Abstract

Background: Booster immunization is an important effort to maintain children’s immunity against infectious diseases. However, booster coverage in several regions remains below the national target. One influencing factor is the mother’s knowledge regarding the importance of booster immunization. Methods: This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and booster immunization practices among mothers of toddlers. A cross-sectional quantitative design was used. The population included mothers with children aged 1–5 years visiting a community health center in Kuantan Singingi Regency. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique with 45 respondents. Data were collected using a structured and validated questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05.Results: The findings revealed that most respondents had good knowledge (60%) and high booster immunization implementation (66.7%). Statistical tests indicated no significant relationship between maternal knowledge and booster immunization practice (p = 0.254).Conclusion: The study concludes that maternal knowledge does not directly influence the implementation of booster immunization. Continuous education and motivation by healthcare workers are essential to improve mothers’ awareness and compliance with completing children’s immunizations.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a significant health issue in Indonesia, affecting 21.50% of the population. In the province of Bali, the stunting rate is 14.4%. The highest incidence of stunting in Buleleng is found in Banjar District, at 9.15%, primarily because Banjar District has the lowest rate of exclusive breastfeeding at just 14.3%. Currently, numerous efforts are being made to prevent stunting, one of which is promoting exclusive breastfeeding; however, many mothers still do not provide exclusive breastfeeding. The cause is attributed to poor maternal mental health. The purpose of this study is to enhance the success of mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding to their babies through positive affirmation audio innovations based on Tri Kaya Parisudha. The method employed is a mixed-method approach, utilizing qualitative assessments for media development and quantitative distribution of questionnaires across 17 villages in Banjar District, involving a total of 34 respondents with infants. Changes in breastfeeding practices were observed before and after the intervention (one group pre-posttest). Research results: The findings from the assessments conducted by three experts—namely, a mental health expert, a lactation expert, and a Hindu cultural expert—indicate several areas that require improvement, including: the absence of technical education on breastfeeding positions, the signs of adequate breastfeeding, and a lack of explicit affirmation of breastfeeding as a gift from Ida Sang Hyang Widhi. The results of the Wilcoxon test revealed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, leading to the conclusion that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This indicates a significant influence on mental health, knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and milk production before and after the implementation of positive affirmations for exclusive breastfeeding based on Tri Kaya Parisudha

Abstract

Introduction: To build and strengthen immunity, immunization is a crucial step. It allows a person to avoid disease or only experience its symptoms. However, parental knowledge and compliance with basic immunization remain problematic in some places. A national report stated that the achievement of complete basic immunization in 2020 was around 83.3%, still below the national strategic target. Ignorance about the benefits, schedule, and side effects of vaccines is often a major factor causing low coverage. Education through leaflets, which is an easily accessible method and has been proven effective in several controlled studies, can improve knowledge and behavior related to vaccination, potentially encouraging parents to receive basic vaccinations. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine significant differences between maternal knowledge and compliance with basic immunization before and after being provided with health education using leaflets. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest model without a control group, in the working area of the Bambu Apus Community Health Center. A total of 44 mothers with babies aged 0–9 months and who met the inclusion criteria participated in the study and underwent the entire series of leaflet media education. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and a compliance questionnaire. Results: The results of the Wilcoxon test statistical analysis for maternal knowledge obtained a p-value score <0.001, while the results of maternal compliance in administering immunizations with a statistical test using McNemar showed a p-value score of 0.016, which means there is a significant difference between maternal knowledge and compliance before and after being given health education using leaflets regarding basic immunizations. Recommendation: It is hoped that immunization programs at the community level can integrate the use of leaflets as supporting media to increase understanding and encourage maternal compliance in carrying out basic immunizations in children

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia and is largely caused by iron deficiency, low adherence to iron supplementation, and the habitual consumption of beverages that inhibit iron absorption. This study aimed to analyze the effect of beetroot herbal tea as a complementary therapy on hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, and erythrocyte count in anemic adolescent girls. This quantitative study employed a true experimental design with a randomized pre-test and post-test control group. The sample consisted of 40 adolescent girls aged 16–19 years with mild to moderate anemia, who were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=20) receiving 2 g/day of beetroot herbal tea brewed in 250 mL of warm water and 60 mg of iron supplementation once daily for 14 days, and a control group (n=20) receiving only 60 mg of iron supplementation once daily for 14 days. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte levels were measured before and after the intervention using a hematology analyzer. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests following the Shapiro–Wilk normality test. The results showed that the combination of beetroot herbal tea and iron supplementation significantly increased hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, and erythrocyte counts compared to the control group (p<0.05) with large effect sizes across all hematological parameters. It can be concluded that beetroot herbal tea is an effective, safe, and promising complementary therapy for improving hematological status in anemic adolescent girls. Beetroot herbal tea is recommended to be developed as a complementary intervention in anemia prevention and control programs for adolescent girls, particularly as an adjunct to iron supplementation in school-based settings. Further studies with longer intervention periods and comprehensive iron status biomarkers are recommended to strengthen the evidence and support its implementation in public health practice

Abstract

Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect reported by hormonal contraceptive users. Sexual dissatisfaction resulting from dysfunction in either partner can diminish quality of life and marital harmony. This study aims to analyze the correlation between sexual function and sexual satisfaction among women using long-term hormonal contraception (more than 3 years). This cross-sectional study was conducted from August to November 2024 at TPMB Mudjiasri, Wagir District, Malang Regency. A total of 30 respondents were selected using a total sampling technique based on specific inclusion criteria. Sexual function was evaluated using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire, while sexual satisfaction was assessed via the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (SSS-W). Data were statistically analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that among the 28 respondents experiencing sexual dysfunction, 25 (83.3%) reported sexual dissatisfaction. Conversely, all respondents with normal sexual function (6.7%) reported being satisfied. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), proving a significant correlation between sexual function and sexual satisfaction. Decreased estrogen levels due to long-term hormonal use are known to inhibit lubrication and libido, thereby reducing coital frequency. This study recommends that healthcare providers enhance education and intensive counseling regarding the sexual impacts of hormonal contraceptives. Additionally, long-term users are advised to seek regular consultations or consider non-hormonal contraceptive alternatives to maintain reproductive health and marital harmony.

Abstract

Inadequate breast milk production is one of the barriers to successful exclusive breastfeeding among postpartum mothers. Factors such as improper breastfeeding techniques, stress, and a lack of knowledge and social support can exacerbate this condition. Several natural interventions, such as consuming red beans and red ginger, are believed to increase breast milk production. Red beans contain protein and phytoestrogens, while red ginger contains gingerol, which acts as a natural galactagogue. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a two-group post-test approach. The intervention group was given a combination of red bean and red ginger extracts for 40 days, while the control group received a placebo. Data were collected through questionnaires and observations and analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The objective was to determine the effect of administering a combination of red bean and red ginger extracts on increasing breast milk production in postpartum mothers in the service area of the Jambesari Bondowoso Community Health Center. The study was conducted from April to June 2025. Results: There was an increase in average breast milk production in the intervention group from 1.60 to 2.60. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) within the intervention group. The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups. The combination of red bean and red ginger extracts is effective in increasing breast milk production in postpartum mothers. This intervention is recommended as a nonpharmacological alternative to increase breast milk production.

Abstract

Breast milk is a primary source of nutrition that plays a crucial role in supporting optimal infant growth and development. Smooth breast milk production in postpartum mothers is influenced by various physiological and psychological factors; therefore, effective interventions are needed to enhance the lactation process. One non-pharmacological approach involves the use of back rolling massage and Marmet massage, which work by stimulating the hormones prolactin and oxytocin. This study aimed to analyze the effect of back rolling massage and Marmet massage on increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers at the Independent Midwifery Practice of Rosita, S.Tr.Keb. A quantitative method was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. The study was conducted from May to July 2024, with a population consisting of all mothers who gave birth at the practice. The sample comprised 16 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Data collection utilized observation sheets, while analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Wilcoxon test. The results indicated that prior to the intervention, all respondents experienced issues with smooth breast milk production. Following the intervention, an increase in breast milk production was observed in 93.8% of respondents in the back rolling massage group and 87.5% in the Marmet massage group. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant effect of back rolling massage and Marmet massage on increasing breast milk production in postpartum mothers. The study concludes that back rolling massage and Marmet massage are effective non-pharmacological interventions for enhancing breast milk production in postpartum mothers.
