Abstract

The notion about social skill often was ignored in elementary school because many teachers thought that students’ learning achievement was more important than skill development. This study tried to describe conceptually about social skill in kaulinan huhuian. The research method was case study. Six teachers of Elementary School from two different schools in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia were selected as participant. Data was collected through semi structure interview and observation. Data analysis process by using grounding approach. The finding of this study showed that there were some social activities in kaulinan huhuian, namely deciding who become ucing, making formation like hui (sweet potatoes), sing kakawihan (song), and dialog between ucing and huiand. Social skill that can be developed was honesty, togetherness and the ability to interact with other people and the surrounding environment. This finding also can give solution to generate learning process whether model, strategy, technique which develop social skill in students.

Abstract

Metacognitive was the student’s skill in the process of acting (activity) and thinking (mental process). This skill could improve their learning process and memory. Student who had metacognitive skill will be able to control and to arrange his learning activity by himself. Active participation was the interaction both physically and psychologically to think, to interact, to try and to find new things in the learning process. The purpose of this research was to find the relationship between active participation and the metacognitive ability of students, especially in elementary school. This research was a correlation study. Population of this research was 5th grade students in SD Negeri 3 Klangenan academic year 2017/2018. Sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by observation and written test. The instruments for active participation was observation sheets and the instrument for metacognitive ability was a multiple choice test that consist of 20 questions. The data was analyzed using correlation technique using IBM SPSS Statistics 16.0 for windows. Based on the data nalaysis, it was obtained was 0.682. At a significant level 5% then was 0.413. Based on value then it showed that there was a positive and significant corelation between active participation and metacognitive ability of students 5th grade SD Negeri 3 Klangenan.

Abstract

In the 21st century, it was required critical thinking generation which was able to solve problems and actively participate in making decisions on local and global issues that were formed through the thinking process. The research objectives were describing the questions form that are often used teachers, and the teacher’s need for assessment instruments to measure Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) that were appropriated to the level of elementary school students’ development. This was a qualitative descriptive research with a case research method. The research samples were 34 elementary school teachers in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Informant selection used snow-ball sampling technique, while the research data are elementary teachers and documents. Data collection techniques were in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. Data validity used source and technical triangulations. Data analysis used interactive analysis techniques including of (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation, and (4) conclusion. The findings showed that (1) the description questions form are most frequently used teacher and multiple choice questions only measured C1 to C4; (2) 48% of teachers needed assessment instruments that can be used to measure HOTS.

Abstract

This research described the implementation of character education in Cipari Islamic Boarding School in Garut City that involved 1 Kyai, 1 Ustadz, and 2 santri. The main problem of this research was: How was the implementation of character education in the Cipari Islamic Boarding School in Garut City? In detail, the main problems was described in the form of research questions as follows: 1) Why was character education carried out in Cipari boarding schools? 2) How was the implementation of character education in the Cipari boarding school in Garut City? 3) What factors influence the implementation of character education in the Cipari boarding school in Garut City? This reseacrh method was a case study with a qualitative approach. The data was collected through observation, interviews, documentation and literature studies. Data was analyzed in several stages, namely: organizing data, describing it into units, synthesizing, arranging into patterns, choosing the important one to analysed and making the conclusions. The findings of this study indicated that there were five reasons underlying Cipari boarding schools carrying out character education to their students; Cipari boarding schools did not have a written program on character education but Cipari boarding schools implemented it through the application of rules and sanctions (nidzomul ma'had), habituation, reward, and a 24-hour education system, source of value, and evaluation; and there were two factors that influenced the implementation of character education in Cipari boarding schools, namely supporting and inhibiting factors.

Abstract

This research aims to know the differences of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Model with Card Match type and Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) Model to the mathematical communication ability of grade IV SDN Batu Ampar 02 Pagi, East Jakarta. The research method was comparative-quantitative with Quasi Experiment Method with posttest-only research design. The sample of the research was 64 students. The research instrument was a mathematical communication ability test in the essay form containing 7 items with score value 0-4. The instrument has been tested previously with validity and reliability test. Based on the results of the normality and homogeneity test of mathematical communication ability in IVA (Experiment Class I) and class IVB 's (Experiment Class II), the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Furthermore, data analysis techniques used hypothesis test. The results showed the average value of mathematical communication skills of the Experiment I class using the CTL with Card Match type was 19.3, it was higher than the Experiment II class using the RME Model of 18. Based on hypothesis test, it can be concluded that there were differences between CTL Type Card Match Model and RME Model on mathematical communication ability of students at SDN Batu Ampar 02 Pagi, East Jakarta.

Abstract

The Edunation Program at Emmanuel Foundation is a program that prepares the learning facilitators (instructors) who are sitting at the high school level to be able to teach elementary students in the surrounding environment. The purpose of this study was to explore: (1) the activities that needed to prepare learning facilitators at Emmanuel Foundation; (2) the implementation of the Edunation program in preparing this learning facilitator; (3) material provided in preparing learning facilitators; (4) benefits obtained by learning facilitators, Emmanuel Foundation, and students taught through this program; and (5) obstacles faced in implementing the Edu-nation program in preparing facilitators. The research method was descriptive qualitative research exploration methods. Research subject was 20 students. The research was conducted from March-June 2018. Data collection techniques were interviews and observation. The results of this research included: 1) training, direct practice, visited to the place of teaching facilitators, making teaching aids, varied games; 2) there were eight time sessions for one semester; 3) the material provided was pedagogy, basic content (read-write-calculate), class management, and self-recognition; 4) learning facilitators became more concerned with school-age students in their environment, Emmanuel Foundation achieved the expected vision of each student, and students become more enthusiastic in learning; 5) the constraints faced were the time involved with school activities from one of the participating schools.

Abstract

The study about investigation of The Effect of Enrichment in the Concept of Pascal-laws Based on STEM education on critical and creative thinking skills of 8th-grade Students are conducted as an effort to follow up the lack of development of Critical and Creative Thinking Skills on the students. The research was conducted using quasi-experiment design, the type of the one group pretest-posttest designs and involved eighth-graders aged between 14-15 years as research subjects for five meetings. The data was obtained through student worksheets and observations. Data processing to see N-Gain was used Microsoft Excel 2007 and the results showed that there was an increase in the percentage of critical thinking skill scores from 58% (pretest) to 89% (post-test) with high category increase (N-gain = 0.74). while student creativity also rose from 15% (pretest) to 81% (post-test) with moderate category increase (N-gain = 0.68). Students' creation tools on STEM's educational enrichment program are Hydraulic Glass Cleaners.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop collaborative learning device for mathematic course specified on two-dimentional figure on 4th grade students. The design of this study was Research and Development by using Prototype model in which the steps were 1) listening and obtaining the need for the device 2) organizing and making prototype 3) testing. The subject of this study was a collaborative learning device. Instrument used to measure the validity of the learning device was rating scale in the form of assessment tools from the expert. The data were obtained by using methods, namely questionnaire by using quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Testing resulted the numeric data and the average score was converted in PAP table 5 scale. The result showed that 1) collaborative learning device in mathematic course specified on two-dimentional figure involved 1 syllabus, 6 lesson plans, 6 student worksheet, 2) this product was validated by expert of mathematic, expert in education and 2 teachers from different school with the average score 4.42 for syllabus, 4.51 for lesson plan and 4.62 for student worksheet and the category was “very good”.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of teacher guides with contextual problem approaches in thematic learning. This research is a follow-up study of teacher guide products developed, used in thematic learning on the themes of various jobs, sub-themes of types of work with a contextual problem approach which through the process of observing, asking, trying, reasoning, and communicating. The five processes are deemed necessary, because according to the philosophy of thematic learning namely meaningfulness in the learning process. Students are able to construct their own meanings, from contextual learning prepared by the teacher. In this study, the true quantitative experimental method was used in the type of posttest-only control group design. Where the main characteristic of this study is the placement of subjects in groups randomly, provided the subject characteristics are considered the same. The indicators of success used are, effective if the classical completeness of the experimental class exceeds 80%. The conclusion of this study is the teacher's guide to the contextual problem approach in effective thematic learning, with 84% classical completeness and more than 65% student activity.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an integrated thematic learning encyclopedia media STEM that can help increase understanding of the material and improve critical and creative thinking skills in students. This type of research is Research and Development (RnD) using ADDIE research design. The experimental subjects used in this study were grade 3 students of Muhammadiyah Ambarbinangun Elementary School, totaling 49 children. Data collection techniques are interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Data collection instruments are encyclopedia assessment sheets, test results, and interviews. Data analysis techniques are qualitative and quantitative data. The results showed that the average of expert validation test assessments were 86.35 with "very good" categories, the average of teacher ratings was 96.66 with "very good" categories, and the average rating of students was 91 , 59 with the category "very good". From these results, the encyclopedia media is declared "feasible" to be used in learning. In addition, the study showed that the effective encyclopedia was used in learning based on calculations using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results obtained were Tcount 12.064 and Ttable 2.056 with a significance of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there were significant differences between the results of theassessments pretest and posttest.
