Abstract

This research examines the impact of implementing different learning models on students’ critical thinking abilities (CTS) with different academic achievements. This research was a quasi-experiment and involved 134 high school students in Jember. Research classes are divided into project-based learning (PjBL) and conventional learning, then divided based on academic achievement, namely high and low. Data was collected using essay exams supported by the CTS assessment rubric. Information was analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and continued with the least significant difference (LSD) test. The research results show that i) there is a significant difference in the development of CTS between students who follow the PjBL learning model and students who follow conventional learning; ii) there are differences in CTS development between high and low-achieving students; and iii) there is an interaction between the learning model and student academic achievement which influences the development of CTS. Based on these findings, it can be interpreted that the PjBL learning model effectively increases the development of CTS in high and low-achieving students, especially in low-achieving students. The PjBL learning model encourages students to be active, think critically, work together and solve problems. Teachers can improve the critical thinking skills of students with low academic abilities through the PjBL learning model.

Abstract

Vaccinating children is a critical life-saving measure that ensures herd immunity and saves numerous lives. However, the rising trend of parental refusal to vaccinate poses a significant threat to disease containment within societies. Amid the widespread COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia, this study examines how subjective standards impact parents’ vaccination intentions and behaviors. Lockdowns and travel restrictions during the pandemic caused a decline in vaccination rates due to missed appointments for children’s vaccinations. Even post-pandemic, some parents persist in refusing vaccination for their children. Conducting an online survey and employing quantitative, the study collected data from parents with children aged 1 day to 15 years old. Analyzing the data through IBM SPSS and employing SmartPLS 4.0.9.5 software, specifically using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), revealed significant insights. The findings indicate that parents’ willingness to vaccinate their children significantly predicts their actual vaccination behavior. Moreover, social norms positively influence parental vaccination intentions. The study highlights the mediating role of vaccination intention between social norms and actual vaccination behavior among parents. Overall, this empirical research strongly supports the theory of planned behavior (TPB) model, emphasizing the importance of targeting social norms to foster vaccination behavior and elevate vaccination rates.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of an integrative approach on students’ reading comprehension, using information and communication technology (ICT) and reading comprehension, the students’ digital literacy and reading comprehension. The quantitative method used an analytical study with cross-sectional research. The data was collected through a questionnaire. There were 473 primary schools with a total of 16,286 children (8,476 male students and 7,810 female students) selected at random as a sample of 400 learners in elementary schools. The findings showed that the integrative approach has a beneficial effect of using ICT and students’ reading comprehension and reading literacy. The use of an integrative approach for reading comprehension and using ICT can promote students’ digital literacy. The student’s reading comprehension and the integrative approach technique were favorable, as seen by the students’ excitement and seriousness. The utilization of this integrative approach can enhance the student’s ability to comprehend reading comprehension and get effectiveness and efficiency of the Indonesian language. This study provides integrated reading-literacy technology (IRLT) that significantly impacts reading comprehension through the use of ICT and an integrative approach in the reading instruction.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study examines the efficacy of GeoGebra in enhancing trigonometric competence among tenth-grade students in Montería, Colombia. Comparing an experimental group that used GeoGebra with a control group receiving traditional teaching, key competencies such as reasoning and argumentation, communication, representation and modeling, and problem posing and solving were evaluated. Pre-intervention results showed that 88.19% of students in the experimental group had insufficient performance in reasoning and argumentation. After the implementation of GeoGebra, this figure decreased to 5.5%. In competencies of communication, representation, and modeling, the insufficient performance reduced from 85.7% to 5.5%, and in problem posing and solving, from 80.3% to 5.7%. These significant improvements demonstrate the positive impact of GeoGebra on the development of mathematical competencies. The study concludes that GeoGebra is an effective tool for strengthening trigonometric competence in high school students, highlighting the importance of integrating digital technologies in mathematics education. The findings suggest the need for more research on the use of technological tools in mathematics education and support investment in technological resources and teacher training.

Abstract

Teachers play a crucial role in improving the quality of education, an essential aspect of national education development, which applies universally in various cultures and countries. As national education standards and needs increase, educational development becomes a necessity. This study seeks to investigate the enhancement of teacher quality dimensions to elevate national education standards, employing a case study approach with mixed methods. The sampling involved random selection from five senior high schools in Lampung, comprising 190 students and 10 teachers. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The analysis of questionnaire data utilized structural equation modeling (SEM) through Lisrel 8.50 assistance. The qualitative phase encompassed data reduction, presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. Results indicate that the model fits well with a Satorra-Bentler scaled Chi-square value of 189.190, a p-value coefficient of 0.070 (>0.05), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) of 0.030 (<0.080), and comparative fit index (CFI)≥0.90, suggesting its acceptability. The assessment of teachers’ professional management in enhancing education quality focuses on preparation, implementation, and evaluation, offering significant potential for improving senior high school teachers’ quality.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of historical thinking that can be applied to all aspects of online historical thinking skills. The analysis proposed by Gall was used in developing the model and it involves the following stages: instrument design; instrument development; analysis; and initial data collection. A total of 148 high school students participated in this study, and data were gathered through literature analysis sheets, interviews, needs analysis questionnaire for the development of e-project skills assessment tools, expert validation test, and e-project assessment. The findings showed that the e-project is valid and reliable for evaluating historical thinking skills in remote learning, with all components having a high reliability rating of 0.78 and validity values ranging from 0.77 to 1.30. Subsequently, a valid, reliable, and acceptable e-project website was created to assess student’s competence in historical thinking. This research offers options for teachers to effectively assess and monitor students’ historical thinking skills while also improving a more interactive and interesting learning style.

Abstract

Connecting measurement concepts from informal to formal situations was challenging for students, specifically in understanding length and area measurements in elementary school. The use of cultural context in mathematics learning have been identified as a potential solution to address these challenges, although further exploration was required. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of mathematics learning designs outside classroom that integrate the culture of Bengkulu, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design was used with a total of 83 fifth-grade students from two medium- and high-level elementary schools. The assessment instrument comprised six test questions and an observation sheet to record students’ activities. The results showed that students in high-level schools understood teacher instructions and worksheets more quickly, providing additional time for measuring practice. Conversely, students at medium-level schools tended to wait for instructions. The inferential analysis showed that integrating mathematics learning designs outside classroom in Bengkulu cultural context did not significantly increase the understanding of area and length measurements for students in medium-level schools but positively impacted those in high-level schools. Therefore, this method had the potential to improve understanding of other mathematical concepts, specifically when effectively implemented in schools with higher levels of understanding.

Abstract

An inspiring supervision model based on the Tut Wuri Handayani concept, with a research and development (R&D) approach that refers to the Borg and Gall model, has been successfully developed. Through a comprehensive investigation, this study aims to bolster the competence and effectiveness of teachers. Model feasibility evaluation was carried out by two model design experts, with an average ideal percentage value of 86.2% (outstanding assessment and feasibility categories). Model feasibility evaluation was carried out by two model design experts and two content design experts. The average ideal percentage value given by model design experts was 86.2% (outstanding assessment and feasibility categories), while that given by content design experts was 76.64% (outstanding service and feasibility categories). Based on the test for model users three times, t-test data was obtained for a small group between commitment and competence, fighting power and competence, and religion and competence, showing tcount>ttable, respectively. The t-test results for the medium and large groups also show tcount>ttable. The dataset analysis shows that the inspiring supervision model based on Tut Wuri Handayani is practical and feasible. This research sheds light on the positive impact of implementing the Tut Wuri Handayani supervision model for enhancing teacher competence and, consequently, improving the quality of the learning process.

Abstract

This study investigates the acceptance of camera simulator technology as a learning media by Indonesian vocational high school (VHS) students and examines the relationships among influencing factors. It proposes an acceptance model integrating the technology acceptance model (TAM) 3 and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). Ten factors impacting technology acceptance were identified, resulting in the formulation of 15 hypotheses regarding inter-construct relationships. In this empirical study, a quantitative approach was employed, distributing questionnaires to 200 students at Public Vocational High School 10 in Bandung, specializing in broadcasting and filmmaking programs. After analyzing 145 valid responses, the study progressed in two stages: the measurement model and the structural model. The evaluation of the measurement model confirmed the validity of all indicators and constructs, ensuring compliance with the established standards. In the structural model evaluation, one construct (computer anxiety) and four inter-construct relationships were excluded. This research enhances our understanding of factors influencing camera simulator technology acceptance among VHS students in Indonesia, shedding light on the complexities of their decision-making process in adopting this educational tool.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills (PSS) are essential for students to face challenges in the 21st century. Based on PISA results, the PSS of Indonesian students are in a low category. Not only that, a few assessments of PSS have been developed. This study aims to analyze the quality of the ethnoscience-Quizizz test (EQT). The research method used is R&D with the ADDIE model. The data analysis technique was based on the Rasch analysis using the Ministep software. The item and person reliability are 0.9 (good) and 0.40. Cronbach’s alpha has a value of 0.53. The MNSQ-ZSTD infit-outfit score is in a suitable category. Each item is relatively accurate and do not have DIF. In addition, the EQT is suitable to measure students’ PSS because it has passed the criteria. The EQT incorporates indicators for problem-solving, making it appropriate for 21st-century learning with an ethnoscience “Kerapan Sapi” problem context. Future studies can use this problem-solving test to determine the profiles of students’ problem-solving abilities using Rasch analysis.
