Abstract

Background – In the era of global awareness of sustainability, organizations are increasingly prioritizing environmentally friendly practices as part of their business strategies, including through green hiring. This approach aligns with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasize environmental protection. However, research on the impact of green hiring on environmental performances, particularly in Indonesia's manufacturing sector, remains limited. Aim – This study aims to analyze the impact of green hiring on environmental performances in manufacturing companies in Batam and evaluate the mediating roles of green performance management and green compensation. Design/Methodology/Approach – The study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation co (PLS-SEM). The sample includes 279 respondents from PT. Panasonic Industrial Devices Batam and PT. Philips Industries Batam. Data were collected through an online questionnaire measuring green hiring, green performance management, green compensation, and environmental performances. Findings – The findings reveal that green hiring positively and significantly influences green performance management, green compensation, and environmental performances. Furthermore, green performance management and green compensation partially mediate the relationship between green hiring and environmental performances. These results align with previous studies, emphasizing the importance of integrating environmentally friendly practices into human resource management to enhance environmental performance. Conclusion – This study highlights that green hiring is a critical factor in improving environmental performance, both directly and through environmentally oriented performance management and compensation systems. Research Implications – The study contributes to the literature on green human resource management (GHRM) and offers practical insights for HR managers to enhance environmental performance through green recruitment and compensation policies. Research Limitations – The study is limited to the manufacturing sector in Batam and uses cross-sectional data, which may not be generalizable to other sectors or provide insights into long-term relationships between variables.

Abstract

Background – Boycotts are a form of rejection that has been going on for a long time and has a significant impact on product sales, production and marketing . Aim – This study further explores the relationship between negative word of mouth, brand hate, brand betrayal and desire for avoidance in the context of the boycott phenomenon against fast food restaurants, McDonald's. Design / methodology / approach – This study focuses on consumers in Indonesia who have purchased McDonald's products both before and after the boycott. The method used in this study is quantitative with purposive sampling technique and the analysis tool is Smart-PLS-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings – The results of this study show that there is an influence between the NWOM variable on brand hate and brand betrayal, brand hate influences desire for avoidance. However, NWOM and brand betrayal have no effect on desire for avoidance. Nevertheless, NWOM mediated by hatred of the brand is proven to directly influence the desire for avoidance, while when mediated by hatred of the brand, the effect is insignificant. Conclusion – This study reveals that a person's decision to continue buying or avoiding a boycotted brand is not solely influenced by negative information, but is also influenced by various factors, such as the need for the product. Research implications – Based on the results of this study, companies need to pay more attention to managing negative sentiment, especially on social media, to prevent the emergence of hatred towards brands that have the potential to cause long-term loss of consumers. Limitations – The limitation of this study is the limited number of consumers who boycott. Not all individuals will avoid boycotted brands due to religious beliefs, sympathy, or geographical limitations covering only one country.

Abstract

Background – Employee well-being, both physical and mental, is crucial, as previous research has shown its impact on organizational success and goal achievement. These conditions encompass experiences, skills, emotions, and behavioural patterns and are influenced by individual characteristics, including generational differences. Aim – This research seeks to explore the state of work-life balance by examining three key dimensions: Work Interference with Personal Life (WIPL), Personal Life Interference with Work (PLIW), and Work and Personal Life Enhancement (WPLE) influence employee performance and happiness within two generational groups: Generation Y and Generation Z. Design / methodology / approach – This research applies a quantitative and explanatory approach, with questionnaires distributed to 770 respondents, including employees from government, private sectors, entrepreneurs, and other categories. The data was analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS version 4. Results and Discussion – The analysis results indicate that all three dimensions significantly influence the performance of employees in Generation Z. However, for Generation Y, only the WIPL and WPLE dimensions have a significant impact on their workplace performance. Both generations experience significant increases in happiness through WIPL and WPLE. Happiness is positive and significant effects on performance and only mediates the relationship with performance in Generation Z for PLIW negatively and for the WIPL and WPLE on performance for both generations with a stronger effects in Generation Y. Conclusion - This study concludes that work-life balance dimensions influence employee performance differently across generations, with stronger effects in Generation Y than Generation Z. These findings highlight the need for flexible work arrangements to optimize employee performance and happiness. Research implication – These findings have implications for work patterns, recruitment systems, and company policies, suggesting the need for effective and comfortable working methods tailored to employees from different generational categories.  Limitations – The study’s limitations include the combination of all job categories, which may introduce bias in perceptions of dimensions, character, and performance. Additionally, cultural aspects should be considered as an external factor influencing individual behavior patterns and work methods.

Abstract

Background – The business world is increasingly focusing on sustainability and environmentally friendly human resource management. The practice of Green Human Resource Management (Green HRM) is a crucial strategy for enhancing the image of a socially and environmentally responsible organization. Green HRM not only fosters concern for the environment but also shapes pro-environmental behavior in the workplace, enhances employee engagement, and increases job satisfaction, ultimately affecting employee retention. Aim – This study aims to analyze the influence of Green Human Resource Management (Green HRM) and Organizational Support on employee retention rates in manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), examining both direct and indirect effects through the mediating roles of work engagement, job satisfaction, and affective commitment. Design/ Methodology/ Approach – This study employs a quantitative approach with a survey design to investigate the relationship between Green Human Resource Management (GHRM), Organizational Support, Affective Commitment, and Employee Retention in manufacturing SMEs in Malang. The research sample consisted of 149 permanent employees, selected using purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data was collected through an online questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale. The research instrument has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the direct and indirect relationships between variables in the research model. Findings – This study found that Green HRM has a positive and significant effect on employee affective commitment, and affective commitment has a positive effect on employee retention. However, the direct influence of Green HRM on employee retention is not significant without the mediation of affective commitment. In contrast, organizational support has no significant effect on affective commitment or employee retention. These findings confirm that employee emotional commitment is a key factor in strengthening the relationship between Green HRM practices and employees' decisions to stay in the company. Conclusion – This research emphasizes the importance of developing sustainability-based human resource management strategies to strengthen employee emotional attachment, which ultimately supports efforts to retain the workforce in the manufacturing SME sector. Research implication – This research suggests that Green HRM practices are effective in increasing employee retention through affective commitment. In the future, management studies should focus more on integrating sustainability into human resource (HR) strategies to enhance organizational loyalty and competitiveness. Limitations – The variables analyzed only included Green HRM, organizational support, engagement, job satisfaction, and affective commitment, so other factors that may affect employee retention, such as leadership style or organizational culture, have not been explored.

Abstract

Background – The demand for credit services in Parbarakan Village has increased significantly every year. This increase is generally driven by various factors, especially the socio-economic conditions of the community, such as insufficient income to meet the needs of life, both basic needs and urgent needs. This condition encourages many housewives to apply for loans as an effort to cover the lack of funds. The majority of people who work as farmers with unstable incomes also strengthen the need for loans. This situation is then exploited by certain parties from outside by providing massive loan offers, thus encouraging an increase in demand. Objective – To find out the role of the Perbarakan village government in resolving the problem of mobile banking services among the community. Design/ methodology/ approach – This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach. Where primary data is obtained by observing and interviewing mobile bank officers and customers using mobile bank services. Data collection techniques in this study were carried out in several ways, namely by field observation, data obtained through this observation are the main data collected directly in the field. Interviews to obtain data directly, researchers conducted interviews with informants who were given a series of questions. Findings – the role of the government in solving the problem of mobile banks in Perbarakan village is that the village government creates its own bank through BUMDES with the hope that the people of Perbarakan village can be helped with capital loans offered by the government with very small interest so as not to burden the people of Perbarakan village. Creating training for young people and housewives, the purpose of holding training by BUMDes is also part of the process of absorbing community aspirations that may have rarely been touched by the village. One of them is sewing course training. In Perbarakan village, the majority of housewives have sewing skills to be able to maximize this, BUMDes must create a convection company where the company can sell sewing works from housewives in Perbarakan village. As the results of the interview conducted with the head of Perbarakan village who stated that in our village there are always sewing courses for mothers, the hope is that sewing courses in our village can be additional income for mothers in our village and hopefully it can reduce the community’s dependence on this mobile bank. Implications – This study reveals the reasons why people choose to use mobile banks, then with this study can find the factors that cause people to borrow from mobile banks and what they are used for and this study reveals what risks people face when choosing to use the services of mobile banks. And this study also explains how the role of the village government is in solving the problems of people who use mobile bank services in Perbarakan village.
