Abstract

Prolonged labor remains a significant concern in maternal healthcare services as it may increase the risk of complications during childbirth for both mothers and newborns. This study was conducted to describe the incidence of prolonged labor among women giving birth at the Bataraguru Public Health Center, Baubau City, during the period of 2021–2025. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 118 delivering mothers selected using a total sampling technique, allowing all eligible members of the population to be included as respondents. Data were obtained from medical records and delivery registers available at the health facility. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis and presented in the form of frequency distributions and percentages. The results showed that 76 respondents (64.4%) experienced normal labor, while 42 respondents (35.6%) experienced prolonged labor. The characteristics of mothers who experienced prolonged labor were predominantly found among those in high-risk age groups, namely younger than 20 years and older than 35 years, among primiparous and grand multiparous mothers, and among mothers who delivered infants with birth weights outside the normal range. It can be concluded that prolonged labor is still encountered among a proportion of delivering mothers at the Bataraguru Public Health Center, Baubau City. Therefore, improving the quality of antenatal care through early identification of risk factors and continuous monitoring of labor progress is essential to minimize maternal and neonatal complications.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting, which is defined as height below the age standard as a result of persistent malnutrition, is a sign of long-term growth failure in children. West Java had the greatest percentage of stunting, according to the 2023 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI). The prevalence rose from 14% in 2022 to 17% in 2023 in Karawang Regency. Given the significance of the first 1000 HPK, parental understanding of caregiving practices is essential to the effectiveness of interventions. Objective: To prevent stunting in the working area of Puskesmas Rengasdengklok, Karawang, this research aims to enhance parents' knowledge regarding parenting patterns through parental education. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest and posttest. The total sampling technique was used to select 16 mothers' biological mothers (primary caregivers) of toddlers aged 12-36 months, permanent residents, and possessing adequate communication and literacy skills. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire instrument. The difference before and after the intervention was measured through statistical analysis using the Shapiro-Wilk test and the paired t-test at a significance level of α=0.05. Results: The majority of respondents were in age range of 20-40 years and had a background of elementary school (56.3%). The results showed changes in the cognitive domain of mothers: initially, 62.5% of respondents were in the category of low knowledge, which became 0% after the intervention, and 68.8% were in the category of good knowledge, significantly increasing (p=0.019). The average knowledge score increased from 4.38 to 7.00. The education provided was very effective for mothers with elementary education as preventive action. Recommendation: Parents should maximize the golden period of 1000 HPK by maintaining balanced nutrition and regularly monitoring the growth of toddlers.

Abstract

Low back pain is often experienced by pregnant women, especially during the third trimester, due to changes in posture, weight gain, and stretching of muscles and ligaments during pregnancy. The percentage of this complaint increases from 16% in early pregnancy to 67% at 24 weeks and peaks at 93% at 36 weeks. Various non-medical approaches have been implemented to address this complaint, including prenatal yoga and prenatal exercise. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of prenatal yoga and prenatal exercise in reducing low back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester. This study used a quantitative method with a two-group quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 40 pregnant women in their third trimester selected using purposive sampling and divided into two groups: the prenatal yoga group and the prenatal exercise group, each with 20 respondents. The intervention was provided twice a week for 60 minutes each session under the guidance of an experienced instructor and supported by leaflets and videos. The level of low back pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data analysis was performed using a dependent t-test followed by an independent t-test. The results showed that both prenatal yoga and prenatal exercise were equally effective in reducing low back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester (p=0.001; p<0.05). However, there was a significant difference in effectiveness between the two interventions (p=0.000; p<0.05), with prenatal yoga providing a greater reduction in pain. These findings suggest that prenatal yoga is more effective than prenatal exercise in reducing low back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester because it combines stretching, relaxation, breathing control, and muscle strengthening exercises that support postural stability during pregnancy

Abstract

Background: Shivering is a common complication following spinal anesthesia during cesarean section, with an incidence of 40-60%. In emergency cesarean section cases, this risk is higher due to patients presenting with labor exhaustion, hemodynamic disturbances, and acute stress responses. Preliminary data from RSUD Arifin Achmad, Riau Province, for November-December 2025 recorded approximately 32 emergency cesarean section cases, with several patients experiencing post-spinal anesthesia shivering. Intrathecal fentanyl has been used to prevent shivering; however, the addition of dexamethasone as an anti-inflammatory adjuvant is expected to provide a more optimal protective effect. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of fentanyl combined with dexamethasone versus fentanyl alone in preventing the incidence and severity of post-spinal anesthesia shivering in emergency cesarean section patients. Methods: A quantitative comparative study using a quasi-experimental post-test only control group design. A total of 24 patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 (Fentanyl + Dexamethasone, n=12) and Group 2 (Fentanyl alone, n=12). Shivering severity was assessed using the Wrench Scale and analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The incidence of shivering in Group 1 was 8.3% compared with 33.3% in Group 2. The mean Wrench Scale score in Group 1 was lower (0.33 +/- 0.78) than in Group 2 (0.83 +/- 1.11). Mann-Whitney analysis showed p = 0.193 (p > 0.05), no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: The combination of fentanyl and dexamethasone demonstrated a better clinical trend in reducing the incidence and severity of post-spinal anesthesia shivering in emergency cesarean section compared with fentanyl alone, although statistical significance was not reached, possibly due to the small sample size

Abstract

Anemia remains a significant nutritional challenge in Indonesia, with national data (Riskesdas 2018) indicating a prevalence of 32% among adolescent girls. Globally, the WHO estimates that approximately 40% of adolescent girls in developing countries are affected by anemia, with iron deficiency anemia as the predominant cause. The condition carries extensive consequences for physical growth, learning capacity, and future reproductive health. Utilizing locally accessible food resources is regarded as a feasible and enduring approach to improving hemoglobin status. This study aimed to evaluate the combined effect of tomato juice and guava juice consumption on hemoglobin levels among anemic adolescent girls. A quasi-experimental design with a single-group pretest-posttest approach was employed on 30 adolescent girls aged 10–19 years in Wanajaya Village, Bekasi Regency. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. Hemoglobin levels were assessed using a portable hemoglobinometer at two time points: before and after the intervention period. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was applied for statistical analysis. Findings demonstrated a reduction in anemia prevalence from 60% (18 participants) pre-intervention to 26.7% (8 participants) post-intervention, with 73.3% of participants achieving normal hemoglobin levels. The Wilcoxon test yielded Asymp. Sig. = 0.002 (p < 0.05), with 10 participants showing hemoglobin increases (Mean Rank 5.50) and no participants recording a decline (Negative Rank = 0). The study concludes that the combination of tomato juice and guava juice significantly improves hemoglobin levels and may serve as an effective food-based intervention for managing anemia in adolescent girls

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of lower back pain among third-trimester pregnant women in Indonesia is reported to range from 60% to 80%. If not managed with appropriate interventions, this condition can reduce the quality of life of pregnant women and interfere with their daily activities. Furthermore, untreated lower back pain may develop into prolonged chronic pain. In cases of chronic pain, management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving collaboration between physiotherapists and obstetricians-gynecologists. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest design. Samples were selected using a purposive sampling technique. A total of 30 respondents were recruited for each group. The inclusion criteria were third-trimester pregnant women with a gestational age of 28–34 weeks who experienced lower back pain, did not take pain-relief medication, and were willing to participate as respondents. The exclusion criterion was pregnant women with pregnancy complications during the third trimester. Results: The mean difference test within each treatment group showed significant results (p = 0.0001). The mean reduction in lower back pain intensity was 2.2 in the Pelvic Tilt Exercise group and 1.2 in the Slow Deep Breathing group. Conclusion:Pelvic Tilt Exercise and Slow Deep Breathing were found to have a significant effect on reducing lower back pain among third-trimester pregnant women. Recommendation:Pelvic Tilt Exercise and Slow Deep Breathing can be recommended as non-pharmacological interventions to reduce lower back pain in third-trimester pregnant women

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding coverage globally is still low, at around 38%, so it has not reached the global target of 50% by 2025. In Indonesia, exclusive breastfeeding coverage increased from 69.70% in 2022 to 70.01% in 2023. In Central Java it increased from 79.06% to 80.02%, while in Semarang City it reached 81.3%. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Krobokan Health Center is only 33.8%, so that 66.2% of babies have not received exclusive breastfeeding. As many as 52% of mothers who do not succeed in providing exclusive breastfeeding are working mothers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parity, knowledge, family support, availability of breastfeeding facilities, supervisor support, and peer support with the non-achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in working mothers in the working area of the Krobokan Health Center, Semarang City. Methods: A correlational analytical study with a case control design on 79 working mothers who had babies aged 6–12 months using purposive sampling techniques. The research will be carried out in November-December 2025. Data analysis used Chi-square test and binary logistics regression. Results: There was a correlation between parity (p=0.026; OR=3.157), knowledge (p=0.029; OR=3.059), availability of breastfeeding facilities (p=0.017; OR=3.375), family support (p=0.001; OR=5.600), support from the employer (p=0.036; OR=2.933), and peer support (p=0.033; OR=2.986) with the absence of exclusive breastfeeding in working mothers. Multivariate analysis showed that family support was the most dominant factor (p=0.001; OR=26,678). Conclusions: Parity, knowledge, family support, availability of breastfeeding facilities, employer support, and peer support were associated with the non-achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in working mothers, with family support as the most dominant factor

Abstract

Risky sexual behavior among adolescents remains a reproductive health concern that requires effective preventive educational interventions. Limited knowledge regarding reproductive health may increase adolescents' vulnerability to engaging in free-sex behavior. Video-based education is considered an effective medium because it delivers information through integrated visual and auditory elements. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of video media in improving students’ knowledge regarding the prevention of free-sex behavior at SMP Negeri 22 Pekanbaru in 2026. A quantitative study with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design was conducted. The population consisted of 609 students in grades VII and VIII, with 86 respondents selected using Cluster Random Sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.700). The intervention consisted of a 3-minute and 16-second educational video developed based on theories related to free-sex behavior. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a 95% confidence level (α=0.05). The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 10.05 before the intervention to 11.58 after the intervention. Statistical analysis indicated a significant effect of video media on students’ knowledge improvement (p<0.001). Video-based education was proven effective in increasing students’ knowledge regarding the prevention of free-sex behavior and may be considered an alternative reproductive health education medium in school settings.

Abstract

Introduction : Language development in children aged 1-3 years is a critical foundation for learning readiness and social interaction. Language disorders or delays are a significant public health problem, with risk factors such as inappropriate gadget use, lack of early stimulation, and parenting dynamics influenced by maternal employment status. Objective : To determine the relationship between gadget use, stimulation provision, and maternal employment status on the language development of children aged 1-3 years at the Koto Panjang Ikua Koto Public Health Center, Padang City. Method : This study employed a cross-sectional design. A sample of 75 children aged 1-3 years was selected using two-stage sampling (simple random sampling to select 10 posyandu, followed by consecutive sampling). Data were collected through observation of language development using the Denver II instrument and interviews using a questionnaire. Results : The results showed that the proportion of children with delayed language development was 37.3%. There was a significant relationship between gadget use and language development (p=0.000) with a 54.6 times greater risk, and between stimulation provision and language development (p=0.000) with a 184.5 times greater risk. However, there was no significant relationship between maternal employment status and children's language development (p=0.898). Recommendation : Health workers are expected to intensify education about the negative impacts of gadgets and the importance of quality language stimulation. Parents are advised to limit the duration of gadget use and improve the quality of interaction and verbal stimulation consistently according to the child's developmental stages.
