<![CDATA[The reading comprehension skills of EFL students have been a concern of scholars by researchers, but some researchers found that EFL students face some problems in understanding English texts due to lack of techniques while teaching. Therefore, this study investigates how students engage in reading comprehension using the Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition Technique. This study uses a case study as a qualitative research design, involving EFL tenth graders from an Islamic Senior High School in Karawang as participants. Researchers collect data through observation and interviews. The findings show that EFL students’ engagement in reading comprehension using the CIRC technique resulted in three engagements, namely behavioral engagement, emotional engagement, and cognitive engagement. Behavioral engagement which means students can contribute to class discussion and follow all instructions from the teacher, emotional engagement which means students can express their feelings during reading comprehension activities, and cognitive engagement which means students can try to complete tasks in different ways to achieve the same result. This research suggests that educators should expand or develop their teaching techniques to produce better learning activities.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this research is to categorize what types of overlap are constructed in Golden Globe Award Interview 2020 with Nicholas Braun by The Hollywood Reporter. In an interview, it is one of turn taking violations which still becomes a rife phenomenon where many speakers aren’t aware yet about it. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative by documentation technique. The main theory of overlap types is based on Schegloff (2000) and French & Local (1983). There are 13 data found which contain 11 non-competitive: 1 terminal overlap, 5 continuers, 4 conditional access to the turn, 1 choral and 2 competitive: 2 high pitch and increased loudness. So, it can be concluded that the most dominant of overlap type is continuers that categorized as unproblematic for the speakers and conversation structure. Because the next speakers used it to respect the current speakers. Therefore, this result is expected as one of overlap examples which can be applied.]]>

<![CDATA[Current technological developments need to be followed by adaptation to the world of education. However, the problem in the world of education today is that there is still unpreparedness and gaps in the use of technology in the educational sphere. The purpose of this research is as an effort to transform the development of learning media that makes more use of information technology and keeps up with the times. The Canva application can support the learning process because of the many designs provided so that learning materials can be designed more attractively. Then, the Quizlet application provides various features for creating interactive quizzes. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with interview data collection techniques with informants. Based on the results of the research, Canva and Quizlet media for learning fables at SMP Muhammadiyah Purworejo are considered to be very effective. The use of these applications does not make students bored and more interested in learning, so it is hoped that the Canva and Quizlet applications can be used as references or alternatives for teachers in improving student learning outcomes, especially in junior high school students' fable text material]]>

<![CDATA[This study will examine the genre analysis of the contents of Hamid's letter to Zainab contained in the novel "Di bawah Lindungan Ka’bah" by Buya Hamka. The subject of this research is Hamid's letters. The object of research is genre. The data obtained is the documentation of their letters contained in the novel. The method used to analyze the data is a qualitative descriptive method. Data analysis uses genre theory because it can conclude the analysis from the types of discourse, as well as describe its substance. The results showed that Hamid's letter to Zainab contained 6 purpose sentences, 1 rhetorical structure. Meanwhile, for the realization of the use of linguistic forms using the LFS (Systemic Functional Linguistics) method, there are data; Mental processes = 9 processes, Material processes = 11 processes, behavioral processes = 2 processes, relational processes = 5 processes. Then after conducting further analysis of this research, we can conclude that Hamid's letter to Zainab belongs to the type of descriptive discourse]]>

<![CDATA[This research is qualitative research with a discourse analysis approach. The purpose of this study is to describe the elements of sentences contained in news headlines in newspapers. The research data used in the form of written text containing the omission of sentence elements. The source of the research data was obtained through the September 2022 edition of the SOLOPOS newspaper. The data was collected by means of a documentation study using reading and note-taking techniques. This research uses analysis technique of agih and insertion. The results showed that the omission of sentence elements contained in the news title of the September 2022 edition of the SOLOPOS newspaper occurred in two elements, namely the omission of the subject and the verb. The process of removing the title on the news is carried out by writers and editors to adjust the layout of small newspapers and make the news more interesting because it arouses the curiosity of readers. The results of the analysis of 10 news headlines found that there were 1 complete sentence that were not omitted and 9 sentences that were omitted by nouns with subject functions, verbs with predicate functions, and affixes to verbs]]>

<![CDATA[The reseach has describing the structures, storytelling environment and social function of Tale Haji Kerinci text. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using a content analysis method to insvestigate the content and information contained in Tale Haji text. while the data collection technique is done by observation technique through recording and note taking, as well as interview technique that is carried out on informants such as traditional leaders and community leaders. The research finding revealed that the structures of Tale Haji Kerinci are in the form poem as rows and lines rhyme, sampiran and the content and word choice, environmental of Tale Haji is include sad and happines. <![CDATA[Literary works are the result of imitating or depicting the reality of phenomena that occur in human real life because literary works themselves are a reflection of society. Therefore, literature is an expression of human life that cannot be separated from the problems that exist in society. One of the literary works that express the reality of social life is a novel, one of which is a novel entitled Ayat-Ayat Cinta. This study aims to examine the description of social problems in the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy and find out the driving factors of these social problems. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach to the sociology of literature. Data was collected using the technique of observing and noting using the observation method. The findings obtained in this study indicate that there are descriptions of social problems in the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy, in the form of discrimination, domestic violence, family disorganization, school bullying, prostitution, polygamy in the western paradigm, and poverty. The various social problems found indicate that factors are driving these social problems in the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy, such as psychological factors and cultural factors]]>

<![CDATA[This article aims to describe the subordination of women in the Novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive method and uses a feminist literary approach. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs that describe the subordination of women in the Novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo. The results of the study show that subordination to women appears in stories as a result of customary and cultural constraints. Subordination that occurs in the form of women's status is degraded and does not consider women's existence important. Disclosure of women's subordination in the Novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam will provide information and knowledge for readers to carry out adat in the right way, so that no more women become victims]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to find meaning distortions, shifts in meaning, matrices, models, variants, and hypograms of Umar Kayam's short story Seribu Fireflies in Manhattan. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data collection method used is the hermeneutic method which adheres to Riffaterre's semiotic theory. From the research that has been done, it is found that there are four possible stories and two types of indirect expressions in this short story in the form of meaning distortion which includes metaphor and metonymy, and replacement of meaning which includes contradiction, ambiguity, and nonsense. The matrix of this short story is a two-way conversation between Jane and Marno who leads the whole story with a romantic but firm model by Umar Kayaman. The conclusion of the research that can be drawn is that short stories can be categorized as contemporary literary works because of the complexity of the language style, the indirect expression in this short story is in the form of deviation and substitution of meaning, and the matrix of this short story is a two-way conversation between Jane and Marno who leads the whole story with a model that romantic but firm]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to reveal the effect of the Think Talk Write Model on the Ability to Rewrite Biographical Texts of Class X Students of SMA Negeri 1 Koto XI Tarusan. This type of research is pre-experimental, with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample class studied was one class without a comparison class which was taken through a purposive sampling technique. The sample class in this study was class X MIPA 4. The research instrument used was to rewrite pretest and posttest biographical texts. The results showed that the ability to rewrite biographical texts for class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Koto XI Tarusan increased before and after using the Think Talk Write model. The average value of the posttest results for the sample class is greater than the average pretest results, namely 71.76 for the posttest and 27.25 for the pretest. Using the results obtained from the posttests on the Ability to Rewrite Biographical Texts of Class X Students at SMA Negeri 1 Koto XI Tarusan, it was concluded that the students were capable of rewriting biographical texts after using the Think Talk Write Model.]]>
