Abstract

The use of acrylic removable dentures can cause problems if they are not paid attention to cleanliness and care. This can result in a buildup of food waste which predisposes to plaque formation, thereby increasing the prevalence of candida albicans microorganisms and causing candidiasis. The most commonly found candidiasis is erythematous candidiasis. Bay leaf because it contains essential oils, flavonoids, and tannins that can act as anti-bacterial in the mouth and are safe for health. The bay leaf ethanol extracts of 40% v/v (7mm), 80% v/v (9mm), and 100% v/v (11mm) were effective in inhibiting the growth of Candida ATCC 10231 in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Based on the antimicrobial activity of the bay leaf, the researchers wanted to conduct a study on the effectiveness of the bay leaf in inhibiting the occurrence of erythematous candidiasis in acrylic denture users. This type of research is experimental research and uses a pre-and post-test design with a control group. Data analysis using pair T-test. The results of the initial erythematous candidiasis examination showed that the frequency distribution of the type of erythematous candidiasis in respondents was 100% type I, simple inflammation was localized and the area of erythematous candidiasis was 100% type 1, pinpoints hyperemia. The application of bay leaf decoction in respondents caused 75% of respondents to experience a change in the type and extent of the lesion from type I to normal (no lesions). The paired samples t-test showed a significance of 0.008

Abstract

Covid-19 is a novel viral disease resulting in many casualties around the world, including in Indonesia. By the 19th of January 2022, the death rate is 3.36% higher than the world’s, i.e., 1.64%. Covid-19 -related death is caused by several factors; one of them is body mass index (BMI). A patient’s BMI affects the clinical condition as well as the severity of the case. Increasing BMI is believed to be a risk and mortality factor for Covid-19 patients. This research aimed at identifying the relationship between BMI and the severity as well as mortality of Covid-19 patients. From March 2020 to June 2021, as many as 345 in-patients at RSU Haji Surabaya were studied using the retrospective cohort research method. The data were analyzed using Chi-square with <0.05 significance value to see the relationship amongst its test variables. The results indicated that there was no significant relationship between body mass index and severity and mortality in Covid-19 patients. Therefore, it can be concluded that the severity and mortality of Covid-19 patients in Indonesia were not dependent only on the increase in BMI.

Abstract

Human immune system function can be enhanced with immunomodulators. One of the natural ingredients that have these properties is propolis. The use of propolis as an immunomodulator has not been widely used. This article aims to examine the potential of propolis as an immunomodulator. The method used is a literature review of research articles according to the theme and comes from the PubMed database, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. The article search strategy used the keywords flavonoid, immunomodulator, propolis, and the immune system. Propolis or bee glue is a resinous substance collected by honey bees from plant sources. The type of bee, the kind of plant habitat, the season, and geography will distinguish the chemical compounds of propolis. Propolis contains very high flavonoids as well as minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. Propolis from Indonesia has better flavonoid content than propolis from other countries. Flavonoids and Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) are the main ingredients that have the potential as immunomodulators in propolis. Propolis can be an immunomodulator because it can stimulate the phagocytosis process by macrophages, reduce the production of TNF- cytokines and inhibit complement. Propolis also increases the cytotoxicity of natural killer cells and stimulates antibody production.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional disorder that is often experienced by mothers in labor. The effects of anxiety in childbirth can trigger the release of excess catecholamine levels, which can result in decreased blood flow to the uterus and can lead to prolonged labor during the active phase of labor. One of the non-pharmacological efforts to overcome this problem is murottal therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of Murottal Surat Ar-Rahman therapy on the level of anxiety in mothers during the active phase of labor at Esti Husada Clinic. The study used a Quasy Experiment design. Quantitative design using the Non-Equivalent Control Group. The sampling technique is Accidental sampling. The number of samples was 22 mothers who gave birth during the first stage of the active phase consisting of 11 respondents in the control group and 11 respondents in the experimental group. Quantitative data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. Results are obtained p-value=0.005, which means there is an effect of Murottal Surat Ar-Rahman therapy on the level of anxiety in the mother during the active phase of labor. The level of maternal anxiety level during the first stage of labor in the control group during the pretest (54.5%) and posttest (63.6%), namely at a moderate level of anxiety, while the anxiety level of the mother during the first stage of the active phase in the intervention group before doing murottal therapy is experiencing moderate anxiety (54.5%), but after being given murottal therapy it changed to mild anxiety (72.7%).

Abstract

The high prevalence of stunting is caused by poor parenting. Data from the Health Profile of Bengkulu Province in 2019 showed that as many as 700 toddlers experienced stunting in Seluma Regency, and as many as 35 cases of toddlers experienced stunting in the working area of the Babatan Health Center. This study aims to obtain an overview of the parenting pattern of stunting in Air Petai Village, Sukaraja District, Seluma Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Sources of data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The informants of this study consisted of the main informants, namely 6 mothers with stunting toddlers, and 2 supporting informants, namely the Posyandu Cadre in Air Petai Village and nutrition practitioners (TPG) at the Babatan Health Center. The results showed that early initiation of breastfeeding was not applied to all toddlers. Some informants do not breastfeed until the child is 2 years old. The informant thought that if breast milk was given until the age of 2 years, it would be difficult to do weaning. Some informants often forget to wash their hands before feeding their children because they are busy taking care of the household. Health workers and Posyandu cadres hoped can carry out health promotions to mothers in Air Petai Village regarding good parenting, especially to pregnant and lactating women.

Abstract

The Edinburgh post-natal depression scale (EPDS) is an instrument that can be used worldwide for screening for symptoms of post-partum depression (PPD). PPD is a mood disorder/mood swings that occur after delivery which usually occurs within 4 weeks after delivery. In Indonesia, the number of cases of PPD is often undetected because it is considered a common symptom in newborns. This EPDS instrument is in the form of a questionnaire with 10 easy-to-use questions to assess the heart/mood that one has been feeling for the past week with not too long processing time. Each has a score scale of 0-3 with a maximum of 30 points. The EPDS has a sensitivity of 96% and a specificity of 82% with a cut-off value of 10. With the high sensitivity and specificity of the EPDS instrument and its ease of use, the EPDS can be used as a tool for comprehensive screening before making the diagnosis of PPD without specifying the cause of depression. It is hoped that this paper, can add references to the use of EPDS in Indonesia and its benefits so that it can detect early and screen the incidence of PPD in Indonesia so that it can be handled from the start without any impact on mothers and children as a result of PPD experienced.
