test, homogenity, hardness and melting point. The result showed that difference in melting point and hardness, but all formula meet the requirment of physical preparation balm stick. Formula with VCO and Adeps lanae shows higest melting point and hardness. Statistical result of Kruskal Wallis shows sig <0,05 which means that there were difference of each formula. It could be concluded that VCO with Adeps lanae in combination Carnauba wax and Cera alba g a ve a high melting poin , hardenss and yield value.

Abstract

Diosmetin is a bioflavonoid that abundant in nature and it is flavone derived compound that have low antioxidant activity so the utilization of diosmetin as an antioxidant is very rare. To optimize the utilization of diosmetin as an antioxidant, diosmetin chemical structure was developed using QSAR methode. Quantitative Structure and Activity Relationship (QSAR) analysis of 195 diosmetin derived compound have been performed using electronic descriptors i.e heat formation, HOMO energy, LUMO energy, Log P value, mass, C2, C4, and C4?. The electronic structure as descriptor were analyzed using Hyperchem 8.0.6 software for Windows 7.0 using AM1 semi-empirical method. The descriptors were obtained by molecular modelling to obtain the most stabile structure after geometry optimation process. The best QSAR equation model was determined by multilinier regression approach. The best QSAR equation is ?log IC50 = 70.52781 + (-0.0298 Panas Pembentukan) + (3.627483 Energi HOMO) + (-0.48695 Energi LUMO) + (0.274203 Energi Hidrasi) + (-3.43515 Log P) + (-0.17476 Massa) + (26.95107 muatan atom C2) + (-3.67587 muatan atom C4) + (-3.85701 muatan atom C4?). The result of the IC50 prediction value showed that 3,6-diamin diosmetin is a diosmetin derived compound that have the best antioxidant activity with IC50 value 0.33 µg/mL.

Abstract

Sugary juice drinks are a practical drink culture of urban society. Various and popularbrands selling fruit juices, especially mango juice on the market. However, the large amount of fruitprocessing carried out by mango fruit juice entrepreneurs makes the prices offered on the marketquite high with a lack of information on their products. On the other hand, the number of degenerativediseases in Indonesia is also increasing. This can be overcome by consuming antioxidants in fruitjuice. In this study an antioxidant activity of brand A mango juice was compared with mango andprocessed mango juice to provide information that mango juice made by itself has higher antioxidantand economical so that it can be used to maintain health and can be used as source of antioxidants.The test method that will be used to determine antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The resultof selected DPPH wavelength is 517 nm. The average IC50 vitamin C, mango, processed mango juice,and brand A mango juice samples were 13.95 ?g / ml, 27475.18 ?g / ml, 67589.40 ?g / ml, 143819.93?g / ml. This shows that the sample of brand A mango juice has a smaller antioxidant activity valuecompared to the processed mango juice and the mangoes without any additions.
