Abstract

This study reveals how prospective teacher students solve Integral Calculus problems with three different assistances, namely the Assistance of Lecturer Tutors, Google Search Tutors, and Artificial Intelligent (AI) Tutors through Socratic Application. This study used a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to reveal participants' learning experiences. Research participants consisted of nine people who were divided into three groups with different assistance. The data obtained were in the form of recorded discussions, interviews, recorded cellphone screens, and artifacts of student answers. All data is analyzed based on the activity of the respondents in seeking and finding answers. The research findings show that students who study with the help of lecturer tutors are more careful in proposing assistance from the search and sorting of answers stage. While students who use AI and Google Search have almost the same characteristics in starting a search, but at the stage of sorting answers,  AI is thought as able to provide more efficient and accurate recommendations answers.

Abstract

Students' lack of interest in studying mathematics has an impact on their memory of the material taught. Weak memory in understanding the material is one of the obstacles in learning mathematics. This becomes a challenge for educators to find the right learning method. When studying arithmetic sequences and series, a strong memory really helps students' understanding. In this research, the mathematical maze is used as a learning method to strengthen student retention. The aim of the research is to describe the retention of student learning outcomes after mathematics learning assisted by Math Maze on arithmetic sequences and series. This research uses a qualitative approach. The data collection process was carried out by post-test and re-test. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that the retention of student learning outcomes in learning arithmetic sequences and series through the mathematical maze was relatively high. This means that the math maze can be an alternative to learning mathematics.

Abstract

This research targets teachers' efforts to transform 21st-century skills in learning. A total of 30 lesson plans made by elementary school teachers participating in the Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University Teacher Professional Education training in 2021-2022 were analyzed based on the accuracy of using operational verbs used by teachers in describing 4-Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication, and collaboration), compared to verbs/base outcomes on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This research uses the content analysis method, with stages: formulating problems, selecting samples/sources of research data, categorizing, coding, clarifying summary content, analyzing coding results, and presenting and interpreting data based on theories or hypotheses of thought. Data analysis uses qualitative analysis, including data reduction, presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of the research obtained are (1) in transforming 21st-century skills, the level of teacher understanding of communication skills is the best compared to other 4-Cs, (2) teachers have low pedagogic and professional knowledge, this is shown by the mistakes made by teachers in choosing the correct operational verbs to describe 4-Cs in designing learning. This study also recommends upgrading and increasing teachers' understanding of the 4 Cs in realizing 21st-century learning by curriculum and policy achievements that are right on target.

Abstract

Students in class VII still have difficulty solving contextual problems related to the concept of a square. Through research, it will be shown that Realistic Mathematics Education(RME) and expository are more effective if it is based on students' post-test results after studying the concept of a square. The research objectives were achieved using a quasi-experimental method involving 2 groups of subjects, namely an experimental group of 33 students and a control group of 34 students. The subject group came from the class VII population at one of the junior high schools in Kebumen. The data analyzed is in the form of final semester exam results and posttest results collected using a test instrument in the form of 10 multiple choice questions. The data were analyzed using balance tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and effectiveness tests. Based on the results of the t-test and the hypothesis determined by the researcher, it can be shown that the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education(RME) method is more effective than the expository method. This conclusion is also strengthened by the mean value of the experimental group which is higher than the control group.

Abstract

Project Based Learning (PjBL) approach encourages students to be more active, independent, and creative problem solvers, thereby fostering character values such as creativity and curiosity. This research applies the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to examine the PjBL model in mathematics education at the junior high school level. PjBL as a learning model involves teachers acting as facilitators who present students with project-based problems to solve independently. This approach stimulates students to design processes and frameworks to find solutions to given problems. The study focuses on various mathematical topics including Flat-Sided Spatial Structures (Cube, Rectangular Prism, and Prism), Curved-Sided Spatial Structures (Sphere, Cylinder, Cone), Quadratic Functions, Trigonometry, and Systems of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SLETV). The analysis concludes that the PjBL model enhances mathematical learning by promoting product-oriented learning, student-centered approaches, fostering critical thinking and real-life problem-solving skills, as well as encouraging collaborative abilities and competition among peers. These findings underscore the effectiveness of integrating PjBL into mathematics education and highlight its implications for fostering holistic student development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' numeracy literacy skills in solving problems related to the surface area and volume of prisms. Numeracy literacy is one of the essential competencies that students need to master in order to support problem-solving in daily life. The research method used is qualitative descriptive. The subjects of this study were 32 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in the city of Tasikmalaya. The research instrument was a mathematical numeracy literacy test consisting of essay and multiple-choice questions that had been validated by experts. The results of the study indicate that students' numeracy literacy skills, in general, are in the medium category, but there is a significant difference between students with high and low mathematical conceptual understanding. Students with a good understanding of mathematical concepts tend to have higher numeracy literacy skills, especially in solving problems related to calculating the volume of prisms. However, in questions requiring spatial reasoning and interpretation to calculate surface area, many students faced difficulties, particularly those with lower numeracy literacy skills. The discussion of these findings highlights the importance of strengthening basic mathematical concept understanding to improve students' numeracy literacy. The use of more interactive and contextual learning models can help students connect mathematical concepts to real-life situations. The implications of this research emphasize the need to improve the quality of mathematics teaching, focusing on the simultaneous development of numeracy literacy. Mathematics teachers are expected to design learning strategies that integrate concept strengthening with numeracy literacy practice in various everyday life contexts.Copyright © 2021Universit All rights reserved.

Abstract

Based on preliminary study results, it was found that students' mathematical problem-solving abilities were still low. This study aims to determine the improvement of mathematical problem-solving skills through the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model assisted by MEDICA. This research is a quantitative experimental study with a pre-experimental design. The research design used is the one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study consists of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Pati Wetan 01, with a total sample of 31 students selected using a census (total sampling) technique. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. Data analysis techniques involve normality tests and N-Gain tests. The N-Gain test analysis results show an overall improvement score of 0.66, which falls into the medium category. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the TGT learning model assisted by MEDICA can improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. These findings indicate that the application of the TGT learning model assisted by MEDICA is effective in enhancing students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This study suggests using the TGT learning model assisted by MEDICA as an effective strategy to improve elementary students' mathematical problem-solving abilities.
