Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the public speaking skills of Hindu Communication Science students during the learning process. The research focuses on three main questions: (1) How are the public speaking abilities of Hindu Communication Science students during lectures? (2) What challenges do they encounter in the learning process? (3) How do they overcome public speaking challenges? The study applies public speaking theory and interpersonal communication theory as its theoretical foundation. A qualitative approach was used, employing techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process consisted of four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion. The results show that most students demonstrate moderately good public speaking skills, particularly in expressing opinions, delivering material, and participating in classroom discussions. Factors such as interactive learning environments, involvement in student organizations, and support from lecturers contribute positively to skill development. However, students still face several challenges, including nervousness, lack of confidence, and difficulty in organizing messages systematically. Internal factors like anxiety and limited literacy, as well as external factors such as an unsupportive communication environment, also affect their performance. To address these challenges, students engage in regular practice, prepare their materials thoroughly, and apply nonverbal communication techniques effectively.

Abstract

His paper examines the transformation of Hindu Kaharingan and its strategic role in fostering interreligious harmony within the multicultural society of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. Hindu Kaharingan, originally the traditional belief system of the Dayak people, was formally integrated into Hinduism in the 1980s to gain administrative recognition, thereby creating a dual identity that blends local spirituality with formal religious structures. Employing a systematic literature review and a theoretical-critical approach with interdisciplinary analysis, this study aims to synthesize findings on the function of Hindu Kaharingan as a socioreligious actor. The research demonstrates that infrastructures such as Balai Basarah and the institutional body Majelis Besar Agama Hindu Kaharingan (MB-AHK) serve as key platforms for dialogue, cultural preservation, and social integration through rituals and interfaith collaboration. Despite facing challenges such as politicization and shifts in the values of younger generations, the community exhibits resilience by revitalizing traditions and leveraging digital media. Consequently, this paper argues that Hindu Kaharingan occupies a strategic position in shaping inclusive social structures and makes a significant contribution to the discourse on local religions, identity politics, and cultural diversity in Indonesia.

Abstract

The digital era has fundamentally transformed religious communication, shifting interactions from physical spaces to virtual platforms. This article systematically reviews the literature to analyze how educative approaches are implemented in Hindu religious communication within the Indonesian digital ecosystem, focusing on the YouTube platform. The core research question addresses the different educative strategies employed by both institutional and individual Hindu religious actors. Using a qualitative content analysis of literature from the last three years (2023-2025), this study maps the characteristics, strategies, and challenges of digital religious communication. The findings reveal a clear divergence in these educative approaches. Institutional actors (e.g., PHDI, Bimas Hindu) tend to use a formal-informative approach, leveraging digital media for program dissemination and organizational documentation through a monologic communication model. In contrast, charismatic individual figures (e.g., Ida Pandita Mpu Jaya Acharya Nanda) utilize a personal-dialogic approach that focuses on in-depth theological education, pastoral guidance, and interactive community engagement. This phenomenon points to a significant decentralization of religious authority, where digital platforms facilitate the rise of new knowledge centers outside of formal structures. The primary challenge lies in maintaining theological depth amid the demands of digital media engagement while also bridging the digital literacy gap within the community.

Abstract

This article examines Tri Kaya Parisudha as an internal ethical framework for strengthening the professionalism of Hindu journalists in the digital media era. Using a literature review approach, the study analyzes academic works on digital journalism, misinformation, algorithmic bias, fact-checking, and Hindu ethical values, then maps them into the three dimensions of manacika, wacika, and kayika. The analysis shows that manacika functions as cognitive discipline in resisting premature publication and prioritizing verification; wacika functions as language ethics that guide accurate, proportional, and socially responsible reporting; and kayika functions as concrete professional action expressed in verification routines, editorial independence, and openness to correction. The study argues that Tri Kaya Parisudha does not merely represent a moral doctrine, but can be formulated as an operational ethical framework relevant to contemporary journalism. Its contribution lies in connecting Hindu ethical values with the challenges of digital journalism, particularly misinformation, speed pressure, and polarized information environments. However, its implementation requires support from newsroom governance and ethics-based journalistic education

Abstract

The digital age and the widespread use of smartphones have greatly changed how families communicate. The habit of ignoring others for a phone, known as phubbing, has lowered the quality of the relationship between parents and children. This literature review examines family communication in the digital era using the values of the Nitisastra. It also reviews how previous studies on this topic were conducted. By analyzing research published between 2016 and 2026, the findings show that smartphone distractions hinder children's mental and emotional development. As a solution, the Nitisastra provides an age-appropriate communication guide to help rebuild emotional bonds in the family. Furthermore, this study finds that previous research relies too much on self-assessments, which can be inaccurate. Therefore, future studies should use more in-depth and varied methods to evaluate family communication.

Abstract

The development of the tourism industry in the digital age has driven changes in communication strategies for promoting tourist destinations, particularly cultural tourism. One communication approach that has emerged in modern tourism promotion is storytelling. Storytelling is not only used as a medium for conveying information but also as a communication strategy capable of fostering emotional engagement among tourists, strengthening cultural identity, and enhancing the image of tourist destinations. This study aims to analyze the role of storytelling in cultural tourism promotion, specifically within the context of Dayak culture in Central Kalimantan. The research employs a Literature Review method using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Data were collected from various literature sources such as Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Garuda, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. The findings indicate that storytelling plays a strategic role in cultural tourism communication as it fosters more authentic, emotional, and meaningful travel experiences. Digital storytelling via social media and digital platforms has also proven effective in expanding cultural tourism promotion to a global audience. Dayak culture holds significant potential as a source of cultural tourism narratives through its legends, traditional rituals, the Huma Betang philosophy, and the local wisdom values cherished by the Dayak community. However, the application of storytelling in cultural tourism promotion still faces various challenges, such as a shortage of creative human resources, a lack of documentation of local culture, and the risk of cultural commercialization. Therefore, an innovative, authentic, and sustainable digital communication strategy based on storytelling is needed to strengthen the cultural tourism identity of Central Kalimantan while supporting the preservation of local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personal branding strategies of guidance and counseling (GC) teachers in building trust and increasing students’ interest in accessing counseling services at SMP Negeri 14 Denpasar. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving GC teachers and students who were purposively selected. The data were analyzed interactively through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, member checking, and an audit trail. The results showed that the personal branding of GC teachers was implicitly built through communication that was friendly, open, empathetic, responsive, and consistent, and was strengthened through the use of digital media as a space for delivering information and initiating communication with students. Trust was an important element linking personal branding to students’ interest in accessing counseling services. Positive experiences with GC teachers can reduce psychological distance and encourage students to seek assistance voluntarily. However, this strategy did not generate uniform responses because some students continued to perceive counseling services as being associated with disciplinary violations and punishment. These findings confirm that the personal branding of GC teachers is a long-term communication process that requires consistency, authenticity, service quality, and digital adaptation to build trust and increase students’ access to counseling services

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the temporal convergence of Nyepi, the Saka New Year 1947, and Eid al-Fitr 1446 AH creates a space for interfaith communication and how religious meanings are negotiated through digital media. This study employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through observations of social media content and interviews with religious leaders, religious social media practitioners, and active digital media users. Observations focused on communication developed across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter/X, particularly the representation of symbols, religious holiday greetings, and interactions among users. The findings show that the temporal proximity of the two religious holidays creates a moment of digital communication that brings together diverse religious identities, symbols, and expressions within the same public space. This process occurs through three main forms: symbolic convergence, reflected in the juxtaposition of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr symbols; narrative convergence, reflected in the articulation of values such as introspection, peace, self-restraint, purification, forgiveness, and brotherhood; and interactional convergence, manifested through comments, content sharing, discussions, and clarification among users. The study also finds that religious holiday greetings have expanded from ceremonial messages into a medium for meaning negotiation and social communication. Adaptations in language, symbols, and visual representations enable religious messages to maintain their respective spiritual identities while remaining accessible to interfaith audiences. These findings reinforce the Digital Religion perspective, which views digital spaces as social environments where religious practices, identities, and meanings are constructed through interaction, and are consistent with the concept of Network Society, which explains the formation of social relations across boundaries through digital networks. The study concludes that the temporal convergence of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr is not merely a religious calendar phenomenon but also a communication phenomenon that creates opportunities for dialogue, meaning negotiation, and the strengthening of tolerance and social cohesion within a multireligious society.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a model of empathetic interpersonal communication strategies in inclusive education for children with special needs at the Gianyar State Special Education School. The study was motivated by the complexity of communication interactions between teachers and students who exhibit diverse cognitive, emotional, social, and sensory characteristics, such that an instructional approach to communication has not been able to holistically meet their learning needs. The study employed a qualitative approach using the case study method to explore communication practices in a natural context. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers as the primary informants, and documentation. Data analysis utilized an interactive model involving the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and the derivation and verification of conclusions. The research findings indicate that empathetic interpersonal communication strategies are built through three main, mutually integrated dimensions: the affective, adaptive, and reflective dimensions. The affective dimension emphasizes teachers’ ability to build emotional closeness and empathy toward students. The adaptive dimension reflects teachers’ flexibility in adjusting their communication styles, media, and delivery methods to meet students’ needs. The reflective dimension emphasizes continuous evaluation of communication practices as an effort to enhance pedagogical professionalism. This study also found that the integration of local wisdom values, particularly the concept of Tat Tvam Asi, strengthens communication practices that are humanistic, inclusive, and oriented toward respect for diversity. Based on these findings, the study developed a conceptual model of empathetic interpersonal communication strategies that is integrative, contextual, and practical. This model contributes to the development of research on inclusive educational communication and can serve as a guideline for teachers and stakeholders in designing more effective, responsive, and equitable learning communication.
