Abstract

Food-wasting behavior can occur when someone does not finish the food they have taken. It can also be seen in purchasing or taking more food than they can consume. Food-impulsive behavior and personal norms are assumed to predict food-wasting behavior, and this study aims to prove this assumption. Personal norms reflect an individual's personal value system in specific situations that can influence specific behaviors, while food impulsive behavior refers to consumers' tendency to buy impulsively, without reflection, immediately, and impulsively. This research was conducted in Makassar City on 150 adolescents aged 12 to 19 years old, and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. This study provides three findings. First, food-impulsive behavior and personal norms together can predict food wasting by 32.5% (p=0.000; p<0.05). Second, food-impulsive behavior positively predicts food-wasting behavior by 11% (p=0.000; p<0.05), indicating that the higher someone's food-impulsive behavior, the higher their food-wasting behavior. Third, personal norms can negatively predict food-wasting behavior by 21.5% (p=0.000; p<0.05), indicating that the higher someone's personal norms, the lower their food-wasting behavior.

Abstract

This study examines language issues that arise in social media. Users of TikTok frequently contribute images, videos, and memes. Users of TikTok also left comments on the post in a variety of languages. Slang is used, and the language style has been studied. The purpose of this study was to understand how slang is put together, what it means, and what its function is. The justification for utilizing slang was revealed in user comments on TikTok. The researcher is interested in talking about the phenomena of African American English slang terms seen in comments on TikTok social media with regard to this issue. Additionally, this study uses a qualitative, descriptive approach. The information was gathered from TikTok users' comment sections over a specific time period. The theory of the functions of slang is from Zhou and Fan (2013), and the framework for the types of slang is based on the theory of Allan & Burridge (2006). The analysis's findings indicate that there are four categories of slang utilized by TikTok users: Clipping, Acronyms, Fresh and Creative, and Flippant. Slang among TikTok users serves purposes related to pursuing self-identity and emotive feelings. The sociolinguistic approach is utilized to better comprehend the slang expressions found in TikTok comments and to address the two issues that have resulted from them.

Abstract

Coastal Colonial Towns (CCTs) of Ghana contain Colonial Architectural Heritage (CAH). The CAH are valuable assets which possess economic and utility values which can be harnessed for development. Over the years, the morphologies of the CCTs have been exposed to destructive forces, putting the CAH at risk. There is the need to rescue the CAH. This study focused on establishing a framework to guide the identification, conservation and valorisation of the CAH, not only to prevent their destruction but most importantly make them socio-economically viable to national developments. The study relied mostly on scholarly literature to first identify the gaps associated with pertinent theories; none of the morphological approaches considers both the micro and macro–Urban Tissues (UT) and both the human and environmental factors at the same time; and the theories have not been explored well in Ghana to enable the identification and conservation of heritage items. The proposed framework which is to fill the gap, is a synthesis of the morphological approaches (Historico-geographic, Process-typological and Space syntax), the Power theory and the Historic Urban Landscape approach. The study makes significant contribution by allowing both the macro and micro UTs as well as the environmental and human factors to be considered for the identification, conservation and valorization of CAH. Moreso, the study produced a framework which can be adapted to conserve and valorise the CAH of the CCTs of Ghana.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyse and examine how global value of deliberative governance of labour policies in Banyumas local government operates with a cultural heritage. By descriptive methods through in-depth interviews, policy studies, and observations of 100 relevant key-informants, it can be concluded that labour policy deliberations are not yet fully deliberative. Otherwise, labour policy deliberations held by non-governmental organizations are actually more deliberative. Among other things, this is due to the more free, open, democratic and autonomous interaction patterns and communication flows held by non-governmental organizations. The next factor is due to the fact that the selection of policy deliberation actors has not been carried out through random selection, the discussion agenda has not discussed labour protection issues comprehensively, the supervision of post-policy deliberation proposals at the district level is very difficult to do, and the participation employers is still at the level of pseudo-participation. Based on these conditions, efforts need to be made starting from the expansion of new public spaces, increasing the deliberation budget, selection of actors based on competence and authority, dissemination, more massive information dissemination of the labour protection policy agenda, and the intensity of labour and employer meetings so that industrial relations in the labour protection agenda can run dynamically and be able to realize an increase in the number of protected workers. With policy deliberation, it is expected that a new consensus will be enhanced in order to prevent conflicts of labour more early. Abstract

This article purposed to: (1) identify and analyze types of synonyms based on Palmer's theory (Alexander, 2018) and (2) examine the meaning relationships contained in each type of synonym by referring to Leech's theory (Feist, 2022). This research employs a qualitative descriptive method through several stages, including watching films and reading dialogue scripts from the Harry Potter series, grouping data according to types of synonyms, analyzing data based on identified problems, and drawing conclusions from the results of the analysis. The findings reveal five types of synonyms with the following distribution: 37.2% overlapping synonyms, 25.7% stylistic synonyms, 25.7% synonyms with emotive or evaluative meaning, 5.7% collocation synonyms, and 5.7% dialect synonyms. Furthermore, based on meaning analysis, the data indicates 40% conceptual meaning, 31.6% affective meaning, 8.5% reflective meaning, 5.7% social meaning, 5.7% collocative meaning, 5.7% thematic meaning, and 2.8% connotative meaning. This study also highlights the cultural context in which these synonymous variations emerge, emphasizing how language choices in the Harry Potter series reflect British cultural nuances, social hierarchy, and magical world-building. The dialogue in the films not only serves a narrative function but also conveys deeper cultural meanings through dialectal variations, stylistic shifts, and emotive expressions, further enriching the linguistic and thematic dimensions of the story.

Abstract

This article purposed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of figurative language found in the lyrics of Simple Plan's album "No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls," as well as to explore its semiotic implications. The background of this research is rooted in the recognition that popular music lyrics are not only artistic expressions but also complex linguistic constructions that reflect broader cultural and emotional narratives. Despite the widespread influence of popular music, systematic studies combining figurative language analysis with semiotic interpretation remain limited, particularly in contemporary pop-punk genres. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on an in-depth examination of five selected songs from the album. The analysis is grounded in Leech's (1981) theory of figurative language, which categorizes various forms of figurative expressions, and Barthes' (1977) theory of semiotics, which delves into the relationship between signs and meanings. The findings of this study reveal that the lyrics utilize five distinct types of figurative language: metaphor, personification, hyperbole, simile, and alliteration. Each of these elements plays a crucial role in enhancing the lyrical content, contributing to the overall impact of the songs. This research underscores the idea that figurative language serves not only as a tool for variation in expression but also as a powerful means to convey complex emotions and to establish a specific atmosphere within the music. Furthermore, the semiotic analysis indicates that the lyrics predominantly convey connotative meanings, which add layers of significance for the reader or listener. These connotations enrich the understanding of the songs, allowing for a deeper emotional connection and interpretation. By examining the interplay between figurative language and semiotics, this study contributes scientifically to the fields of linguistics, literary studies, and cultural semiotics. It expands understanding of how linguistic creativity in music can shape emotional resonance and cultural meaning, offering new perspectives on the analysis of language in popular media. In addition, the interplay between figurative language and semiotics contributes to a greater appreciation of how Simple Plan's lyrics resonate with audiences, highlighting the intricate ways in which language can evoke feelings and create meaning in the context of popular music. Abstract

Signage plays an important role in cultural heritage destinations, functioning not only as wayfinding tools but also as communicative devices that reflects the cultural identity of a place. In many regions, signage has evolved into a medium for cultural storytelling through the use of local language, symbols, and traditional elements. However, in several heritage sites in Indonesia, the cultural integration of signage remains underdeveloped. This study investigates how signage contributes to the communication of cultural identity in Kampung Budaya Sindang Barang, one of the oldest traditional villages in Bogor. Despite its active role in preserving Sundanese tradition through rituals, architecture, and educational programs, the village’s existing signage remains limited in both quantity and cultural representation. This research employs qualitative case study approach, using observation, interviews, and documentation to explore signage functions within the village. Analysis was conducted using a SWOT matrix to identify internal and external factors, while the pyramid signage model was applied to examine signage through its information content, graphic, and hardware system. The findings reveal that the current signage primarily fulfills functional purposes such as navigation and regulation, without incorporating Sundanese language, symbols or motifs. This lack of cultural representation reduces signage effectiveness in communicating identity and engaging visitors. The result demonstrates a significant gap between the cultural richness of the site and its ability to express identity through design. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how signage can serve as a medium for cultural expression and calls attention to the need for contextually relevant signage in heritage tourism destination.
