Abstract

This study aimed to improve the students’ productive disposition (PD) through Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning with an outdoor approach based on school level. Productive disposition development is intended so that students can appreciate mathematics as a science needed for their lives. The method used in this research was a quasi-experimental study. The population was 210 students of the fifth grade of Elementary School from five schools. The sample was 75 fifth grade students. The data were collected by using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test to find out the difference between the experimental and the control group. The results of this study indicate that RME learning with the outdoor approach more influential than the conventional learning in improving PD in high school level. Otherwise, in medium and low level school, the conventional learning was more influential than the RME learning with the outdoor approach to improve the students’ PD. Therefore, it can be concluded that the school level needs to be considered in improving students’ productive disposition through RME learning with an outdoor approach. Moreover, RME learning with an outdoor approach as an alternative model to improve productive disposition of students.

Abstract

This research initiated by some research result regarding the lower Reasoning and Mathematics Representation of student on the math learning. In order to upgrade the abilities is passing through the guided inquiry learning. The aim of the reasearch  is to analyze comprehensively on accomplishment reasoning and math representation of student who gain the guided inquiry learning and conventional learning. The research is applying experiment method by design of one group pretest-posttest. The result of research indicates the guided inquiry learning is more effective in accomplishment and improvement of student representation capabilities and student comprehend compared with the conventional learning. Reasoning and Mathematics Representation of group student or guided inquiry learning is higher from the group student of conventional learning. The improvement of Mathematics Reasoning of Group Student of guided inquiry learning values 0.33 on the medium category, while the improvement of Mathematics Representation of group student of conventional learning values 0.19 on the low category. The amount of improvement on Mathematics Representation of group student of the guided inquiry learning is 0.41 on the medium category, and the improvement on Mathematics Representation of group student of conventional learning is 0.26 is on the low category.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analysing the different on upgrade the student’s math representation that obtained the guided inquiry learning and conventional learning. This research conducted by applying experiment method with nonequivalent control group design at one school. Which becoming research subject are students of Dharma Karya UT Middle School at 8th Grade. 8-2 class selected as control class (19 students) and 8-3 class selected as experiment class (20 students). Before and after learning process, two classes given the test of math representation with reliability is 0.70 (high category). The magnitude of the increasing in students’ math representation student group of guided inquiry learning group is 0.41 included as medium category. Meanwhile, the increasing students’ math representation student group of conventional learning is 0.26 included as low category. In conclusion, the hypothesis of the ability of the mathematical representation of students who learning with guided inquiry is better than students with conventional learning is accepted.

Abstract

The Purpose of this study is to determine the achievement and improvement of students’ mathematical connectionability through using outdoor mathematics learning. 64 students from the fifth grade of Primary School at SDN 65 and SDN 67 Bengkulu City were taken as the sample of this study. While the method of the research used in this research is experiment with quasi-experimental designs non-equivalent control group. The results of the study are as follows: (1) There is an increasing ability found in mathematical connection of students whom taught by using outdoors mathematics learning is 0,53; (2) Based on statical computation that achievement of students’ ability of mathematical connection is taught by using outdoor mathematics learning score is 71,25. It is higher than the students score 66,25 which were taught by using the conventional learning. So as to improve students’ mathematical connection, teachers are suggested to use the outdoors mathematics learning

Abstract

This study attemps to determine impact of the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model on the improvement of deductive reasoning ability, and to describe the perceptions of teachers and students of secondary schools toward the RME model. A quasi-experiment with pretest-postest non-equivalent group as research design was employed into 2 groups of research subject: the experimental group and the control group and each was treated under RME and conventional teaching model. A number of 44 students of SMPN1 Parung and 20 students of SMP Islam Terpadu Jabon Mekar in Parung District were chosen as research subjects. Quantitative data obtained through questionnaires and written tests were analyzed using Student-t test. While qualitative information gathered through responses to personal interview and observations was analyzed using qualitative-naturalistics method. Findings reveals that learning mathematics using the RME model impacts on increasing students deductive learning ability in both schools with amount of increase is 30.7 for SMP Islam Terpadu and 44.8 for SMPN1 Parung. RME model also impacts on developing students positive attitude of students toward mathematics as seen in the number of students who liked mathematics lesson, that is 100% for SMP Islam Terpadu and 97% SMPN 1 Parung. The perceptions of teachers and students in both schools toward the RME Model are positive. Application of learning mathematics using PMR model becomes more enjoyable and students become more active.

Abstract

The Smith normal form and left good matrix have been known in matrix theorem. Any matrix over the principal ideal ring has a Smith normal form. The Smith normal form of a matrix has many applications on various fields such as a solution of Diophantin linear equation and differential equation system. Furthermore, a matrix A with entries in a commutative ring R with unity is left good if for every vector x, the ideal áxAñ is the same as the ideal áAñ. This paper discusses the relation between the Smith normal form and left good matrix. The relation is as the following: matrix A with entries in principal ideal ring of size m by n, with m < n, has Smith normal form [Im, O] if only if A is a left good matrix.
